Has anyone done a euro camp holiday?

Got two young kids 2 and 5.

Cost looks amazing

Has anyone been on such a trip? Where did you go?

I haven't but my brother did one in France and a mate did one on one of the Italian Lakes. Both loved them. Never heard anything other than positive things about them.

Used to go every year as a kid. Great fun. Started of in Brittany and each year we went further South. Last time we went was St. Tropez.

Eurocamp has been in business for decades. I remember going to the south of France and to Brittany with them. Apart from staying in a static caravan, which feels like a microwave in high temperatures, I seem to recall I enjoyed it.

That is my concern I think you can get air conditioned accommodation. Just need to know how good the aircon is.

Stayed in a static caravan at Duinrell with eurocamp which had a theme park attached which you got free access to. The best bit was the ferry home.

Yep, stayed at a couple of different ones in Italy, and both were great. We actually did them through Sun £9.50 hols and were well worth the value!!

I worked for them for two years in France in 2013/14 having been on the holidays as a kid. Loved the holidays and loved the job.

First season I was at La Chapelle in Argeles-sur-Mer in Languedoc, quite a touristy town but it's a very nice area of Catalan France near the Spanish border, not far from the picturesque Collioure and the mountains, loads to do for the kids. The second year I was at Club Farret at Vias-Plage, smaller place but with a fantastic beach and there's a little theme park close by, you can do day trips to cities like Montpellier and Nimes which are both lovely.

The mobile homes had very good aircon and many of the older units will have been upgraded since I went. Bigger sites have the kids clubs, there was one on my first site and the girls were amazing with the kids. People often do a couple of different sites or countries in one holiday, gives you a bit of variety.

Yep I’ve been to La Croix de Vieux Pont at Berny Rivière 4 times in the last six years.

I would recommend staying in a deckhouse lodge which is much better than a caravan and has everything you would need.

Drive up, grab a beer and wine and fire up the bbq. What could be better! Stick the kids in kids club and loads to do. Handy for Disneyland Paris too.

Used to go with our kids to Eurocamp sites in France and Italy and had nothing but good times. There were always fans in the units, and you could always ask for more if needed.

I haven’t been on one but my sister has worked on one and i went to see her once .

Have to say I was very impressed.

Facilities for kids v good and opportunity for them to meet other kids from different countries etc.

I’m glad this thread got started, it’s kickstarted my plans for 2025!!
Using prices for 2024, I found a jet2 package (1 week, but we’ll prob do 2, 4adults 2 kids) for £3500 to Lake Garda - but if I book flights and site separately it’s £2000!! I’d be hiring a people carrier anyway, so I’d be saving £1500 for the airport transfers 😮

Is eurocamp only good if you've got kids?

Me and my wife were thinking of doing one in Northern France to see all the WW1/2 stuff around there.

Its so ** cheap!

I’ve been to a couple of Sandaya sites in France, these are similar and have loads of options with accommodation. Depending on where you want to go there maybe options there

if you are worried about excessive heat in the South of France, why not consider the French Atlantic coast? The weather should be a bit cooler there. We had a very enjoyable trip to a campsite near Royan when our children were small, very relaxing. It was with one of Eurocamp's rivals but the setup was the same.

Did a few when the kids were younger - The Atlantic coast ( Vendee) is great. Usually a bit better weather than Normandy & North Brittany. Stay close by to the village of St Jean de Monts which is a a fab for non beach days etc ( great daily market too) & you are close to coastal landmarks.
We have also booked a campsite direct, and one of our favourites was at at Trinite sur mer - very close to Carnac. You can find them on FB or on the web -check out Camping de la Plage à la Trinité sur Mer- Fantastic area for kids and big kids too!

We did two Eurocamp holidays when the kids were younger.

One in the south of France

and one in Spain.

Just a couple of observations.

Get a caravan with air con - just in case. It makes a big difference

The parks were good - but they are generally a bit isolated so we ended up hiring a car both times. The one in the south of France opened up trips down the Cote D 'Azure and where we bumped into Davina McCall and her child whilst on a carousel it St. Raphael - I don't think she was staying in the Eurocamp mind!

At the time, the takeaway from the Spanish one was paella and it was delicious.

And they were genuinely international - loads of different European nationalities were there and mingled due to kids not caring where someone is from if they are playing together.

Honestly, if you don't mind them being what they are - it's a more affordable way for a family to go abroad and have a great break together.

We also did aparthotels a couple of times too - which is a compromise from a hotel, but inside a proper building - cheaper than a hotel, but more expensive than a caravan.

Enjoy yourself.

Ideal for poorer people who are looking for a cheap and cheerful.
I’ll bite.
utter bollux. We’ve been on 3 Euro camps, Brittany, Sarlat and near La Rochelle. 3kids and they all loved every minute.
Always loads to do and things to see and France is an amazing country with fabulous history, castles with big guns, big rivers that they can fish, swim or canoe on and fantastic beaches to make sandcastles etc. We even visited the seat of man in the Dordogne. The place has everything. Great restaurants barbecues take aways food markets………..it’s BRILLIANT.
We‘ve been on packaged beach/hotel holidays all over Europe and to Orlando. We’ve done 5 star all inclusive in Corfu and Turkey and I would honestly say that Static caravans and what they offer in terms of entertainment and activities for families within the sites and close by are brilliant.

So a static caravan is a holiday were your misses has the same routine as she does at home eg: cooking, making beds, washing up etc. When you said "utter bollux" are you talking about what keeps your ears apart?

Not everyone’s misses has that routine anymore - welcome to 2023 👍

After 48 yrs of marriage, i don't need anyone to tell me about routine now run along and get your other halves tea on.
ps: don't forget to peg your washing out across the street as it's ideal drying weather 👍

I think you’ve got me confused with someone else 👍

Never heard of it but just had a gander and they look great and very reasonable. Wish I'd known about this 7/8 years ago when the kids were younger.

Not all of us like the same things… Personally I hate staying in hotels and prefer self catering. In fact, if given a choice I’d probably choose a tent as my preferred accommodation …

We tend to share any cooking etc.. if we go self-catering …

Did Eurocamps a good few years ago when my kids were small and thoroughly enjoyed it.👍👍

Have a look at Houlgate, nice place and really close to the WW2 stuff. You get a lot of people without kids on the smaller sites that don't have kids clubs etc.

What sort of holiday is it were people cook their own breakfasts and then have to wash up before going out. Tight wads.
Sorry, but that’s a shitty, insensitive post in a time when most people are struggling, if not on their arses.
Not to mention that most parents are quite happy to wash some pots if it means being able to take their kids to a holiday park that has tons of stuff to do all day.
Personally, my family are already looking at doing a similar camp at Lake Garda in 2025, at the same camp I spent most of my holidays as a kid. Taking my dad, my siblings, our kids and grandkids - 18 of us in total, can’t wait! And we’re a Layton family, so not quite Grange Park.
And I’m surprised at you, Matesrates, can’t believe you liked that comment??

I think Kavalas posts are obviously in the extreme but only did one camp whatever in France with the kids. Hated it, seemed like we were in the middle of nowhere, French entertainment was dire. Don't mind self catering at all, anywhere other than France.

So you went one place in France and would never go again 😭

A lot of us don’t really go for fried food every morning, so breakfast would consist of something more like yoghurt, granola etc… Many of these places have an on-site restaurant if you’re desperate for some stodge 👍

Washing up takes about 2-3 minutes …

You can cook outdoors in the evening, whilst enjoying a nice glass of vino in the open air, whilst the kids are playing …. There’s nothing better…

Of course you can always go crazy and snd stay in a hotel, get waited on hand and foot and pretend you’re someone for a week…

Been to Paris & as part of a cruise used the splendid train service for Nice, Monaco & Cannes. Anything north doesn't do it for me. Spain, Greece, Italy all have a culture I want to visit & embrace. Sod France, it was all educated Uni types that looked down at the Costa's.

Well I'm off to Cornwall for a week in a cottage where I will embrace cooking brekkie every day and washing up and then going out during the day with the dog. Then going out to eat at night. And not a shitty hotel food meal in sight. Might even cook tea some days too.

I love this thread.

With 3 kids who are about 6 years apart in total I've:

Camped in a tent in the UK more than once.
Owned a static caravan in Cumbria for 10 years.
Stayed in Europarcs (and Euro Disney!)
Stayed in Apartotels.
Stayed at my in-laws house in France.
Stayed in loads of hotels around various parts of the world in beach and city breaks.
Hired cars and used public transport.

I've done self catering, all inclusive, eaten in locally owned restaurants and gone for the cheap and cheerful Big Mac too.

And I've loved almost every moment of every one of them.

We have been blessed to be able to give them a really broad range of experiences and it's fantastic to see my eldest son visiting Barcelona last month and Paris next week whilst my middle one is currently out in Magaluf (who is coincidentally going to be able to see her maternal granddad because he is on holiday nearby Palma something or other).

Take them anywhere and spend as much time as possible together - it's just the best thing.

And one last thing, no matter where I've travelled, nowhere has ever given me a sunset which can match the Gold Coast 🧡PSX_20230908_191347.jpg

I took my kids to Spain, Turkey, Gran Canaria in hotels when they were little, and camping in the lakes, and in many cottages in the dales.
Yet my youngest best memory is when we got stuck in a ditch in the snow going to Beacon Fell, ( a foolish decision on my part to go there in that weather but I can be lacking in common sense).
Anyway, her best pal who I took with us said ‘ this is the best day of my life ever’ as we captured a farmer and his tractor for help.
Memories are rarely about the money.

Just remind me again how many people stay in hotels in Blackpool during the Summer season. I doubt very much that they are pretending to be somebody.

Classic example of you get what you pay for.

Be more daring and break into a £10 note.

Apologies for any confusion, I was referring specifically to you, as opposed to normal people 👍
Would you like a freebie in our holiday home. It would be right up your street as it has a lovely kitchen area (which we never use apart from a brew first thing in the morning)

Some of my happiest memories are of my Mum and Step Dad taking me camping in Dent when I was still at school. Raining and playing Yahtzee in the tent. Going to the Sun Inn or George & Dragon with them till late and feeling really grown up. Loved it and priceless memories which I will thank them for till the day I die.

Priorities ducky. A holiday should be on the back burner if you really can't afford to take one
