Have we ever had a memorable League Cup run?

Was it the 4th round we got to under Grayson? Spurs away, their managers’ (Ramos?) first game and remember it being a decent game, could have even been a replay. Pretty sure our coach broke down on the way home and we had to wait for a replacement.

I don’t remember us getting further than that in my lifetime.
 
Maybe this will be the season when we have a long run in it. I love this cup. Best thing they ever did with it was stop the 2 legs.

Fess, as an 8 year old (1968/69), I had been to the home ties against Wrexham, Man City and Wolves. I was full of hope when we played Arsenal, only to find out the morning after, that we'd been stuffed 5-1.

66 , I went to the Arsenal game and despite the scoreline we played pretty well and Tony Green scored a blinder. The following season we knocked them out of the FA Cup.

And I was most certainly at that one! I remember getting Arsenal away in the draw and thinking we'd get another stuffing. However, 1-1 (Hutchison?) so back to Bloomfield Rd. What a great night!

Probably my greatest regret as a Pool fan was missing that Arsenal replay. I was working in Edinburgh and couldn't get away.

1968/69 beat Wolves 2-1. Could be wrong but was the winner scored by Tony Marsden ? He was a centre forward who played for the reserves for the vast majority of his 2 year spell at the club.

Yes we did, we got the R4 with Spurs and it was on Halloween 2007!

mid to late 60s.
Man U Bloomfield Rd. 5-1
Chelsea Home ,draw .Replay Stamford Br. 1-3 (I think)
West Ham Home Lost ,forget the score
 
Think the Spurs game in 2007 was the 4th Round. Cant remember who we beat to get that far. Robbie Keane for Spurs made the difference that night, he definitely got one, a chip over our keeper and might have scored another as well, can't remember.

One of my first games was against Arsenal in 1976, League Cup. 2nd Round, pissed it down. I think it took them two replays to knock us out, both at Highbury.
 
I can still remember Blackpool playing in their first and only League Cup semi final in the 1961/62 season. Pool lost 4-1 away at Norwich in the 1st leg but staged a tremendous display of attacking football in the 2nd leg at Bloomfield Road and were totally in command and leading 2-0 when one of worst refereeing decisions in the history of BFC took place. Blackpool’s pressure eventually paid off when they scored a 3rd goal in the last few minutes to make the aggregate score 4-4. The referee gave the goal and then his attention was drawn by the Norwich goalkeeper to a large hole in the side netting of the goal. The referee reversed his decision and gave a goal kick. The Blackpool players protested and whole of Bloomfield Road erupted. The Pool fans were shocked in disbelief when the final whistle was blown and we had lost 4-3 on aggregate. I was stood on the Kop that night, very near the front and just to the side of the goal where this goal was scored, by Ray Parry I think, and to this very day I still swear it was a perfectly good goal. I can vividly remember the Norwich goalkeeper pulling the side netting of the goal as the players walked back to the centre circle for the kick off. A petition was organised and I remember going to the BFC Supporters Club to sign it, there were 100s of signatures on the Petition from Pool supporters who were at the match. This Petition was delivered to the Football League offices in St Anne’s but nothing was done. Norwich went on to win the League Cup 4-0 on aggregate against Rochdale in a two legged Final. If only we had VAR, goal line technology and replays.

I was in the west paddock level with the pen area and it was clearly a goal...robbed!

Remember the League Cup game against Arsenal, as you say it was absolutely chucking it down and it was rammed in the Scratching Shed. Seem to recall Malcolm McDonald, Liam Brady?, David O'Leary and Pat Jennings playing for Arsenal.
 
I can remember a couple of 2 leg victories over the Sheffield clubs in the 80's/early 90's. Getting beat by Coventry at Highfield road with a shocking penalty decision and a penalty shoot out win over City at Maine Road, which was on Sky.

1-1 I think. Did they score from a corner and we equalised through Micky Walsh. Only game I ever went to with my dad.
 
Was it third or fourth round when we went to Tranmere, around 1990?

Took loads to it and did the usual thing of the time, big turnout poor performance.
 
I remember the return leg at Chelsea 97/98?,they had a 4-1 lead from the first game and came strutting out of the tunnel like they only had to go through the motions to beat us. We ended up giving the cocky buggers one hell of a scare winning 3-1 on the night and narrowly going out 5-4 on agg. Showed the potential that particular side had.

3rd. Beat Sheff Wednesday in the previous round. I went to both. Your right, thousands at Tranmere and we were shite.

Was just as they were beginning their transition into being a big club, I think the likes of Vialli and a few other top players had started playing for them around that time.
 
Beat Newcastle Utd away Lg Cup Oct 1972 3-0. Scorers were Stuart Parker, Frank Barton, Alan Suddick.

Yes. Frank LeBoeuf at centre half, Vialli and Speedie up front?

Gullit was there as well.

We murdered them. I had a bet on and cleaned up. Ellis to score first and Blackpool to win. Something like 50/1.
 
Blackpool v Chelsea lg cup 1966/67 the Osgood broken leg game . Tackled by Emlyn Hughes.Crowd gasped in horror as the bone cracking could be clearly heard. Game finished 1-1. Pool won replay 3-1.

Remember that game at Bloomfield Road very well, it was a 50/50 ball and neither player gave an inch. Hughes rubbed his shin and got up on his feet and despite limping he completed the match. The Chelsea team were out for revenge in the replay, Emlyn Hughes was not expected to be in the Pool team but Hughes insisted he wanted to play and had a tremendous match and didn’t shirk a tackle or a challenge. Bill Shankly was apparently very impressed and shortly afterwards Liverpool signed Hughes and paid Blackpool a British record transfer fee for a teenager.
