Hayden Coulson signs on loan

I can't see it being down to budget. In theory the 2 NC has now would probably be in and around the cost of a decent No 2.

More likely NC has stated he doesn't need a No 2 as he's learnt so much since his first spell or even he'd only sign if he had NO no 2.

Too late for an exp. No 2 now. It wouldn't work.
We can only make assumptions here. Agree with your last sentence, though.

I’ve been thinking about how NC does seem to still have a better success rate here though. Hopefully we can improve this away form. Yesterday showed that the players have the ability.

Might this be a loan with view to permanent move. Does not sound like he has a future at Boro. Lyons looked nothing special at Forest. No attacking threat and average defensively

Ffs you’re back are you.
I thought the same 🤣

Have to say this boro comment made me chuckle

If you have bought him for his defensive qualities then you will be very disappointed.

If, on the other hand, you have bought him as an attacking fullback, you will be equally disappointed.

Fair few saying player in there and give him game time.. so let's see.

It'll be interesting to see how he's used and how quickly he gets upto speed, if he'll relieve some pressure on other players given the various cups we're still in etc.

As for some pre judgements, we saw instant judgements last window and many of those were wrong.

Some weren't happy with Rhodes and thought he wouldn't score many.

Infact our success rate seemed decent in summer so I'll trust the recruitment team again.

Because one is a right footed central midfielder and the other is a left back?
One is a left sided fullback or defensive midfielder, the other (Kenny) is a defensive centre midfielder. Which foot they kick with won't concern NC.
We'll have to see who is leaving - could be Kenny, could be Owen (both of who are better than the incoming lonee ... in my humble opinion).

Looks like a bench warmer to me. Under 6 ft too which means he is no height cover at the back. We’ll have to see where he fits.

Let it go! 😉

Nor would I say promotion was all Critchley's own work. Calderwood's input was immeasurable...as was McCall's during our 'stable' period.
Currently a very good home record and a pitiful away record.
Agree away form is disappointing, and needs to change if we are to get near a play-off spot.
Are Calderwood and McCall are responsible for our home record this season?

Critchley is responsible for both our home and away records and for where we finish in the league this season.

Critch says he sees him as a wing back ...

"He’s someone who I’ve seen since his U18s days at Middlesbrough, he was in a very good team there and played in the UEFA youth league. I came up against them during my time with Liverpool.

"He’s had different loans out in the football league, and has been in the Scottish Premier League. He’s got real quality on the left side, and has really good endurance. I think he’ll give us real quality. I see him as a wing-back, he can open up the pitch for you. We’re hoping he can bring some balance.

"He’s really good on the ball and makes good decisions. He’s got ability in his left foot which we believe will provide us with a different dimension in the second half of the season.

"We’ll see what happens with other players in that position. Any time you bring someone in, the likelihood of others departing increases. If players are unhappy with playing time then that’s a conversation we will have. If we can’t offer regular game time, and someone else can, then if it’s right for both clubs we’ll discuss it.

"The competition allows us to pick different players for different games, and different parts of games- which is important.

"We’re still looking elsewhere this window, but that may depend on what happens internally. We’re always keen to provide an environment where we coach our players to improve- no matter what age they are.”

Coulson could be in line to make his Seasiders debut in the EFL Trophy tie against Burton Albion on Wednesday evening (K.O. 7pm).

"He is eligible to play,” Critchley added.

"He’s a good age and had plenty of exposure at Aberdeen last season. It’d be foolish to think he’s going to play every minute of every game, but hopefully he stays on the pitch and he’s fit enough to make a big contribution for us.”

"He’s not played loads of football so it’s something we need to take in consideration. He came off the bench for Middlesbrough against Aston Villa in the FA Cup. He’s been training every day.
