Helter-skelter roundabout send off?

How the hell did a car manage to take out the helter skelter sculpture !!??

This was a few years ago.
So presumably the council was remunerated via the drivers insurance?
That sculpture costs tens of thousands!

The driver had nicked the car, & killed himself as he hit the roundabout chased by plod at around 90mph I seem to recall... Nearly killed an innocent car driver on the other side of the roundabout.... Tradgic all round
 
I guess Blackpool Council had it insured? Or I understand a lot of councils self insure? Assume damaged beyond repair. Originally I thought what a waste of money, but eventually fell for its unique, Blackpoolness.....
 
The car insurance (not the driver’s or the owner’s) would have paid for a replacement statue

perhaps the Marty and Sir Jimmy one’s can be sent down there or we do wooden cut out of previous play off heroes

I'd be surprised if the cars insurance would pay, as it was either stolen or being used outside of the terms & conditions ie driver speeding away from police?

well I had my car smashed by a 7 times banned taxi driver (all bans running !) - this was before a change in the law (re taxi firm owners and their drivers) - my neighbour kindly informed of the accident which the driver denied (I was n holiday)

I discussed with the police and they contacted a special part of the insurance system which pays out for uninsured drivers / & or vehicles (he had an uninsured hire car !!) - works like a special reserve fund for losses for innocent victims / loses

anyway it got settled, cost me nothing, and I barely involved my insurer’s - I did though have to sign a legal document saying I would give evidence against the driver if ever caught - needless to say I never heard another thing

I did have a frank exchange with the taxi firm to outline what adverts I would put out regarding their service, unless they did proper checks on their drivers (now law) - I also never used them again and did put up a sign on their wall (they never noticed it for a couple of days) saying if you use this firm you are possibly in an uninsured vehicle &/or you driver might not be allowed to drive !
 
I wonder if we can expect any banners from PKE fans on the M55?

Maybe we should "take" the bridges (with apologies to Torycorner for "borrowing" his inverted comma's).
 
I emailed the council many times about the Helter Skelter statue years ago.

Asking when it was going to be replaced as it belonged to the residents of the town, never even got a reply.

Typical response from our councils over the years.

Take it up with the MP? I work for a council, & I would be on thin ice ignoring requests from the great unwashed... 😊
 
Sounds a great idea, I'd love to do it if I can. But aren't the club just waiting to hear from AVF when they should be setting off?

If you remember, when they built the M55, they had a Jaguar from Bae land and take off from the stretch between Weeton and junction 4. Just stop traffic briefly while planes take off and land.
