Homophobic chanting

Couple of things about this story.
1. Have I missed something? Any reason why both of these players were subject to this
2. Why can't football fans grow up and realise what utter cockwombles they sound in 2021 singing homophobic chants? Personally I'd give each of them 10 year bans until they mature enough to attend games.

Liverpool have condemned alleged homophobic chanting aimed at Norwich's on-loan midfielder Billy Gilmour at Carrow Road on Saturday.
The Scotland international and Chelsea loanee, 20, was allegedly targeted by some fans during the Reds' 3-0 win.
Liverpool said the chant was "offensive and inappropriate".
"We urge supporters to remember the inclusive values of the club and to refrain from using it in the future," the club added.
It came after Kop Outs, Liverpool's LGBT+ fans group, highlighted the chanting aimed at Gilmour.
"Great result today marred by homophobic chanting by some of our fans targeting Chelsea loanee Billy Gilmour," the group said on social media.
"If you can't support without resorting to bigoted nonsense, you don't understand YNWA [You'll Never Walk Alone]."
Derby have also condemned their own fans after alleged racist comments were made towards the Rams' Polish winger Kamil Jozwiak, as well as alleged homophobic slurs towards a Peterborough player, during the Posh's 2-1 Championship win on Saturday.

Every club has its pond life. They are more abundant in the cities.

I didn’t say that, but I think if those of us of a certain age are honest looking back most of us have taken part in some unsavoury chanting at some point, that said I do think this particular chant is one of the tamer ones.
It may very well be one of the more tame chants in that regard... but I'd leave that for the people (not "groups") who it's aimed at to decide what is more or less offensive

but hey ive heard plenty on here calling fat (obese) people names but nobody seems bothered about that not saying its right homophobic chants or racist chants but just saying that all derogative chants are WRONG!!!!!! but its football and it will always happen sexist taunts to women linnesmen refs and physios get yer tits out for the lads is another one again nobody says anything about that but its not right is it..
how many people on here have chanted you black barsteward at a ref or the referees a w@nker i'll but 95 percent of the fans over 50 have

lights blue touch paper and ducks

I would imagine that the chants were actually aimed at a group - Chelsea Football Club - and not Billy Gilmour.

I would also imagine that Billy Gilmour couldn't give a Donald Duck.
Yep I’d agree , I don’t think there’s many footballers that get offended by fans chants, I’m sure most just laugh it off, either that or ( not in this case😁) it inspires them to go on and bag, I mean who can forget Jason lee at Watford that day😃

You're missing the point entirely... if it's homophobic chanting it doesn't matter who it's aimed at. It's the effect it can have on anyone who hears it. It's no better than racist chanting. You wouldn't chant racist bile if you were sat next to a black guy at the match... and I'd hope you wouldn't chant homophobic abuse if you knew the guy next to you was gay.

It was you who told us that we should leave it for the people - and not groups - that the chant was aimed at to decide whether a chant was offensive.

I merely stated that in my opinion, yesterdays chants were aimed at Chelsea Football Club - albeit via Billy Gilmour.

I also stated that I was of the opinion that Billy Gilmour couldn't care less about the chants.

You appear now to have changed your opinion on the matter and have now decided that if it's homophobic chanting then it doesn't matter who it's aimed at.

Please don't get me wrong, I don't have any problem with you changing your opinion but my original reply was made in response to you telling us that it was up to the people - and not groups - that chants are aimed at to decide whether or not it was offensive.

I'm not missing any point.

I've not changed my stance or opinion one bit

If it's a homophobic chant it's aimed at gay people in general (you just didn't get that first time round... hence missing the point). It doesn't matter if it's "aimed" at a "group" as you say in terms of a whole club or weather or not the individual concerned is "bothered" by it... just like if it was a racist chant say against Sterling it wouldn't just be offensive to him but all black people.

But it's ok... you keep dragging your knuckles.

I'm not dragging any knuckles and you shouldn't get away with making such a ridiculous comment.

I have already explained myself perfectly clearly but will give you the benefit of the doubt and do so again.

YOU decided to tell us that it was up to the person the chants - and NOT groups - were aimed at to decide whether the chants were offensive.

I merely responded to what you said by stating that I was of the opinion that yesterdays chants were aimed at Chelsea Football Club - albeit via Billy Gilmour.

I also stated that I was of the opinion that Billy Gilmour couldn't care less about the chants.

You then decided to tell me how the chants were offensive to different groups and that they were as bad as racist chants.

I just said that you had appeared to have changed your opinion on matters but I also said in a polite manner that I had no problem with that.

Now perhaps you will be as kind to review your comment to me that I should keep dragging my knuckles.

Thank you

That chant has been around for years, don’t think it is specifically aimed at Billy Gilmour, more the team he’s on loan from. Really don’t know why thses groups get their underwear in a twist over football chants.
Will have to remember that when a victim of homophobia complains. It's just a chant at a football match so it's ok. Maybe we should extend the chants to ethnicity cos it's ok at a football match.
Serious question, do you live in a cave ?

I would imagine it’s hard to prove that mocking someone for being a rent boy is specifically homophobic as opposed to mocking them for selling their body for sexual services.

I'm fairly sure that the Chelsea rent thingy chant is chanted by a number of clubs when the play Chelsea. Nothing new here to look at.

The “rent thingy”?

There is quite clearly something new to look at due to the fact that some sections of society are not ** having it are they. It’s 2021 by the way and things have changed or are changing ....... please keep up.

Does changing a chant like this take anything away from going to watch football? No it doesn’t.
I’ve always found chants of ‘I’d rather have a tower than a mosque’ and ‘Just a town full of Pakis’ embarrassing when we’ve played Preston, hopefully they won’t be resurrected now it’s 2021. Football chants that are funny/cutting don’t need to be homophobic or racist in this day and age.

Is singing you’re only here to frequent the drinking establishments around the Dickson Road and Blackpool North area still allowed or would that be deemed offensive??

Do we think Billy Gilmour was offended?

I have been told that I have had a post deleted from this thread.

I am unable to respond to the message.

I have posting nothing against any rules and my only crime is that the moderator is unable to accept non abhorrent views that differ from his own.

Why should other posters have to suffer because of the moderators intolerance ?

So dramatic 😄

Very funny.

Please just tell me exactly what is wrong with my response to the moderator or how any of my posts have broken any rules rather than your rather lazy response.

GTF gives me completely unjustified personal abuse - knuckle dragger - and his post is allowed to stay up despite me politely asking him to explain himself yet I have a post deleted.

The post I had deleted was very polite and was a simple request for GTF to justify his abuse of me or to remove it.

I don't know if GTF called me a knuckle dragger for questioning whether or not Billy Gilmour was offended by the chants but I hope that nobody is allowed to give you the same abuse for doing the same.

It's the kind of thing you would call a racist or a homophobe. Seems reasonable to me.

Afternoon Tom

I hope you are enjoying posting on the forum, always good to have new members.

You are not allowed to make posts like your latest one on this thread.

You are calling me a racist and a homophobe with no justification for doing so.

Please amend your post or delete it.

Of course you could perhaps choose to provide evidence to support your post if you so wish.

GTF

Why have you chosen to call me a "knuckle dragger" on a public forum ?

I have said that I am of the opinion that the chants were directed at Chelsea Football Club.

I also said that I am of the opinion that Billy Gilmour wouldn't be bothered about the posts.

I have no problem if you disagree with either of these opinions but you shouldn't call me a "knuckle dragger" with no justification for doing so.

I am offended by your post and would like to ask you again to kindly amend or delete your post or provide evidence to justify your slur on my character.

Thank you

What’s your point?

Gary

Sorry about that.

I was trying to attract GTF's attraction and he had "liked" your original post.

I have no problem with you or the post that you made on this thread and I apologise for involving you unnecessarily.

In the 80’s I went quite often to watch St. Pauli in Germany, not my local club but, was drawn to them, like many, because diversity wasn’t just accepted, it was celebrated.
Hoping to take in one of their games when I get around to visiting Hamburg known for radical ,left wing support

Blimey, you're literally like the first person ever to have a post deleted.

Mine are usually for some bad language to be fair, which is bang out of ** order.

I called you a knuckle dragger because you're defending homophobic chants.

GTF

I am not defending homophobic chants.

I said that I was of the opinion that the chants were aimed at Chelsea Football Club - albeit via Billy Gilmour - and I am certainly not alone in holding such an opinion.

You might hold a different opinion to mine and I don't have any problem with that but my opinion is certainly not an abhorrent one.

I also said that I was of the opinion that Billy Gilmour wouldn't be bothered about the chants, you might disagree with my opinion and I have no problem with that and I fully appreciate that it's perfectly possible that Billy Gilmour was deeply offended by the chants but again my opinion was not an abhorrent one.

You should not be allowed to call me a "knuckle dragger".

I politely asked you to review my comments on the thread and to amend or delete your post appropriately but if you are not willing to do so then there is not much I can do about it because it is clear that the moderator is happy for people to abuse me without justification.

I'd still prefer you deleted your "Knuckle dragger" comment but fair enough.

Lytham

I know you are saying it's just a football forum etc, etc.

There was nothing wrong with my post and it was deleted because of who I am and not because of its content.

The moderator told me that my post had been deleted and that I had been warned about my posting style, I am not afforded the right to reply to him.

The forum is being moderated by personality and not content.

Posters can make frivolous accusations against other posters because the moderator doesn't happen to like certain posters.

Everybody knows what's happening and some can choose to ignore it if they so wish.

The chants were homophobic. You're defending them, regardless of who is or isn't offended by them. Everything else is an after thought.

erm…

** hell.
why not put the full post in instead of snipping it so it looks different

dont try to twist things for your own agenda
everyone can see it is not a racist comment when they read the full post
