How does our spend on squad costs compare?

It seems to me that it is only transfer fees? Which is a pretty good indicator, but wage bills would give a complete picture. Out of contract players get signed without fees on big wages.

I think our current squad has likely cost more than £1.4m in fees? But not loads more.

Isn't that based on the last set of accounts so in our case effectively meaningless?

It is based on the latest published accounts, but not totally meaningless - it's a direct comparison between clubs at a point in time.

No doubt Kieran Maguire will do another comparison when the new accounts are available. Will it show us higher up the spending table? We'll have to wait and see.

I think it includes wages as well, from this extract:

"Data published by Price of Football's Kieran Maguire documents the total spend by all 24 clubs on their playing staff judged from the latest published accounts."

I'll have a look to see if I can find what Kieran actually said.

Yep this is why its daft, now every article is referencing this 'expert' who yes is posting with the most up-to-date information but with no context and not comparing like for like.

For eg, Gabriel signed in aug for what 5-600k.

Hes not in there neither will any others be who signed after the accounts went upto.

It's not necessarily bad for us, as appears to show we are doing very well with very modest investment.

But the reality is we'll be a lot more competitive than that.

But there's no denying a large proportion of the squad were from league one and we have indeed got some good bargains spotted some gems and should continue to do so.

His point was that we were a L1 outfit at the time those accounts were prepared, so a comparison to Championship clubs is meaningless.

I'm struggling to believe our total annual spend on fees and wages has been as low as 1.4m for a good while? Pre-Sadler certainly and probably a lot longer.
