How far behind the Nobbers are we?

I would say 2 seasons in line with Simon's master plan......but I think it's more likely we will meet up back in the Championship.
I cant see the knobbers getting relegated (even if Neil does run away next season) but I can see their gates dropping even further next season.
You have to be a real masochist to put up with turgid football and failure every season.......for the last 140 years

They have a decent squad, not a special one tbh.
One of their more consistent performers has been Tom Barkhuisen (sp) who's always been a handful at Elland Road.
The key I think to success in the CS is stability and youth, rather than throw too much money at it for the sake of it.

West Brom ditched moneybags Dwight Gayle for this season and seemed to have improved.....

Looking at both our current squads, quite a way behind to be totally honest.

Realistically probably at least 4 seasons away, promotion within 2, first season would be a bonus, 1 to consolidate in the Championship, then hopefully kick on from there over the next couple of seasons.

In Simon and Neil we trust.

Come on lads.

the rabble have stuffed it - again !!!
Theyre getting relegated next season and the pool are going up !!!!

cream always rises to the top .
Enjoy tonite lads 😂😂😂😂😂

can’t someone resurrect Wallace’s left boot

Comparing this year's squads we are behind. But looking to next year, we are going to massively improve with better scouting, better loans and better management.

PKE, on the other hand are going to decline. How sick must Hemmings be of pouring money into a team of permanent bottlers? They'll be in the lower half of the Championship next year, and we'll get promoted to it.

Then, (paraphrasing Conan), we will crush our enemies, see them driven before us, and hear the lamentations of their women.

How's that for positive thinking?

Bet that smarts a bit giro - how many points did you blow since re-start I can’t remember.

it’s over - you’re going nowhere. Your futures behind you

Apparently key players Browne, Pearson, Davies, Johnson and Harrop all have less than a year left on their deals. I see troubles ahead for the Nobbers 😁

We've been a long way from challenging for the Championship play-offs. I'm hoping that's gonna change in the next couple of seasons.

I honestly think that this was Prestons last big push, they have run out of steam(see Fylde last season to this!) and they are going to struggle this coming season. They may be joining us in L1 or maybe swapping places😁

As my son said to me ....... BFC need to get above FTFC before PNE come anywhere near a target.
Footballs a funny thing, we may be on an equal football to PNE before we catch Fleetwood.

Tinted has it right, PNE are going to lose star players. Look at the points differential, Preston are only 6 points above 15th. It's doesn't take much to turn from having a chance of the play offs to struggling in the bottom half and not far from relegation.

There is every chance we could play them next in League one, although I think the championship is more likely.

What star players. 😂

We are a way off them yet. Whilst they are not the prettiest team on the eye, they play to their strengths and have some good Championship players. Having said that, if some of their better players are in their last season I'm sure they'll sell to bring some dough in, it seems that is what they usually do to limit the damage of their annual losses. Add to that a lot of their fans want AN, PR, TH out they could easily end up having a mad summer and find themselves dropping quickly.

I look at when they beat us in the League Cup Things were starting to change and it happened very quickly . Hopefully this might happen again but the other way. Its ok comparing squads but that can very quickly become a different picture.

Their best two players Pearson and Davies might go in the summer and if they don't reinvest they won't make a fist of it next year. IF we can get a strong squad together who win promotion and stick together next season then I see no reason why at the start of the 21/22 season we might be above them in the Championship (even if it's only for a short time).

There's a reason no top clubs look at Pearson, overrated cause he puts in a bad challenge every game so people speak about him...
Agree about his tackling.

Disagree about him as a player, won't grab the headlines for goals but wins the ball and keeps play moving. Every team needs one but these players usually go under the radar. The kind of player you realise what he does when he's not playing. I'd love him at our place.

Then again I was a big Sean gregan fan and he would have suited tangerine as well.

Going back to the OP - barring a miracle, we are one season behind them, potentially. It's a new start in the autumn, and some clubs will respond better to it than others.

HOWEVER...

I'd say we have been fairly pro-active so far in terms of recruitment (short and longer term). We have a new, well regarded manager who has had plenty of time to think and plan for what is coming next. If the financial paradigm that affects the sport shifts much post-COVID, I'd argue that a smallish club like ours, in a league full of similar clubs, can hardly be worse off than we are now.

PNE have had very little in the way of a break, and when they did come back clearly had lost most of the momentum that they had had before. I think their spending profile vis a vis turnover puts them in much the same place as much of the Championship - that is to say, a difficult one. They may come out of it OK, but I'd not risk much money on it. They remain a small fish in a pool full of much bigger ones.

So the gap may be closing quite a bit, and it's not just a linear question of time anyway. I'd like to think so, anyway. And let's not forget, PNE are not dead and buried yet, as far as this season goes.

Realistically 2-3 seasons provided we have continued investment in playing and coaching staff and also sort the training ground

There is no doubt that the Nobbers are due a bad season and if you go on PNEONLINE they are all forecasting it could come sooner than later.

Knowing our recent luck with the derby the season we go up, they'll come down and we'll avoid each other again.

Next season will be the 11th consecutive season we've been in separate divisions

Thankfully the last line of @basilrobbie's post is no longer valid 😁 "And let's not forget, PNE are not dead and buried yet, as far as this season goes." Not only dead and buried but rotting nicely in the ground.

We are a team on the up
They will struggle to be top half of Championship next season.
So I reckon 3 seasons we will be looking down on them.
Actually I look down on them now

The annoying thing about Hemmings is, he has made a lot of his money in Blackpool, but then sponsors our greatest rivals!

Not far enough this time of year - I wouldn't want to be behind any nobber at the end of season, its squeaky bum time for Peonie, they get edgy and bottle it and get loose bowels with the playoff nerves thing - it can get very messy being too close to them!

I always remember the Play Offs of 2001 when there was the real possibility that defeat for us against Leyton Orient and a win for the Nobbers against Bolton would have left us two leagues behind them. Strange to think that really since then we've only been 'ahead' of them for 3 seasons.
