How good is being in the Championship

I love being in this division. I hope we get to the PL again one day but only because of what the money might do for our infrastructure and in the hope we might be able to compete for a while. But the Championship is a great league to be part of. Still plenty of big clubs, historic teams (like us), big crowds, decent grounds, local derbies.

Honestly didn’t think we’d be back here so soon and this season has been awesome! UTMP

Absolutely agree. Apart from the infrastructural opportunities provided by the Greed League the Championship is a much more attractive and compelling alternative.

For me if we're an established Championship club who punch above their weight year after year and can aspire to maybe one day return to the Premier League then I'm a happy man. The Oyston era made me and I'm sure many others realise what can happen to your club when in the wrong hands, the Holloway era which just happened to coincide with this showed what can be achieved with a decent side spruced up with a few loan stars coupled with a terrific team spirit, and loudly backed by man for man the noisiest fans in the land. Thank the Lord for Simon Sadler, he's done so much at getting us where we are today and must be absolutely buzzing about the game today.

Who knows, it will take some shrewd dealing in the transfer market along with some young talent coming through, throw in a bit of luck and that PL return may well happen for SS, the man certainly deserves it.

And for that matter the fans do too.

We need to make the most of it because without the required major investment in the summer then we won't be in this division past another season.

Yet I am hearing from the odd fan that they have “lost the buzz”.
A poor run and they suddenly can’t be bothered.
Several hundred empty seats yesterday which are ST occupied.

Being a 'yo-yo' club like Norwich, Watford etc isn't ALL bad imo...although it must depress the fans of those two club's a bit! 😂. You're always either scrapping relegation or promotion though, so have always summat to play for! 🤷‍♂️You also get the big parachute payments from being relegated from the PL...which if used correctly will ensure you're always competing in the Championship. I've watched Burnley's stay in the PL with interest though, because I regard them as a similar club to ourselves in terms of history, size, potential, and finances. So it's with mixed feeling's I watch them sliding to almost certain relegation after their 6 year stay in the top flight this time😏. MASSIVE mistake getting rid of Dyche imo...and at the worst possible time! 🤷‍♂️

It’s a great division. By design it has a different winner each season so you can always go into it thinking you have a chance.

Regarding the yo-yo clubs, it must be odd being a fan of Fulham, Watford, Norwich etc. Would they really have that buzz each May when they get promoted as say Forest, Millwall or Luton fans could have this year?

Best league by a mile, prefer it to the Greed is Good League that the Prem has become. You are right, we have to have ambitions of the Prem for obvious reasons but I'd happily stay in this one for a good while longer yet.

I love the Championship as there really isn't much between many of the teams

Good grounds, decent followings and atmospheres

If it wasn't for our recent poor run 1 point from 12 we would be knocking on the play off door

Why ?

We havent exactly scraped through this season have we ?

We need some additions granted but dont need to spend a fortune

My favourite league too. Luton might go up this season with the league's 2nd smallest budget as we did in 2010. Anything can happen and hopefully they will abolish parachute payments and make it even more unpredictable in future.

The league table tells a lie.

There won’t be as many exceptionally poor teams every season as we have had this year. Derby and reading both deducted points and we have been awful for large parts of the season. There’s no doubt about it, most other years we would have been fighting for our lives around the relegation zone.

Yet we still managed to do better than the two teams who came up with us on automatic promotion

we have 56 points with 4 games to go - the average survival points needed since 1995/96 in the Championship has been 46 to 47 so irrespective of teams being deducted points how can you say we would have been fighting for our lives - utter bollx

The championship is a fantastic league but I reckon it is massively undersold by the EFL management. It really should be marketed much better than it is. It has to be one of the most competitve leagues in world football and let's not forget that it is also host to the richest game in world football. Lots of clubs with big support bases and big histories (both bigger than a lot of EPL clubs). The powers that be seem to just accept that the EPL takes the vast share of the football TV revenue pie and just be grateful for the leftovers. Of course the EPL should get more but the gap is ridiculous. They should promote the Championship much more than they are doing and get its true value in TV revenues, but heyho it is the EFL we are talking about!

Love being in the Championship but I hope our owner, manager and playing staff have the ambition to be where I want us to be. And that's in the Premier League.
Yep why wouldn't you want to be in the best league in the World

Couldn't agree more 👏

That’s just not correct .

I think we are at our natural level in the Championship. Which means the occasional spell int he top flight should be achievable…we could easily be a Norwich yo yo club or a Burnley that goes up and sticks around for a while. If we don’t aspire to be genuine Premier League aspirants then we are aiming too low.

But we don’t want to be like PNE knocking on the door of the Prem for years without making real progress.

both would of finished below us given the points back.

The sad reality is that there are 3 or 4 juggernauts in this country that are responsible for 95% of the outside interest in English football. Sky and BT are very reticent to ever publish viewing figures, but there have been a few leaked in the past. Games between teams outside the top 6 in the Prem get viewing figures in the 10s of thousands.

There is a reason Leeds were the live game from the Championship almost every week.

The Championship is testament to the depth of the English pyramid as the traditional home of football, and should be better regarded around the world (it has the 5th highest attendances in Europe) but as a 2nd tier competition without globally recognised teams, it just never will be I'm afraid.

Spoke to a Burnley mate this morning and he was saying how he couldn't wait to be back in the Championship last week, 4 points later and it's suddenly all about the Prem again. We can kid ourselves that we prefer the Championship but everyone wants to be in the Prem.

The start and Christmas/New Year. Considering we always seem to have a bad Christmas that's not too bad for the first season in the Championship

Honestly the only reason I'd want us in the prem would be to laugh at the nobbers.... again... Other than that it's a bit shit tbh. Saturday @ 3pm is sacred for me and in the prem lucky to have that too often! Can't plan anything as an away fan, bollocks!
