How good is Sonny??

Definitely got some skill and attacking intent and not frighten to shoot. Also taken some decent free kicks. Needs to beef up a bit to improve his resilience on 50:50 balls. NC is right to ease him in because he is young and it is a big leap straight from non-league, but I would expect him to get more game time over the next few months

Potentially very good but still some way to go.
I remember being very impressed with Fabian Delph whose career has stagnated and Dele Alli whose career is going down the toilet. The really good ones are those who constantly want to improve

In truth the answer to the o/p’s question is I don’t know. But on a positive note to step up from the league he was playing in, to Championship football & be able to have some influence on the game, speaks loudest. It’s too early to say if his progression will continue, as he learns & gains experience, which can be said of most young prospects. He’s started the right way though & seems to have the right tools to achieve much more. I’m watching this space with optimism.

I really like Carey and think he is going to be a top player for us. He has that composure on the ball and end product that makes a very good player standout from the pack. The goal yesterday showed this. He passed the ball into the net through a crowd of players. There are many discussions on here talking about the need to sign a playmaker but I think we already have one with Carey. I'd like to see him be given an extended run in the team but the formation does need to suit him. He seems to perform best in the 4-2-3-1. In summary, a really exciting talent...

He's very good. We need to avoid assuming he's going to be good all the time. He's young and learning.

We seem to lurch from player X being great to dreadful over a few games and whilst that's football fans, we need to give the kid patience. He won't score every week.

The problem is, he doesn't quite fit into either of Critch's preferred formations so for now, I think we'll see him start from time to time and do what he did yesterday, come on and exploit space late in the game.

There were inevitable groans of disappointment when he put that shot over the bar from a left wing cross, but if he'd got it right it would have been a belter.
He's got the technique, he's got the self-confidence (or the rawness of youth) to show it and have a go.
If we give him (and Critch) time and if he's patient, he's got a brilliant tangerine future.

In answer to the o/p - very good indeed. I think he's an intelligent footballer, a bit like GTF. In a team which does have problems with decision making, I think he often makes the right choice. Take the goal yesterday - a lot of players would have just put power behind it and hoped for the best, but that was a composed, well placed effort and it proved the right choice.
Anyone who was at the Middlesbrough cup game will have seen that he's got the lot. He can run with the ball, good first touch, a good shot, and has the vision and ability to play a perfectly weighted through ball.
It's a big step up for him, and we need to be patient because of that. It's no surprise that he has struggled a bit when he's started, but I don't think Critchley would be giving him chances in the first team so soon after a transfer from King's Lynn if he didn't rate him. And let's be honest, if anyone can recognise a good youngster it's our manager.

yep, it looked a bad miss but it was a half volley which he potentially caught too well so it flew over. A mis-hit could well have gone in.

This lad will be very good , will being the operative word , he is learning his trade & I think Critch will nurture him , when he has started he has not had very good games , so I think we have to show some patience , but undoubtedly the lad has talent.

He played very well when he started against Middlesborough and Sunderland in that Mickey Mouse cup and was outstanding against Reading. He was poor against Derby last week but there again so was everyone!

To be fair to him, he had stepped down to the Conference.

He is class, changed the game when he came on. A future superstar.
We should not get carried away. For a player who was playing non league 12 months ago he is doing fantastically well. However he is inconsistent still. Brilliant yesterday after being anonymous at Derby. Let’s be patient with him and I am sure the future is bright.

Loads of potential but as with a lot of young kids with a lot of potential, you don't know what your going to get off him. Some games he has been brilliant, some games he has been awful. Critch is using him right at the moment. In a couple out a couple, start some, sub in some.

I've always rated Sonny without any concrete evidence as to why. Sometimes you get a feeling in your bones about a player, and while I agree he needs to be introduced slowly and sensibly (Mr Critch take a bow) I just think he has something special. How many other of our attacking players would have passed the ball into that bottom right corner yesterday? That's what he will bring.

I wasn't at Derby, but from what I've read, he had a stiff neck from watching the ball flying over his head all game.

It's been a bit frustrating waiting for our attacking play to come together. The same as last season really. We huffed and puffed most of the season, never looked like blowing teams away.

But we have several young players who are getting their first experience at this level. Next season the likes of Carey, Yates, Lavery, Bowler and Anderson will have this experience behind them and in theory we should really benefit from that. Same applies at the back really with the likes of Gabriel, Marv and Grimshaw. We don't have very many pieces to find really, if these all keep improving.

I like that he's always looking to either shoot or play a killer pass, the sideways option is always a last resort for him.

If he hadn't been leaning back for that first chance I would have said fu*&$&g brilliant.
Seriously, hes so young and full of potential. According to the boss he also has confidence in his own ability at such a tender age.
I can't wait for what is to come
