How is it……

…… that all these other teams in our division keep bringing through academy players and we don’t. Indeed when was the last one we brought through? Ps every credit to goal scorer Scott Smith with his first senior goal and defender Charlie Hughes for them today who were excellent and both ex Wigan academy players 👍🏼

It's simple!!

We need a £20m training super hub academy. Until then.....well after it opens on the 1st June 20XX they'll all be in the first XI by August.

We’re only 5 years in to Sadlers tenure. Prior to that our Club was being run into the ground.

It takes time to develop an academy and system that produces talented players. Sone Clubs spend decades trying and still fail.
5 years is more than long enough to bring at least one player through mate. The academy is functioning, what else is needed apart from a football pitch and a coach?

Rob Apter came through the ranks, then he goes out on loan,in my opinion he is as good as we have.
For some reason we’re just not prepared to take a chance with our academy players. That can’t be good for morale or confidence. What’s more it’s not going to encourage young players or their families to choose us for their progression if they have other options.

And isn’t our esteemed manager renowned for bringing young players through 🤔🙄

Premier League clubs have a huge turnover of players that don't quite make the grade and they end up being picked up by sides in the EFL and become very good players at that lower level.

So it's not just the academy players we don't seem to be producing, its a severe lack of good recruitment of these ex Premier Academy players we are not getting close to signing and that's the most important area that needs addressing.

Is it buggery… It’s barely enough time to get the proper framework and foundations in place. The first couple of years Sadler has had to completely and literally in many cases rebuild the club … it was in a right state.

And technically we have already seen players who have developed or are ‘developing’ within the current system.

Apter is flying in L1… Casey has developed into a solid first Team Player…

What a load of bollux, the framework was already in place, just not the amount of staff /coaches to run each team and that to Simon’s credit was broached very quickly with everything else he had to sort.

We have been picking players up though … Dan Grimshaw? Was Josh Bowler not released by Everton (and made us a few million).

What about Casey, Kouassi ? Are these not young prospects?

Apter (been with us since he was 16 in 2019)… Flying at Tranmere..

Also were a couple of our January signings not also out of higher level academies?

Fair point. Not to forget Godo for Wigan who was absolutely superb, and only 17 years old as well.

Unfounded criticism. 5 years ago the academy was a joke. Any decent youngster would have been dragged kicking and screaming by their parents to pretty much any alternative academy with actual facilities. Our starting point was therefore very low. In the last 3/4 years the facilities are massively improved- but most top kids join academies at 11 or even younger - therefore the cream of the crop we now can attract and have been able to for a few years are still very very young.
It’s actually fairly impressive we’ve managed to keep hold of Apter and develop him the way we have. There’s nothing to say if he’d stayed at BR this season he’d have flourished like he has at Tranmere. Also worth noting Rangers and Brighton to name 2 have poached other talented youngsters away from us.

We’re catching up on generations of under investment and also having to rebuild a reputation for developing and coaching players - and that can’t just be fixed with a new building and a few extra coaches. Would you really have sent your child to anywhere associated with the Oystons?!

We’re still years behind Blackburn, Wigan and Bolton and probably only just catching up with PNE. Fleetwood have been a success and that comes down to their facilities - which we’re working on too, but we’re not there yet.

Fans expected a promotion push this season, the reality check of this season may well allow us to bring one or two of our younger players forward next season. Our "improving young players" coach may prefer to improve other club's young players though! 🤔

If Dobbie had got the Job Apter would be a first team regular now and some of the others would get a chance. Critchley thinks he’s Billy big bollocks and the youngsters have to be Liverpool a academy players, he’s a bit of a fraud if you ask me and he has major limitations but he thinks he’s the dogs bollocks.

If Debbie had got the job we'd at least have done Dallas!

I think Dobbie is a reasonable judge of a player but a very good judge of how to put players together to make an attacking and winning team without worrying about the opposition. Solid Motivational management.

I think Critchley is a reasonable judge of a player but has no clue how to assemble a team other than on a squad rotation basis to hide his deficiencies in assembling attacking and winning teams and he focusses on the opposition first compounding the situation. Sterile management.

I'm far from being a Critchley fan but if we're talking about successful development squad coaches, are we really comparing Dobbie and Critchley?

We need a good football manager, Critchley doesn't look like he's the man but there's no reason to think Dobbie is either. The old Liverpool MO of recruiting ex players and promoting from within worked very well for a short time but ultimately failed. Recruiting a successful manager from a lower division is the answer... We had the chance of Evatt but didn't take it... SS needs to grow a pair, ditch Critch and bring in a decent manager! Dobbie may become a good manager but do we really need to take that gamble?

He’s a massive fraud, look at his record to see that 👍🏼 Oh and as for those top coaching badges, they only did them for one year before scrapping them

The stubborn coach that he is wouldn’t want Dobbie to look in any way better than him self.
Also, a definition of er is: to make a mistake or to do something wrong:
Maybe he should think about that next time it comes out.

Our Club is failing in almost every aspect of the footballing side. No surprise given both Sadler and Critchley are completely clueless.

So with all those excuses being dragged on and on, when can we actually expect to see an academy player play for the first team?

We would all like to see more home-grown players, but finding them, nurturing them, warding off predatory bigger clubs and then signing them is extremely hard and time-consuming work. Around 99.8% of children who sign schoolboy forms with clubs never actually make it as far as a professional contact.

good debate. A key to the answer for me, is what happens with Apter next season. He's more than proved himself in L2 this season and if he's not a regular in our squad next season then questions do need to be asked. Of Critchley! He's supposed to be a coach who was reported to develop players for the first team. We've seen little evidence of that. People will point to Apter and Casey but did they improve as players because of the managers at the clubs they were on loan with. I've always been of the belief that Critchley has his favourites and they are the players he's brought to the club himself. Apter isn't one.

Have we not already seen some Academy Player's featuring in the Cup competition this season? Apter has been with us since he was 16 and will likely feature for us next season in the League (all being well).. He certainly seems to have progressed very well during his time with us.

Which cup? The Mickey Mouse one?

Think 99.8 is a little high mate. At Fleetwood about 3 years ago they brought something like 14 through in one year. Admittedly the pub team down the road are years ahead of us with their academy….. indeed they even have class rooms as well as football pitches 😳

It's a quote from the Crouch Review MM. Blame her. :)

I’m not sure it really matters… It shows that we are taking those opportunities to give the younger players an opportunity.

They have played in the same team as First Team regulars in a competitive game.. Critchley was in charge.

Women in football hey, what do they know?

of course it matters, me and you could have got our boots dirty up at Morecambe or Barrow 😉

They just can’t manage to be anything apart from a bit shit where it really matters though.

Still straining their necks looking up at the Pool, despite how far behind them we supposedly are.

It’s about integrating them in over a proper process though MM. People are suggesting that there is no process or that NC is not interested in developing our own youth players… Yet I’m giving you an example where our much younger talents have been given a development opportunity by the manager and you want to just ignore it…

I bet if it happened at Fleetwood it would be groundbreaking news.. 😂
