How many players still required

If all current players are kept, we still need 1 striker and then I think should hold fast to see who is available late in the window.
From the close of last season we got rid of 8 plus 5 loans
Carey is now over 21 and we have signed 4 so we still have options.
Do not want to get in a situation like last season where we had to loan out 5 players to try to revamp the squad

Depends how many depart and some will. Tharme Casey James Virtue Dale Beesley Yates all possible sales or loans. Lyons has been mentioned too. I still think 2 or 3 loans will come in to add some attacking quality.

Weve got 21 senior outfield players for 22 places. My guess, just a guess, is that Tharme and Dale will be loaned out and James sold to Wednesday, leaving 4 places to fill.

Casey/Tharme are good enough as 3/4th choice CB at this level, there's no reason for them to go, Virtue/Dale are good players at this level, unless someone comes in with a big money offer we'll likely keep them as well, Beesley the club will want to give the opportunity to prove his worth at this level.

Yates and James are the two that I think will leave.

Not many I don't think . A lot depends what Crotch will be seeing in pre season over the next few weeks. I'd say another striker or 2 depending and another winger . Other than that I'd say we re pretty much there ..
Defence is already better , as is midfield ...On Paper at least

You might be right but i think Tharme may go on loan. And I'm not sure how invested Dale is, or reliable.

Depends how many hamstrings go in pre-season 😱……..

In reality, IF we keep Jerry I don’t think we’re too far off and some decent loans across the thirds should set us up nicely. Midfield is looking strong - and hopefully it will actually be used this season!

as said, depends on Yates. If he goes we need a goal scoring forward and also a target man who can get his fair share of goals too. After that, a lot will depend on how good the players we've signed are and whether Critch thinks the likes of Tharme, Casey and one or two others have improved over the last 12 months.

CJ is a perfectly good winger and I hope he is used a lot. I'm also wondering if Lyons will be pushed further up with Gabriel. As usual it depends who leaves especially Jerry. All I can say is so far so good.

Tharme went out on loan last season - surely the club don't want to repeat that again. He's either good enough now or he isn't, and the same for Casey I would suggest. Critch will probably want to have a good look at them over the pre-season before making a decision. At this precise moment we probably only need a proven striker to replace Madine with any further in-comings after Critch has assessed the squad as a whole, but in particular, Tharme and Casey (as mentioned before) together with Hamilton, Dale, Beesley and possibly Thompson. This doesn't take account of any "enforced" departures of course, but let's not forget we have a development squad, from which several could feature this season at some point.

Yes Critch will assess everything and everybody and we will have to see what he concludes. I reckon he'll free up spaces for new faces though.

I would like to think we'll get two more in this week and then a couple more before the first game and then hope for some decent loans in August whilst also retaining Jerry's services?

Feels like we've done the old trick of filling the midfield but neglected the rest of the squad.
The longer the summer goes on, the more elusive a striker will be and whilst I desperately hope we keep Yates, if we don't I don't think Lavery/Beesley will be anywhere near good enough. Would like a proven L1/L2 striker in the next week or so.

I'm sure Critch is aware of this and is working on it. He did sign Yates, Anderson, Simms and Embleton in his first season here. I'm not sure we will get that sort of quality again mind?

Agree that we need a striker to replace Madine - could be Chris Martin maybe? I don't think that Critch is in a hurry though, as he'll probably want to assess Beesley in particular before he considers any other in-comings.. If Beesley needs some game time at a lower level he might go out on loan, but I'm hoping that he might actually turn out to be a very good striker at this level, and given his young age, capable of playing ultimately at a higher level. Who knows?

Beesley is 26, and 27 in December, so needs to crack on really.

Be interesting to hear what those who went last night think about this? Reading the reports and with Jerry likely to go I’d say 5 short?

Would that mean 3 out of the door?
Suspect no more than 2 loans in.
I actually think we are ok defence and midfield.
Would like to buy Carlos Mendez Gomez from Luton now they are promoted he probably will not feature, and he scored 7 on loan to the Cods in L1 so ready to play at this level

Depends on formation.

352

2 strikers, 3 of Yates is off. Get rid of Beesley and Holmes.
1 centre mid. Get rid of Virtue.
1 Left sided centre back. Assess whether Thompson can play wing back.

433/442

2 wide men.
1 Striker. 2 if Yates is off. Still get rid of Beesley and Holmes.
1 centre mid.

We only have one place left so a striker, after that a few will be shipped out and loans brought in i would imagine.

Most of the squad are Critch signings, so unless someone much better and cheap are made available, rhen I do not see many loans out other than dev squad.

Get rid of Holmes?? He is still young and looks good already, give the lad a chance

Obviously he’s a young local lad so everybody has a bit of sentiment. Give him a chance when there’s nothing to play for, yes. Give him a chance from the start in a lg1 promotion push, no. Not done enough unfortunately

How can you say that, based on what? He has played a handful of first team games as they slowly integrate him, scored shit loads for the development squad, looks promising. Harry Kane got farmed out to Millwall at a similar age, Holmes looks like he could be a good player, nobody is expecting him to lead the line just yet. Insanity to just get rid of him, glad you aren't head of development.

Are you comparing Brad Holmes to Harry Kane? Likewise I’m glad you’re not head of development

Holmes is 18, i.e. a U21 player and doesn't count towards the squad limit, so if the club gets any first team appearances out of him that's a bonus.

He's also likely on about £500 p/w, so his wages aren't going to break the bank, and he's a prospect for the future, get even a decent L1 striker out of him in a couple of years and that's likely £500,000+ saved by the club.

Harry Kane was young once mate. Please tell me, in what respect has Holmes 'not done enough.'?
He scored 3 times in 23 appearances in the national league north.

He’s 20, not 18. 21 in December.

Arguments about his age are pretty pointless. The reality is that he's a young player with time to develop so getting rid would be ridiculous and bad business. That doesn't mean though that he can't be loaned out for regular game time. National League/L2 perhaps.
