How many times have we scored 6?

Looking at Blackpool's results involving 6+ goals for either team, the picture up to the start of WW2 shows the following:

Our first Football League game with a 6-X scoreline was in 1897-98: we lost 0-6 away to Walsall.
Our first such victory was the following season: 1898-99, when we beat Darwen at home 6-0 (Parkinson, Parr, Morris 2, Birkett, Williams).

Having said that, 1898-99 was not a happy season for the 'Pool. despite amalgamating with South Shore we lost away 0-6 again to Walsall, 0-6 to Woolwich Arsenal, 1-6 to Burslem Port Vale, 0-5 to Small Heath and 0-7 to Gainsborough Trinity. We ended the season 3rd from bottom. Unsurprisingly Darwen finished bottom, never to trouble the football league again.

There was no further League win or defeat by 6 goals until 1902-03: Lost 0-6 away to Barnsley.
I have, of course, ignored the small matter of a 1-10 drubbing away to Small Heath in 1900-01.

1904-05 was better, with no 6 goal defeat to anyone and a home 6-0 thrashing of Barnsley (something we could do with repeating this Saturday).
1905-06 saw us lose 0-6 away to Chelsea.
Apart from a 1-6 defeat away to Spurs in the cup (1912-13, when we finished bottom of the League), that was that until after WW1.

In the first full post-war season (1919-20) we beat Lincoln City at home 6-1 (Lane 3, Sibbald 2, Heathcote). But also lost away 6-0 to South Shields.
One hundred years ago, in 1923-24, we beat Port Vale away 6-2 (Bedford 3, White, Butler, Meredith) on 15th March 1924.
One week later (22nd March) we beat Port Vale at home 6-1 (Bedford 3. White 2, Meredith). That sounds like an odd choice of back to back fixtures by the selectors. However, all fixtures that season were arranged in this way; playing the same team twice before moving to two games against a different team.
In 1925-26 we lost 1-6 away to Swansea Town and 4-6 away to Preston (OG, Williams 2, Butler). That would have been PNE's first season outside of the top division.
in 1926-27 we beat Barnsley at home 6-1 (Fishwick 3, Thorpe, Ayres, Wellock). We also beat Clapton Orient at home 6-0 (Fishwick, Tremelling 3, Crook, Downes), and Grimsby Town at home 6-2 (Crook 3, Tremelling 2, Downes). We lost to Barnsley away 1-6.

By the mid-20s games with a team scoring 6 or more became more common:
1927-28: 3-6 defeat to WBA, 6-2 win over Bristol City, 1-6 defeat to Port Vale.
1928-29: 7-0 win over reading (Hampson netting 5)
1929-30 (Div. 2 Champions): 6-4 win over PNE (Hampson 3), 7-1 win over Bristol City (Hampson 2), 1-6 defeat away to Spurs, 6-0 win over Charlton Athletic (Hampson 4).
1930-31: 3-7 defeat to Leeds Utd, 1-7 defeat to Sheff Weds, 1-10 defeat to Huddersfield Town, 1-7 defeat to Arsenal, 0-6 defeat to Leicester City and a 2-6 defeat to Grimsby Town. We stayed up but ended the season with 71 (For) and 125 (Against).
1931-32 saw us getting to grips with the top flight: 65 (For) and 102 (Against). The only game with 6+ goals for either side was a 7-2 win over WHU.
1932-33 saw us lose our grip of the top flight, finishing rock bottom, with scores against Aston Villa being an away defeat 2-6 and a home win 6-2. We also lost to Blackburn Rovers 5-6.
back in Div 2 in 1933-34 we lost 0-7 away to Grimsby Town.
The next season (1935-36) was our first with Joe Smith as Manager. We beat Charlton Athletic 6-2 and Newcastle United 6-0.
In Joe Smith's second season (1936-37) we were promoted back to Div. 1, finishing second. We beat Nott'm Forest 7-1, Leicester City 6-2 and Bradford City 6-0.
In 1937-38 we did well, finishing 12th in Div. 1 and without any fixture involving 6 goals+ for either team.
In our final full pre-war season (1938-39), there was only one game involving 6+ goals for either team: We lost away to Middlesbrough 2-9.

That completes my review of 6+ goals for either team up to the start of WW2.

One of my earliest games - saw us beat Bury 6-0 at Bloomfield Rd (1968?)

With the enthusiasm of a child, I thought ‘This is brilliant - it’ll always be like this’

In the immortal words of Arthur Lowe - ‘Stupid boy….’

We had some amazing scores in the WWII years, albeit they weren't first class fixtures.

Don't think we've ever put six past Cardiff?
You are right. It was a draw. We put 6 past Carlisle a few weeks before. I was getting the results in Venezuela’s English language newspaper a day late! I still have the notebook where I wrote down all the scores and amended the league table almost daily.

That season we conceded 125, is the highest total conceded without being relegated. History makers.
