How much do you pay for your phone contract?

My phone contract is up for renewal with Vodaphone. My current iPhone is mashed, after a iPhone 13 to sinc with my Apple Watch.

36 month, £22 upfront for the handset, 25gb data and £7 for the watch that I already have to be linked circa £54 a month seems expensive to me. This is with Vodaphone.

Also when did three year contracts become a thing?

Out of contract from Wednesday.

What do other people pay and what tactics do people use when negotiating new terms?

I’ve looked after an old iPhone 6S it’s on its 3rd battery & the self destruct chip must have malfunctioned, as it’s still going strong, out of contract years ago & sim only with 6 gb data which is plenty for me at £12 a month I’m going to haggle soon as it’s gone up from £10 outrageous.

£9 a month calls,text and 6GB of Data.
Most places have WiFi from pub to supermarket so stuff paying these obscene amount in contracts.

Buy your own phone the price of some mobiles are overinflated especially IPhone's.

Stuff contracts.

£10 a month with Sky for 10gb sim only.

Don’t even use half that in a month so racked up loads of bonus award points in my piggy bank. 😌

Too much, it’s all a rip off
Not really contracts with the phones thrown in are a rip off but sim only deals are cheaper than they've ever been.

For example my first mobile was £10 a month after buying the phone outright and for that you got nothing texts cost 10p each phone calls a fortune and internet was not around yet on them.
Now you can get the lot for a tenner.

Currently paying £72 a month, unlimited everything except 100gb of data per month which has proved to be a complete waste as I rarely go above 5gb, bought it initially for mobile gaming but it turns out its still not advanced enough to be interesting to me. The 5G in my area is absolutely dogshit, which is very upsetting considering I'm paying extra money for the Samsung s21ultra 5G model and most of the time I have it set to run on 4G mode due it saying I'm connected to 5G and it not working at all. I do have an xbox one series x on there as well with game pass and a few add ons which dampens the blow somewhat. I think i pay abouy 40 quid for the phone contract alone.

If I was to do all this again though I would definitely go for a cheaper deal.

About £21 a month. Unlimited calls and texts and 4 gb data.

Trouble is... if you're in the iPhone loop you need to get out of it. Upgrading to the newest phone every time your contact ends is literally pointless.

You probably already know this but you're not paying for the phone services but the phone. If you work out most contracts monthly cost and times it by the months you're tied in for you almost always end up bang on the rrp for the phone you've chosen.

For those that are interested Plusnet doing a good deal on sim only 30 day rolling contracts

Thanks for that.
Cheaper than the similar deal I've got with EE.
And Plusnet use the EE network, which I've found to give the best reception.

I’m with plusnet, they piggyback on EE network so coverage is great. 10g , unlimited mins & unlimited texts £7 per month.😁

Samsung s9 that's mine. Just on sim only 6gb data, unlimited calls/texts, rolling 30 day contract - £5 a month with Lebara. They use vodaphone network and is spot on. Vodafone and O2 share masts

I'm on 32 quid a month including a huawei spy phone plus spotiify

25gb and unlimited calls n texts with vodafone

Mine is due soon but can't really upgrade the phone as the apps won't work on the new phone due to Google and politics issues 😭😭

Used to work sorting out companies phone contracts and companies used to pay over the odds for data they never ever used. Always check out how much data you actually use as you'll be surprised how little you actually need so cheaper deals available

I always buy then handset up front. It gives you much more negotiating power. Also, if you travel abroad watch out as some companies are introducing roaming charges

21 quid, unlimited data, texts, calls.

Don't do contacts after my last one expired. Buy the handset and do sim only, its the best way.

Wouldn't touch an iPhone or a contract

Never had an issue with ee, paid 26.50 a month, they were keen for me to upgrade early and told them I wanted cheaper deal, on 22.50. Decent phone, free texts and data enough for me.

Smarty SIM only is 12 gb per month at only £7 if you wait until their offers are on. Free if you recommend anyone

Wow that's pretty ouchy. That's a lot of stuff you re just not paying for. People upgrade to better camera, faster processor, more memory etc and basically a phone that does a fraction of any of that would still do more than they actually need.
Bit different if you re a gamer I suppose but £72 x 12 x 2years? Is a fantastic holiday, second hand car etc etc

Nothing, work pays. Not bragging or anything ..just suggesting that if you're in a half decent job and occasionally make work calls it's a reasonable thing to ask for.

I have unlimited calls texts and 4G internationally, and therefore don't need a separate WiFi plan. Did a test just now and it was 89 Mbps. I download TV and movies off torrent sites and watch football for free. Happy to share links via PM.

£8 a month sim only. Unlimited calls and texts 8 g data. Does me.

Still using my iPhone 11 Pro Max. Able to upgrade after 24 months, but decided to keep it as it’s a cracking phone and go for a sim only contract.
Good tip: try to renew contract in Black Friday period. Some excellent deals on. I’m paying £7.70 p/m sim only. Unlimited calls and text. 11GB of data (actually paying for 1GB, with 10GB free as the Black Friday deal). 18 months, but I can upgrade after 3 months if I want… which I don’t. Happy to keep this. Also got a deal on my Apple Watch for £3.50 p/m - half normal price.

£10
Unlimited texts and calls
10gb data which rolls over
1 month contract - ID Mobile

Strongly considering downgrading to a phone with no internet as current smartphones are very bad for the soul.

Just signed up for another two years with O2 and you get the first year half price and so £12!
