How Not to Run a Football Club book

Book went to print last week, just waiting to hear the confirmed release date. Retailers have it at March 14 but it is most probably a few days to a couple of weeks after that. Sometime in that international break.

In the meantime, I'll leave you with some reviews so you know it's real:

Daniel Storey, the i newspaper "I thought I knew most of Blackpool's story - for better and then eventually far worse - during their rollercoaster last two decades; I was wrong. Nathan's book is painstakingly researched and yet the frankly ludicrous details of this club's farce make it eminently readable. He is a supporter of Blackpool, but fandom is never used as an excuse to sugarcoat the truth or hyperbolise the bad. Instead it is a well-told, reasoned account of Blackpool's sorry lament."

Jack Gaughan, Daily Mail "A scarcely believable turn of events deserving of long-form chronicling. No story in the recent history of British football runs it close."

Our very own TAM "Having offered to proof read an earlier draft I can assure those who have pre-ordered you will not be disappointed. It’s a great read - I stayed up to 3am two nights on the trot as I couldn’t put it down. It’s an incredible record of a unique period in football"

Can you get a quote from Graham Le Saux?😀👍

Mine was on order for my birthday, last October. It then became a Christmas present, it will probably be moved onto Father's Day, can't wait to read it 👍

Please ignore, sorted it.
👍

The wife has a Waterstone's account and has had it on on order for me from the middle of last year. Looking forward it. Copies should be sent to football correspondents, Tracey Crouch and the governing bodies. I wonder if the Os will have another failed attempt at court action? 🤣

Les is servicing the Corsa as we speak 😂

Just pre ordered it on Amazon in Hardback, £12.23 Bargain! really looking forward to reading it.

Will soon see, but I'm guessing you won't have covered everything that happened as surely you would need permission from the people involved
It doesn't work like that Phil - witness the number of cases where authors have been sued. However, given a previous statement that the lawyers had crawled all over the manuscript you may well be right for once.

Everything that was well sourced and could be proven was put in, at least when it comes to the Oystons and the football club. Although as I've recently realised there's definitely some smaller funny stories that didn't make it (like lucozade as mentioned above) purely because it was impossible to remember and catalogue every little thing.

There was some stuff the lawyer advised to be taken out about ancillary characters because it wasn't worth it, because the book isn't about them. But there was a TONNE of reporting that went into this book as a whole to be able to cover the Oystons extensively.

For example, theres a section covering the STD story. I doubt you will see that published anywhere else...

Looks like release day may be March 21st, so just a week after what retailers are currently saying. Will know for sure soon.

Will hopefully get everyone through the international break.
I go on Holiday 4 weeks after the release….it’s going to be an extremely hard time to try and not read it before my Hols…wifey will have to hide it…..we will need spoiler alerts on here as well..

The very best of luck with this mate. Writing a book is a tough and mental process, and once it's out there you are open to all kinds of criticisms, BUT don't forget that YOU did this and you should be really proud. Just make sure you don't knock 'Flat Caps and Tangerine Scarves' off the shelves eh? Have a champagne, whiskey or brandy to celebrate (or maybe all three) and know that it was YOU who did this and no one else. Proud of you mate. Very proud. Roy

Actually that's a really good point 99. Once it is released there will naturally be a lot of discussion about it. Maybe AVF could consider doing something like "the Foggy Thread" for folk to comment on the book if they want to, so those who haven't read it can avoid.

Thanks Roy, that's incredibly kind of you to say.

I'm not very good at taking criticism, so I've decided to write a perfect book that nobody could possibly pick issue with. That's what caused these delays. It's a foolproof plan.

I know exactly your plan. I've written FOURTEEN perfect books, and yet STILL people criticise. What can you do....??
