How Not to Run a Football Club - Official Discussion Thread

As usual I'm late to the party & don't do Twatter . What's Phill been up to this time .? If not Foul, abusive,offensive , slander or libel then I don't see why posts should be banned etc but that would empty this board at a stroke from some posters ☹️

The 2nd edition is probably the paperback edition that is aimed at the Christmas 2022 market.
This new edition gives publisher/author a chance to correct any mistakes (petty, factual or otherwise). Working back from the deadline for author to submit changes to publisher, does Foggy have deadline for receipt of corrections from 1st edition readers

Finished it on the plane, great book as expected. From a purely selfish pov I would have liked more TK stories but I'm glad our coffee trips got a mention 😄 ( I miss them ). Nice touch with the Derek Spence story, it really showed the difference in owners.

I think everyone wants more of what they were involved in

i still think the Hilton should have been in there - quite simply because most of those there are people who will be buying the book and looking fo it

Also Neil on the Arsenal bus

There's loads of stuff not in but with a word limit of 65k ( broken by 10k ) something has to give

Neil H not being mentioned and the fund raising do afterwards at The No.10 should be corrected in any reissue tbh..takes some balls that

I'd have liked to see voxpops from Court attendees after each court day: thoughts on the day's events, expectations, wishes....that sort of thing.

Surely we needed another 200 pages on the EFL rule book?

Is it over 2000 sales and remind us how many were at the Hilton. Quite simply, if you are a Blackpool fan it is a must read and worth buying, outside our club it is a great read for anyone involved in a club having problems and highlights what can be done and achieved and an interesting read for whoever else. The Hilton holds no buying points, unless you were involved in the Hilton, of which you were.

There were 500 fans there and 2500 on the live stream

It was also the first time O spoke to the fans in perhaps 15 years

That's why say it should be mentioned not that i was there

NH got his mug on the cover. 😂
I was always just off camera unless in disguise. 🥸

One favourite of mine was some Oyston private detective trying to record conversations at a club using a camera hidden in a briefcase.

Disappointing no mention of my mate DH sitting on the centre circle at HT against Chesterfield in the mid 80s. Took stewards 10 minutes to move him and our result came in after Bury 3.15 kick off

Fully appreciate the word count which is pretty much right. My comment was tongue in cheek rather than a philism ( sorry phil)

Really enjoyed the book, well done Foggy.

I have to say that the efforts some went to to ensure we removed the stains was really unbelievable, as was the way Karly behaved. It’s mad because in some ways he does make me laugh at certain things he did but then you remember he was in charge of our Football Club and it’s still incredible to think what we achieved with his negativity and him constantly holding the Club back to get a cheap win to satisfy his ego.

The pages on him flapping under examination and ringing round on the break to try and sort it was top drawer. I remember constantly checking pages on here and I’ll never forget my circles group text the day that judgement came through with the 31 million. Those who weren’t on here genuinely didn’t believe it. It was almost Wembley equivalent stuff. The book did a great job at reminding me of this.

Personally, I only did a few meetings and most of the protests but the way so many put their personal lives on the line should never be forgotten (easy to sometimes) and they should always be revered. Its brought everyone together. I’ll be taking two of my kids to the match today, they are both buzzing and so many Blackpool fans played a part in that. Without sounding fromage, there’s something very special about that and I think it shows. From the Armfield Club to the ground and the atmosphere, it’s the dog bollocks at the moment.

Thanks for putting that all together, there’s bits that could be in and I get that, but with a limited word count and so much to cover from that wretched family I think it hits the target and more.

UTP.

Just finished the book, absolutely fantastic read and so well written. Well done and thanks @foggy for telling the story.

Sacrifices were made across the fanbase, but to those who took risks and made such personal sacrifices, thank you.

The biggest impact on me was the epilogue and more particularly the last paragraph. I’ve been fortunate to sit next to Foggy’s dad for a good number of years, although he may say he’s been unfortunate sitting next to me 😂. I’ve seen Nathan grow up, his brothers and the whole family at games, just like it should be. It resonates with me, seeing my lad from 5 years old growing up as a Pool fan then having to miss so many years. It was all worth it and tonight he’ll be at Preston with me for the first time.

It’s a reminder that win, lose or draw, we should focus on the fact we are again able to watch our team play. We were prepared to start again in non-league if necessary. As time goes by and particularly when things aren’t going well on the pitch, we’ll all forget that at times.

Have we thought about who will play which characters if this is turned in to a TV Drama/Film?!
Owen = Jon Pertwee
Karl = Daniel Radcliffe
Affroman= Jon Pertwee
Raggy = Matt Lucas
Valeri BeleKon= Jude Law (Vasili Zaitsev enemy at the gates)
Judge Marcus Smith = Martin Shaw (aka judge John Deed)
Andrew Green QC=Barry Newman(petrocelli)

Excellent read, just finished. Seems the oyscums were a bit dodgy doesn't it. 😁 Can't say that at times it paints Uncle Val in a great light but the truth will out and we have so much to thank him for despite his dodgy eastern European dealings.

Just want to add my thanks to Foggy. Must've been a huge amount of work and it's got to be good to have all the key stuff documented. History is never recorded 100% accurately but it seems like an excellent attempt to me. I was aware of most of the stuff in it but not everything, and I'd forgotten bits. It's difficult for a book to convey the pain and all the absurdity of years of Oyston behaviour but it's a good attempt. And it's good to have a record of it. Lest we forget!

Finally (finally finally) it seems like some people are getting their copies, so I thought I'd make a thread here for your comments, questions etc, general chat. Looks like WH Smith had their copies ready to pick up yesterday and Blackpool Waterstones have most of the orders placed with them ready to pick up today (general stock for sale in shop not quite ready yet though) and have deliveries out in the post. Amazon has told people April which was in error and are now updating estimated delivery to next week.

Looking forward to all your thoughts. If you spot a typo, don't tell me for a few weeks, the amount of times I proofread it I don't think I could take it just yet!

Book signing/q+a has been postponed from this week as stock hasn't arrived at the Armfield Club and many won't have gotten their orders yet, but will sort out a new date soon.

Happy reading all. Thank you so much for buying, I hope it lives up to expectations. My twitter is @nathanjfogg, send me all your photos please!
I’ve never been a big reader but I have to say I couldn’t put it down read from cover to cover! What a fascinating book.
Unbelievable what went on in our club. Well done Foggy!!

If anything sums up old barcode to a tee it’s this…A834F5A3-0303-488B-B704-B3ABAEC87872.jpeg

Glad I bought it…bought another for an elderly relative to read in his care home. He will absolutely love this given he’s in his 90s and old enough to have grown up on the same street as Old Man Oyston and has some old photos of them both to show for it. Even when he was very young he had a face like a poisoned rat! And he actively AVOIDED going to football…

Was a bit slow off the mark. Ordered yesterday, due for delivery tonight. Would still like an audible version too.

Think it was myself and Koudo who went to one of the less attended court cases in Manchester and we saw an oldish bloke at the front of the court making notes in short hand like a journalist does. At the end we stopped him to ask which newspaper he was writing for and he answered that he was there to make notes for a book he was writing on Owen Oyston. His name we later found out was Andrew Rawsthorn and he was the one who translated the Paris judgement for Owen. He also told us when we asked when the book was coming out that he didn’t dare release it til Owen died as he would probably get sued as well …….. not bad seeing as he was one of his friends hey? 😂😂
I'm pretty sure I was with you 😉

Could we book Owen to do the voicing…he used to be an actor and would probably get pro rates.
He used to do loads of the adverts on Red Rose and of course the infamous swimming pool advert! Had a decent voice in fairness - only decent thing about him!

That swimming pool advert just about sums him up. Comes across as charming and entertaining. Reality is a lying shyster who kept the prize money to himself.
