How Not to Run a Football Club - out next week!

Hi all,

I've had it confirmed from the publisher that the book is coming back from the printers this week and will be headed to retailers. Some will have it ready for March 14th, others may not get it till later in the week - I think Amazon is the 19th. It will be available on e-book from the 14th.

Thank you to everyone who has pre-ordered the book, I can't wait for you to get a chance to read it and I hope it lives up to the expectations. It was a lot of responsibility to tell this story, and it had to he done right. After interviewing 50 or so people, hundreds of thousands of words transcribed and going over the word limit by about 10,000, I think it will do it justice.

Have you any idea what the pre-sales are, Foggy?

No.10 in last week's Sunday Times bestsellers (non-fiction hardbacks) sold 1,300.

Which bit?
Maxim Bakiyev and the money moving through the club. I got the documents from Global Witness who were reluctant to release them but some guy from the team sent them over surreptitiously. I forwarded them to the Trust.

GW released stuff on that in 2012 and 2015. That's not what I was referring to about unpublished stories.

I'm sure David Conn would read it and refer to it at some point to illustrate the incompetence and corruption plaguing the game.

Pre ordered mine last night. Looking forward to reading it.
When’s the movie planned ?
Getting Peter Jackson and the Coen Brothers on the same set won't be easy. But worth the wait for the perfect for the slick combination of surreal fantasy crime drama.

Just pre-ordered, no idea when I'll get round to reading it though. Having 2 children under 2 I've still not had time to read Flat Caps & Tangerine Scarves.

Be carefull when you come on here as every man and his dog will be starting threads….inc multiple repeating ones……

Thank you! Maybe be better to say publication week as I'm not sure how many will actually get copies in their hands today, I've not even had mine delivered yet. We'll see how everything gets on.
Any news on the kindle version?

Amazon is saying the 19th so i'll assume next week.

Still nothing on the Kindle version - apparently it will be available but you can normally pre order Kindle version that would download on release day.

It's technically available for release today it's just no retailer has it in just yet, so Kindle should be available before 19th.

My publisher told me ebook would be available today but then yesterday said it isn't ready yet. Frustrating but it will be out this week when each retailer gets it from the distribution centre, they only got copies back from the printers late last week.

I ordered three copies on 10th April 2021 from a link you put up to Waterstones.

This is lifted from the order today

Published: 14/03/2022
Availability at time of order: Awaiting publication

So, anyone any idea?

I'm tempted to write to a book

"How not to launch a book about how not to run a football club" any takers 😉

And for the avoidance of doubt, the last line was a joke!

It's not been easy I've just been anticipating it for nearly a year.

I think it should be added to the BFC display at the National Football Museum.

Nobody is waiting for their doorbell to ring with a copy more than me, believe me! I've not had mine arrive yet from the publisher. I've got the champagne on ice here.

All I know is the publisher got the books back from the printers on the 11th and are distributing them to retailers. As soon as they get stock they can sell them. It was a quick turn around but I don't think they wanted to push the date back again for whateve reason.

My job is done, I pushed for a clearer date so everyone would get them at the same time but the publisher has chosen this direction and I'll leave it up to them.

Just phoned Waterstones, they've got a lot of copies on order but none in stock yet.
I was going to download a copy on Kindle, but I've changed my mind as I think the hardback will be a brilliant addition to my bookshelf for many years to come (pictures will be better in a book also).

I've ordered a copy from Amazon for delivery on or after 19th. When it arrives, John Grimsham's books will just have to wait.

Thanks Dave. If it were up to me anyone who orders a hardback would get the ebook free too - just like when you buy a new vinyl these days there's usually slip of paper in it with an MP3 code for a free download. But if I ran a publishing house it would be bankrupt in a week so what do I know.

Just ordered my copy off Amazon, sounds like a must read for Pool fans 👍🏻

Having been fortunate enough to receive an advanced copy, I can recommend this book is must-read. I read it from cover to cover in one go which says it all.
Breaking News: Scrafton can read .. if only he could write!! 🤣
