How the hell have we managed to sign him?

Tom Ince was always being heralded as the next big thing when he started out at Liverpool and so was surprised he came to us.
We actually set out to sign Geraldo Bruna, Liverpool gave us Tom ince as a BOGOFF, the story around Liverpool at the time was they just wanted rid of him so his father would bugger off from the training ground.

Roy Race. It made news all around the world. Unfortunately first day of training he fell down a foxhole at Squires Gate and was so badly injured both his legs were amputated.😲

Gary Shaw. European Cup winner with Aston Villa. We were the first club he moved to after that as we bummed about in the third tier.
Think he came to us on loan after a bad knee injury, trying to regain his fitness. It was obvious in the handful of games he played that his vision and footballing ability was way above our level, even with just 1 good leg.

I know he was passed his best but I did like it when we signed Kevin Phillips.

Super Kev was a class act.

OK, he was getting on a bit then, but he had an incedible football brain. He always managed to be in the right place at the right time, and always seemed to have all the time in the world to bring the ball down and score.

DJ was good, but Kev was the best striker I've seen in a Blackpool shirt.

Marlon Harewood!

However, we had just gone up to the prem but remember thinking he would be some player for us as he had a good goal scoring record through the years with Forest and West Ham.

Apart from his debut, it didnt really work out for us.

The reasonably big name player I thought was going to be absolute class and then wasn't (other than Andy Reid) was Roman Bednar.

I saw Alan Groves' first game for us away at Stoke and he was brilliant. Sadly he never quite did it again in his few remaining games.
I first remember Alan Groves in the first game of the season against Oldham.
Gave our defence hell, he signed for us at the end of that season.
Late 20's when he passed away😔

I was in McDonald’s queuing up when some lads behind me were talking about Blackpool signing Barry Ferguson. At the time and considering what we were used to that made me go wow

Shit, forgot about Bednar.

I thought the same about him but he flopped for us ☹️

But he recovered quickly from his awful Injuries and scored a hat-trick the following week.
