Howard Webb and Refereeing Standards

In this article on standards in VAR decisions it's mentioned that my RL refereeing mate Phil Bentham has been recruited to improve standards and that Howard Webb is to visit all the PL teams and some in the Football League early in the new year to discuss officiating within the game as a whole. Wonder if he'll come to BFC?

I must say the standard of refereeing at our level has got noticeably worse this season. Not blaming our league position on them, just an observation.
No coincidence that the level of cheating/gamesmanship/shithousery has markedly increased as well.
Definitely detracts from my enjoyment of the game

The last two games have been in our favour Two goals ruled out and the Mad dog Madine incident !
Just the Madine one down to poor reffing, although perhaps the official was miffed about Cardiff whingeing to him and thought undue influence might be grounds for an appeal if he gave a red. Both Brum goals were clearly offside; the ref got the first one right in over-ruling the lino and the second was very clear. He did let a lot go during the match though, particularly fouls on Patino

Should be the world's easiest document to understand.

Proposal 1
Check which way United are kicking, award appropriately.

The End

In general, the football authorities urgently need to sort out player (& coaches) behaviour and take a lesson our of the two rugby codes books.
The list of issues to address is long, but includes crowding round the ref / arguing with him, the liners & the 4th official / foul language / violent conduct etc.
There's a Wigan amateur ref in the news today, who sent a player off, and was then 'scissor kicked' in the face, causing serious injury.
The level of violence against refs at amateur level is, we are informed, horrendous, and the professionals, are poor role models, when they should be setting the standard.

"A statement from Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the referee, Dave Bradshaw, sustained “significant injuries” after he was attacked by a Platt Bridge player during a South Lancashire Counties league game against Wigan Rose".

The original post was about asking video refs in rugby league to talk about how they deal with decisions.

A key difference is that the conversation between video refs and RL referees are conducted on an open line where viewers can listen.

Why isn’t that the case in the Premier League? Well the cynic might say that it allows manipulation of decisions to suit someone’s agenda. To be clear I am not saying this but a cynic might.

I think it would greatly improve confidence in the decision making process if there was transparency as the decision was made.

If that’s not possible at the time then the EPL should require any VAR official who overturns a decision to make a report, available on their website, stating the reason for changing a decision and providing clips of the video footage they used in coming to that conclusion.
