Humble Pie

Yep, absolutely. This result has given me so much pleasure, not just for the manner of it, but because the game had been written off by so many on here. CJ should be nowhere near the side - made the first goal and caused havoc throughout. Rhodes is past it - scored. Beesley is non-league standard - worked his socks off and will form a good partnership with Rhodes. Still, I am sure that the negative comments will resume at the slightest falter in performance or result. UTP

You are always going to win the odd game out of so many.

Very happy though.
What an insight!!

Does that mean you’re also going to lose the odd game out of so many?

And draw the odd game out of so many?

I really don’t know how we’d cope without all this footballing expertise you can find on avftt.

It’d be like …. well no one really knows before kick off, wtf is going to happen. Imagine what that’d be like.

Stop waffling. Hard to understand after a few pints.

It’s funny how some posters use the phrase ‘bedwetters’ after a defeat to criticise others, and after a win those same posters come on with ‘told you so’ comments.

The board is about football and of course it’s going to have a broad mix of views. It’d be pretty boring if we all had the same views.

A good result, but plenty of work to do. One win doesn’t change that, but it’s a start.

30 ish % possession at home isn't great for a team that's meant to be a possession based side

Anyway I'm delighted we won

Big 3 points that
I think the flip side was we moved the ball much quicker, played with purpose and less fear.

That creates more turnovers and shorter moves but ultimately, with players of our level, more pressure and chances.

Back to front was so much faster.

I saw the team sheet and my heart sank with Connolly at left wing back. But praise be - the set up was different. Effectively 4 at the back for the first hour with CJ playing much further up where he is so much more effective. So much so that we didn’t need anything down the left (which was just as well).

But then we get to the subs and the system reverted to 5 at the back. CJ is not a full back and we had no threat going forward. We just sat back and it was no surprise that one cross was met by a Wigan head and they scored.

I was amazed Critch didn’t give Rhodes a breather - he was knackered from the 60th minute and was surprised he didn’t injure himself.

Thankfully we got a break though and nicked the second (and could have had a third). But so easily could have gone the other way. Critch needs to bin the 5 at the back. It didn’t work again for the last 20 minutes and we were so much more effective when we had a back 4 - but please use a proper left back next time!

Yet when the bed wetters go on about 0-0's and 3-0's there's always an excuse for that result.
They won, but with only 30% possession at home loads of work to be done.
I'm delighted they won but imo it papered over some massive cracks
Not for me. This was a change of formation a change of attitude and extra skills in attack. No, this was not papering over the cracks. It was a complete reset.

If we go back to 352 and nervous back -passing, I'll be more wee'd off than a very wee'd off thing.

CJ was immense - Man of the Match all day long

I saw similar stats in the first half however I never felt like Wigan had that much more possession than us. I think if you look at the game as a whole they did a lot of what we often do, which is to have lots of possession in our own third. What impressed me today was how we won possession on the edge of our box and then transitioned play. More please !

It's not a case of humble pie or Critchley is always right, life in general isn't that black and white.
Hamilton was a justified selection because he has some attributes which bizarrely Wigan seemed to be unaware of!
Connolly is a grey area because he isn't a great player with the ball, he's not even average, but he possibly fills gaps well to allow Hamilton to exploit Wigans shit defending.
Jury is out for me but it was encouraging and we were much quicker moving the ball around without Ekpiteta which helped.

One of my few visits to Bloomfield Road today as I live away, but must say I really enjoyed the match, especially the atmosphere with the fans loudly supporting the team all through the match. Best fans ever on the kop. Thought we had the better chances and deserved to win
Yep spot on CAGU the North was extremely loud today from the off because we witnessed a team with players almost playing in their right positions, right formation, commitment and very entertaining!

Did not we have 70% possession at Lincoln?
They may have had more possession but rarely troubled us till late in the second half.
Agree there is work to be done, but a lot of positives from that match, so not sure the cracks are as massive as you make out.
Nice to go to a match and actually enjoy it.

Why is everyone thinking there should be apologies when most of the points put on this message board had valid points . We have managed to produce a good performance that deserved the win after 4 games of pure sh@te . When Critchley gets us back to where he left us ,in the championship then I will eat humble pie.

Funny that it has taken him so long to change the tactics ,even though people on here could see that we were not playing to our strengths.

What level of possession must we have to be fully happy with the three points?
