I watched two Premiership games this weekend. What a difference.

I firstly watched Newcastle vs West Ham. I am so glad Newcastle won, like many on here I became a West Ham hater following their fans behaviour in our play offs. What a great game. End to end , loads of goals, very enjoyable.
I later watched two of the Premierships finest. City vs Arsenal. I am sorry but it was just boring . You can see where Critchley gets his philosophy from watching City . Play from the back , knock it about , side to side, trying to pull the 11 man defence out of position. However they are good enough not to resort to the big boot up front when under pressure. Playing that way might get results ,but bloody hell I was bored . It was only when he brought Grealish and Doku on that the game improved.
Personally from a fans point of view ,I would rather have our one Premiership season , where we attacked, scored, conceded, scored again, went home with high blood pressure after every game, than watch that every week. I thank Ollie and his philosophy for that one great season and would not want to swop it for the boring football we have at the moment.
Come on the pool! Nothing to lose now , just go for it from the start today.

Newcastle v WHU was indeed a great spectacle that's for sure..
And yes, City v Arsenal was a boring game But you fail to address why it was. Arsenal simply parked the bus and were happy to take a point. Of course it's up to City to find ways to break them down and yesterday they couldn't do it. Now consider this. The top 5 in the EPL are all averaging scoring over 2 goals per game. Then go and have a look at the other 3 divisions. Only one team Ipswich are doing that. It's ridiculous to suggest the EPL is boring when the ratio of goals per game in those matches is significantly greater than the other divisions and always has been.

I'd suggest yesterdays City game was a one off but if you want to talk about boring then look no further than us where boring games probably account for at least 3/4 of our games this season.

Arsenal defended solidly yesterday they came not to lose and had a gameplan and quality of players to execute it.
What I particularly noticed about City yesterday was the amount of players they got forward, they probably only kept 2 back in open play.
Contrast this with us who pass the ball around in none dangerous areas and often only have 2 or 3 in positions where they can hurt the opposition.
We are very dull away from home and the results clearly tell us that it hasn't worked.

I'm a great believer in an atmosphere at a ground lifts the sides and excitement level of a game.

A strong home or away vocal support really lifts the match.

The atmosphere at most of the newer grounds is just sterile - City, Arsenal, Spurs, etc. so you end up getting games lacking in passion and excitement. A bit like watching England at Wembley - no passion in the crowd to lift the players into life and a really insipid atmosphere. The Mexican wave at a football match is just cringey,

I know its maybe a generalisation but I feel us northerners are a more passionate group and the atmosphere tends to be better at Northern grounds - Newcastle, Liverpool, Leeds spring to mind. City are the exception to this . . . they never used to be . . . the Kippax used to be one of the best stands in the country for atmosphere but not at the Etihad.

City are obviously a quality side but play like a machine . . . personally I find Liverpool a far better team to watch.

City would have won that 9/10 games.

Agree with the op. I find most of city's games to be boring as hell. Rarely get a great game where city are involved. Much rather watch Liverpool with their pace and attacking philosophy, even if it leaves them open at the back.

Shackles have to come off for the rest of the season. Now or never!

Very particular use of stats there. Just taking the top 5 of the division.

not at all. I've said on more than one post recently about the average goals per game. And guess what? That includes ALL the teams in the top league. And let's be logical about this. It's usually teams at the top of the division that score the most goals.

Hasn't League 1 always been boring?
I've seen all the sides in this division and maybe aside from Peterborough nothing has blown me away.

Maybe it's because now we can watch many games with the likes of Liverpool and City to compare with that we couldn't years ago or with inferior third division players managers trying to emulate what PL sides are doing.
Bit of both I'd say.

yep, agree. I've said that in my view that there's an inverted snobbery on here when it comes to the EPL. It's a fantastic product.

City Arsenal a complete bore fest, I forced myself to watch about 20 minutes.
Its like they are trying to see how many little passes they can get in before they give it back to the keeper and then start all over again. 🦀

Switched over to the cycling 🚴‍♀️

I watched those games and a few others - today was like watching (bad) schoolboys football.
Norburn's kick and hope football was embarrassing!
