I worry a bit about the knock on effects of this

Have already felt detached from this season, I think we're in for a mid-table fixtures where we'll be playing games no one will be arsed about and then the real likelihood of not being allowed back in next August. It felt the homecoming day was our chance to really get the club back on track, Sadler's arrival and even Grayson coming was a chance to get the crowds back .. there's no big homecoming event at the end of this .. will we get back on track?

We will be back in august, if India has fans in the ground to watch the cricket now then we will be back in August.

I am far more positive than the OP. The darkest hour is always before dawn. The reality was that this winter was always going to be the worst. A combination of NHS capacity problems (lack of staff) magnified by the colder weather (remember we always have a flu crisis in the NHS every winter) is the real story behind lockdown in my view. Assuming the government sort out the NHS staffing issues (HanCOCK promised us 50K more nurses remember back in 2019), I reckon this lockdown will be the last one. Warmer weather will help as should the vaccination of the vulnerable. Now, we will just have to live with it (just like we do the flu). And even the HanCOCK himself has said as much this morning.
As for fans losing interest, our owner is doing all the right things off the pitch to engage the wider community and once again making Blackpool FC a community asset that we can all be proud of. This should help to both sustain interest and engage a new generation of supporters.
I reckon we will be back at Bloomfield Road before the end of this season, possibly as early as after Easter. It will be bouncing again and interest will be as high as ever. If I'm right, with so many home games left, we cannot rule out a late charge for promotion....

There WILL be a big homecoming event at the end of this. Come on Wee-Bob, get those tangerine specs back on! 🍊😍🍊😄

And don’t forget the Kent variant that reared its ugly head in December that sent the government and NHS into an unexpected spin with it's high infection rate!

There’s so much going on around the club, but it’s not easy for us to see it because of the obvious.

Personally, I think there’s going to be a huge enthusiasm to be at any games when we’re finally allowed back. We also shouldn’t forget that mid-table is what happens to most clubs most of the time. We just happened to have a hugely chaotic period from 2006-2018; first the success, then disintegration and then the fight. There was always something going on. But let’s be honest, it’s wasn’t normal.

I can't help but think the type of "fan" who has been posting the kind of nonsense on twitter that has resulted in the police being involved are the ones who will lose interest if we finish mid-table and don't get back in the ground this season.

Every cloud.....

I also feel a lot more optimistic than the op. We have an owner who like the rest of us cares very deeply for the club and is building the blocks for a brighter future. There really is so much reason for optimism in that alone. We have a squad vastly improved on last season and the potential for far superior football, just as it stands alone now. We have a very capable young manager who is only going to improve with experience. We as fans will be back in the ground soon and the vibes i get from the board and actually talking to fans, i believe ( covid restrictions permitting) we will go back in significant numbers and the atmosphere will be buzzing. We have significantly more reason to believe we can attract the younger fans so why should we not be optimistic for the future.

That's a shame. Personally through lockdown and IFollow showing every game I've been very invested, the matches (when we actually play them) being very much the highlights of the week. I get that there is nothing like being inside the ground but access to all the games has been a Godsend for many.

You imagine if there was a date in which the general public were allowed to return it would be a 2nd homecoming, the inability to do something makes you want to do it more - so even those who have a slight interest in football/BFC would attend that first game back because they haven't been allowed to do it for so long.

I imagine it will trickle back first, but as soon as tickets are open for general sale they'll be snapped up. Who knows it could actually work in our favour of hooking some back in that lost interest after the boycott - ultimately you will always have the core that will attend no matter what.

I totally agree. At the moment the games are literally the only thing I have to look forward to in the short term.
We had 2 holidays cancelled last year, were supposed to be in Florida right now and are awaiting an upcoming trip to Cabo in May being cancelled.
Football is keeping me sane, the fact that I have been able to see every kick of every game has been an absolute God send.

You ask why not, I’d ask why you think that’s the right approach. It seems to be the argument for everything and sod those who are down the line, but who have sacrificed most to help those most vulnerable.
But I am down the line, and am not selfish enough to want to deny the more elderly and vulnerable access into the stadium first, if they are vaccinated.
It's another "sacrifice" I would be happy to take.

Only let the vaccinated into the stadium.
Some fans could be in the next home game.
Why not?
As others have said, because the vaccine doesn't mean that the person is guaranteed to be immune. There is also the second vaccine that people need to take and add into it the fact that for the most part those who have thus far had the vaccine are the ones who are priority because of the higher risk of getting covid. My brother being one, he was on the governments vulnerable list and (as his full time carer) I wouldn't under any circumstances risk him going anywhere near Bloomfield Road yet or until it is safe to do so, even with having the first vaccine, nor do I think that others should do so for their own health and others.

Alternatively, we might sneak into the top 6 and play-offs, AND be allowed back in the ground to watch it. How good would that be?! 😀

Hope you'll get what I mean here.

I'm going to use football as representing everything that we do, everything that everyone misses. Because we all have different interests, commitments etc.

And we're detached from all of it, because we have to be. And life for many has gone down to the base level of just doing whatever they can to keep going. We're living through one of those periods of history that people will read about in the future and wonder what it was like. Anyone, like me, who enjoys their history has read it themselves, now we're the subject.

Things will get going again, might take a year might take 5. It may never properly go away, who knows? But whenever we're presented with the chance to go to Bloomfield again, we need to take it, for ourselves and for those who didn't get that chance.
