If we did go up ...

... an ageing top striker who might not even be here, our best loan player gone and left with Tashan Oakley-Booth for another season - would it be a disaster?

Interesting if Oakley booth plays tonight as he had best game against Barnsley. Guess only one person guaranteed start tonight.. connelly 😯 but agree don't worry about this scenario

Plenty of Championship level players available, some even at the relegated sides like Willock from QPR and the odd one from the Wendies and Rotherham, better loanees, plus more money from being in the higher league and bigger attendances to supplement the budget. We need to be picking more points up from the middling sides between now and the end of January or it's academic.

Ideally, it's better to have long term succession planning in place when you get promoted so your better players are young, improving and on long term contracts so they can grow and get better once they reach the higher level.

It’s all irrelevant, we won’t be going up. Mid table at best this season and unless we start looking beyond free/ released players we will be in this league for a long time.

We've no chance of going up now morphing into we'd be stuffed if we did. Novel.
Yeah it's like the twin towers of ideals. So tonight on the FA Cup it's if we lose it will be good and concentrate on the league. Or we'd be better off if we stayed in L1 for now as we'd be fucked if we go up this season ☢️

I love the championship, the away fans, good players to watch and good football to savor.
Every win is hard earned but the big difference is the quality of players you sign because they come with big wages.
I hate to say it but we would struggle to stay up if we went back up because of the money involved.

No different from two years ago when we stayed up comfortably. What's the difference now ?

Some miserable barstewards on this thread . Hope you cheer up after we tank FGR 5-0 this evening.

the quality between ALL the leagues is widening.,

That’s if then. I’m telling uncle Simon that you’re being mean and don’t deserve tickets for Wembley 😁

As much as I enjoy the championship I want us to be competitive in it. The fact the nobbers have managed this for such a long time does give us hope.

We were pretty much the complete package back then, comfortably managing to hold our own against, reputedly, more illustrious opposition.

Whereas now, at the risk of sounding unduly critical, I feel we're more of what you might call a rag-tag type outfit.

But they do it at a large financial loss, I don't think SS wants that for us, I know I don't.
We are a club that will generally move up and down between league 1 and the championship, people should just try and enjoy it a bit more.
The atmosphere in Bloomfield has gone very flat, is it the weight of expectation? If it is it isn't helping anybody.

That’s a fair comment they have managed it but at massive financial cost.
I suppose I hope for us to be championship established with a chance, albeit small one, of maybe getting in the play offs. Although it’s probably an unrealistic target given our financial restraints (no dig at Sadler).

I honestly don't believe we are good enough to go up. We are much too inconsistent and lack physicality, especially in midfield. Steve Ayres on Mondays Radio Lancashire didn't think so either. Compared to Portsmouth we don't score any thing like enough set piece goals, we are too reliant on Jordon Rhodes for goals and we are not very good at defending set pieces!

The squad has strength in depth at this level, as evidenced by our cup displays. It’s good enough for promotion but if we keep playing this formation I don’t think we will

Steve Ayres knows nothing. He thinks Fleetwood are too good to go down.

The atmosphere has gone as flat as it has at BR, not so much because of the weight of expectation, but, basically, because there is now absolutely zilch happening out on the pitch to add to the matchday experience. In other words - there is no sense of expectation. If we're focussed on anything during the course of the 90 minutes we presently have to endure, it's whether or not we're going to be able to manage a forward pass.

Basically, I'm tempted to add that there is probably more atmosphere on the Moon these days than you're likely to experience down at Bloomers.

Seems to be a common problem, Klopp complaining about the atmosphere at Anfield, Gary Neville also said he hadn't heard it so muted for a Liverpool v United game.
I think there's a few reasons for the deathly atmospheres, our playing style may contribute to some extent but it's not the only factor.
Personally I think it's gone downhill since a significant number of people would regularly write on here what a fantastic, noisy set of supporters we are. We've got quieter and quieter from then on.

There is no prospect of us going up this year - we are nowhere near good enough. We are to inconsistent and there are 7,8 or 9 teams who are better than us. Besides this side/squad is a million miles from a Championship side. We need another two maybe three windows to develop this squad and built a team that can not only win on a consistent badis in Lg1 but that could make the step up and with three or four quality additions consolidate in the Champ.

Poor that Oakley -booth is getting it . We gave Maxwell shit and he now plays in a division higher ,we gave CJ shit and now most of us are happy he has signed a new contract and now we are giving shit to a young lad who has had limited experience in our league games . We should be ashamed of ourselves.

Have you actually been to a live game?
We are regularly scoring 3 or 4 goals in the past month or so. We’ve struggled against some clogger teams but banged in a load of goals in the other games.

Most teams fans would kill for that level of entertainment.

I totally agree with you, CL, and just do not get where this notion of us not being entertaining comes from.

I get how it started and gathered momentum at the start of the season when we were party to several consecutive 0-0 draws but the last couple of months have seen a goal fest and yet this tired perception of us being boring persists.

Clearly it's starting to piss the manager off and good on him for biting back at some dickheads in the West the other night.

Absolutely zilch other than us being one of the highest scorers at home, but keep pushing.

Edit: We're the highest scorers at home and 4th overall. We've scored 5 more than Barnsley at home and they've had a 7.

I don't think we could do what other teams are doing which is consistency.
Interesting that of the teams that went up last season Sheff Wed are doing the worst.
