If you are blaming Appleton then you are an idiot

Can think of at least 4 games last year of the top of my head where he was excellent - Reading away, Boro home in the cup, Sheff Utd away and Hudds away.

Given Critchley barely played him and he was straight out of non-league that's a reasonable return.
Didn't think he was that good at Huddersfield in a midfield 2 if I'm honest

I thought for 45 mins we played as well as we had ever done under Critchley before it all went tits up.

He was at very least 'competent'

I ain't pretending that Carey is the man to change everything - he just seems the logical go to ATM

As a 10 I think he's OK but needs to get involved more, will come with experience

He has plenty of time to improve

And yet Appleton says it as it is and gets slated by the avftt masses🙁 just weird
I've no issues with Appleton saying it as it is, it's when he starts blaming the players publicly I don't agree with. He has form for doing this at other clubs. Maybe he does it to look for a reaction, but when he starts talking about how he wishes he could get out there and show them what a 'Michael Appleton team is', it's utter nonsense, he seems to think he was a better player than he actually was.

He needs to focus on making our players better, getting them more organised and drilling a system into them that gives them the confidence to go out and play with freedom. I have been extremely critical of him and will continue to be until he starts justifying that 4yr deal and jump from an average L1 manager to one worthy of that position at a Championship club.

Where has he been blaming the players publicly and what form for this has he?

If its been rife and in the public domain I'm struggling to find it yet you've mentioned the same thing several times on this very thread

I was critical of Critchley for his tinkering at the end of last season. I also voiced my concerns early on, on that occasion I was proved wrong. NC in the main did a brilliant job, promotion and a solid Championship finish.

I'm going to leave the Appleton comments for now, the thread asked if he was to blame, I stand by my thoughts, he is partly to blame for our poor form/performances.

Yeah played well in 4 games in your opinion. IBut what has he done? Is 1 or 2 goals. I don’t think he is good enough at championship level.

Mate if you think he is good enough then that’s your opinion but I’ve watched him the same amount of time and I believe his performances bar a couple of decent ones haven’t been good enough.

Personally thought he was excellent that day at Hudds. Given he was being asked to play Critchs normal withdrawn midfield and a more creative one when in possession.

So a manager who stands in his technical area with his arms folded for 90 minutes and shows no emotion whatsoever is not to blame.
It is his job to motivate players and he clearly isn’t doing his job.
All this about injuries etc is bull shit. There is clearly a lack of motivation when the players go out on the pitch so it is down to the manager
He can only have so long to prove his worth and IMO his time is up.
He can’t even hold a job down anywhere which speaks volumes.

Your last sentence is rubbish. 3 years at Lincoln ( play off final) and 3 years at Oxford ( promotion and a decent follow up
season) He then left of his own accord to join Leicester City.

I think that one word "partly" sums this whole thread up.
Starting at the top with Simon Sadler all the way down through the hierarchy everyone is partly to blame when things go wrong but equally should take the credit when things goes well.
No one person is responsible. (Not even Owen because Karl hepled).
