Great to see supposed ‘third world’ countries doing so well.
Also great to see us with a fit talented squad of players that aren’t all knackered after a full domestic and European league season. 👍
It's a win win

I think it also helps us that virtually our whole squad plays in the same league

Must admit I've really enjoyed seeing some of the massive crowds the non European teams have taken to Qatar

Massive success this World Cup so far

Great to see the Germans out as well

Not many of the rainbow armband teams left btw

Maybe it’s recency bias m, but this seems to be the best, most enjoyable World Cup I’ve watched in 20 years.

What does that last point mean?

Politics aside I've enjoyed our games mostly, the rest I only want giant killings. Same as usual. We're statistically winning , what's not to like.

We can't sort out the corruption around FIFA on here (including England by the way - Nobber Beckham in particular loves sniffing round the arse of the money men). We can point to the dishonesty of the likes of Neville, Scott and co who slag it all off but still suck up the money, and we can draw attention to some disgraceful abuses that take place in a supposedly modern world. What no-one can deny is the excitement this World Cup is bringing against all odds. Performance and results-wise, the most egalitarian World Cups ever. Would be good to see an African nation or Japan make the semis before Brazil win it on pens.

I loved the 1990 and 1994 World Cups, probably more to do with my age at the time but without watching too much of this one, the final group games have been very dramatic and I can't remember any classics in the last 20 years.

where's robbie and one or two others? 😉

In defence of the great man, I think it's fair to say that when he said what he did, I would have been struggling to call it a classic.

I think I said at the time that it wasn't the best or the worst.

Of course Welsh Phil knew that it was already a classic and that it would get even better. :)

I bet you are bored of being right on here Phil ?

Can I ask the AVFTT World Cup expert and voice of reason, do you not think it's about time that North Korea got a go at staging the World Cup finals ? :)

Yes, so far a great World Cup, some exciting performances, up and coming teams showing the big boys, they’re not anymore and fans from different countries bringing colour and fun with them, instead of anger and fighting.

Best 5 things about this World Cup in no particular order

- the shocks
- the standard of football from nearly every nation (except Wales and Qatar)
- the crowds from countries you don't often see in such numbers
- England looking like they can win it
- the egg on the faces of the people who just wanted to moan about It and bring politics into it

Yep agree with that and for me the politics should have been resolved 12 years ago, but what this WC has shown is the the greed and double standards of the likes of Linekar, Beckham, Scott etc. They’ve certainly done themselves no favours!

Absolutely 5 strong reasons why everyone is talking about the football.

I’ve really enjoyed the support some of the countries who I don’t associate with footy have brought. The Saudis and the Iranians were going wild in the stands and signing loud too.

Bang on, that first show was embarrassing and will be looked at in years gone by for the nonsense it was

BBC bellends

And to think some of this site were lapping up the propaganda

The girl in the Croatia dress?

It’s been decent, football is entertaining, Qatar have put on a good show but I still think it’s stinks of outright corruption that it’s in Qatar in the first place, playing in Nov/Dec is wrong and the fact it’s such a small country with one city is disappointing, however if my personal circumstances were different I would have loved to have gone. Planning for USA ‘26 already

that’s why all the politics and strong reactions we're seeing at this stage should have been resolved 12 years ago!

Some of the football has been really good and I’ve watched more of this tournament than I have in the past because of the kick off times. The Mrs doesn’t seem to mind as much as we can squeeze an episode of something in after the 19:00 game, she might change her tune when extra time and pens start entering the equation.

I’ve started watching the FIFA documentary on Netflix for a bit of balance, I knew already they were bent but bloody hell!

Warming to this one, especially the less fancied teams that are not reliant on tippy tappy (boring) football.

One thing missing so far is the extracarricular plastic chair tennis matches between fans.

To be fair, I thought I’d hate it….. especially with all the negativity surrounding it ‘beergate, gaygate, humanrightsgate’ etc, etc

Take those things away and it really has been pretty good. Nice to see the underdogs putting on a performance and seeing some bloody good football! Germany out! The icing on the cake for me

Have to agree with Phil on this ,had my doubts but seeing the no fear of the so called smaller clubs attitude for me has made it so good Morroco brilliant, Cameroon, also Saudi, Japan loved every minute so far we are doing okay as well 😜 .
