Interesting stat re Liverpool area return to games

I read an interesting snippet comparing Liverpool and Everton's fans returning to games.

"Liverpool are planning to seat supporters on the Kop as they welcome fans back to Anfield for the 1st time since March for Sunday's Premier League game v Wolves

With Liverpool put into Tier 2 with the government's new COVID-19 restrictions, up to 2000 fans from the Liverpool City region are permitted to attend the game at Anfield. Liverpool currently have 5,832 season ticket holders with a Liverpool postcode, which restricts those travelling from other regions to Sunday's game. Everton by contrast, have 25,647 season tickets holders with a Liverpool postcode ,meaning that it will be enormously more difficult for local Toffees hoping to see a glimpse of their new signings such as James Rodrigues in the flesh before the turn of the year.

Only those who were successful in the ballot were notified on Tuesday and tickets will go on sale on Wednesday at 3pm until Thursday at 8pm"

Now I don't know if this is true, but if it is it is very interesting and raises a couple of further points from me.

1. I wonder how many STHs we have that don't have FY postcodes, and whether that will affect tickets when we have our return
2. I would love to see the similar comparison figures for Manchester with Man Utd and Man City

I am very surprised that Liverpool only have 6,000 STHs with a Liverpool postcode.

Where did you read this? That seems outrageous that Liverpool would only have 6k season ticket holders from Liverpool, absolutely hilarious if true but it seems far too low

Just done some research and apparently its true.

Liverpool only dish out 27,000 season tickets for their 53,000 seater stadium so they can make more money selling tickets to tourists. Compare that to Everton's 31k season tickets to their 39k capacity. The infamous Liverpool quote that they now brand makes sense "THIS MEANS MORE" - more money!

I guess the Evertonians are right, Liverpool is blue.

I would hazard a guess that if Blackpool comes out of tier 3, nearly everywhere else will too. I can see a drop to tier 2 for the lead up to Xmas and then back up to tier 3 in the New Year.

I'm not. Some people did a survey years ago which was less scientific, basically asking people as they went in what the postcode was. Overall it came out that Liverpool had few locals supporting them compared to other top flight sides.

I don't know the sample size for validity.

I've always said Liverpool are the biggest team for armchair supporters up North as I see more Liverpool shirts than any others. I'd imagine united for abroad?

But let's not upset the media myth about Liverpool being the best fans in land.

Without looking, I'd say Burnley will be the team with the highest percentage of locals in the Prem.

Never had an FY postcode in my 50 years supporting the Pool.

I think we have quite a widespread fanbase due to the lack of job opportunities on the Fylde leading to many to leave, plus the success of the team in the 50s meaning there is still a remnant of those glory hunters from back then😉

Have you seen the deprivation in the Anfield area? I can't imagine anyone in their £60,000 2 bed terrace will be able to associate with footballers being paid £250,000 a week playing a game across the road.

All the big clubs are no longer spiritually attached to their local community due to this obscene divide.

Depends how you paint it, I guess. Burnley Borough is quite small. Go ten minutes in any direction you’re into Pendle, into Rossendale, interbred etc

Yet at one time Joe Fagan lived in the shadow of Anfield in an unprepossessing semi detached house.

Premier League wages have risen 3200% since the start of the EPL. I wonder what the percentage for the area around Anfield is in the same period?

And another thing....are masks to be worn when watching pitch side? I ask cos the number of supporters from Sefton area watching Southport the other night who were not wearing masks was very very high. And shouting and cheering. And roughly 10 of those in the crowd will be carrying the virus (1 in 200 approx?)

Yep, I got told that stat about season tickets a couple of days ago. Very surprising.
