Ipswich Town v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 06.02.21

I like a manager to come out after a defeat and tell it as it was. Listening to Critchley after the game he was calm, and seemingly unfussed,by a 10th defeat out of 24 games. He says things like..."Should have done better... could have done better..needed a bit more quality..If we'd have got the 1st goal you'd have seen a different game..blah de blah" Same old soundbites after every poor performance delivered in a passionless monotonous tone. Why can't he say we were rubbish second half (Neil Warnock style) and tell us the players had been given a rollicking and know in no certain terms that there needs to be a massive improvement come Tuesday.
I'd feel a bit better if he did that. Every manager has their own ways, but I'm starting to get that creeping doubt that Critchley is not up to job. Good qualifications and obviously knows the game but a man manager and motivator? I'm not so sure.

And that's why I rarely bother to listen to post match interviews.

Disagree with nonsense about Husband and Kai Kai. First half, all our threat came down the left and involved the two players. Second half we were just cack.
I do think the holiday period is over for NC and fans are looking at him as this team/squad, should be doing better.
As i said earlier, there is a very strong case for stating, both Bowyer and McPhillips did much better with less.

Pool's last 6 league games.
P6 W2 D1 L3.
Also 10 defeats in 24 games.
13th a mediocre lower mid table outfit.
Nobody can really argue with this. It's not good enough. We are not entitled to promotion, but we should at least be progressing! If the football was more attacking/exciting to watch it would go a long way. I'm not calling for Critchley out but if things don't get much better by the end of the season then it should be considered.

How many players are out ?
probably too many
I am sure NC is as miffed as we are - I question some of the players - that was a point or 3 on a plate - the sooner we get key players back the better
We’ll finish where we are this season and Burton after today WONT be a walk over - if you can keep a clean sheet v Hull and eat them with a win since when you can beat us too

It's a 50/50 game. Will the clueless one select the right team and tactics, who knows?

Maybe 62years is more negative than me or enlightened but I too am beginning to have some doubts over NC.
Why not start Simms - two inexperienced you centre halves.
Short corners - why given we had two great chances from crosses?
Ward instead of Virtue - my choice - better balance.
Clock is ticking.

And lets not forget Madine didn't appear to be part of NC's plans, at the start of the season. He was forced to change when plan A didn't work.
I'm not desperate for a change, but results need to improve on a regular basis. His players need to start showing a little more character, especially when we go a goal down.
We've got key players out and have 6 points from the last 3 games. But i do think people are starting to look a little harder in the managers direction.

Last 7, won 2 drawn 2 lost 3. Mediocre coach and players.

I have no idea whether NC is a good manager to be honest, what is irritating is that he always seems to have a plan based on how the opposition will play, can they not for once deal with how we play. Had a pal watching yesterday and he just asked why we always go sideways and backwards with the ball, no one runs at and commits players, We are a boring outfit to watch, when we win it is acceptable is all.

A question I ask every match, it seems the forwards don't want to work to get in the box. Again I notice several times yesterday the ball holder had a chance to take the ball into open space for a cross into the box and it was pulled back to play sideways or back.

Yes, it is very disappointing. I'm not sure what happened to our defence yesterday they seemed to give the opposition too much space. Our attack was blunt and a constantly changing front two doesn't help. Madine is, of course a great miss. and the sooner CJ is back the better. Which indicates we haven't got strength in depth after all.

Also if you’re setting up for a defensive performance, don’t you have to be well drilled at set pieces in order to try and nick a point or 3. I’ve never seen a team in all my life have a corner with only 4 men in the box.. and nobody coming short. This is awful coaching

I think Ipswich got lucky this season with two games where we were well down on numbers and ideas.
