I read that they have refused to sing the national anthem ahead of the England match in protest at the treatment of women protesters in their country. This is miles away from the England and Wales teams' caving in to FIFA over the rainbow badge incident.

Qatar won't complain about that though being Sunni and Iran being Shia; anything which undermines Iran will be all good in their eyes.

Bet your bottom dollar if it was happening in another Sunni state, they wouldn't be able to do it.

Notwithstanding; I can't imagine them going back to Iran at the end of this World Cup.

totally different issues. One is to do with what's happening back in Iran and the other is to do with being allowed to compete in a world cup and for players being allowed to play football. Of course what FIFA and Qatar are doing/ have done doesn't sit right but they are separate issues.

I think I get that. 👍

From the Welsh FA

"Anybody who thinks the player can just take a red card like that, they don't really understand the psyche of a professional athlete who is going out to play the biggest moment of their lives.

"We didn't back down. We had to look at the sporting sanction that was there.

"We had said we would accept fines, whatever sanctions came, but when it turned at the very last moment to specific sporting sanctions that would have stopped our players taking the field of play potentially, that is a different thing. It was done so late."

I've no doubt that FIFA come out of this very badly.
