Is today a must win game?

More like amuse not lose

They have a host of newplayers we have a settled team
— — crowd need to be behind the lads from the off — dust down the drum and tonsils

Feels like it to me.

Summer of discontent. Losing our best coach for decades. Can’t attract any sort of player we want.

It’s critical for us to start with a win otherwise I can see certain sections of our support protesting again.
The first minute will define our season. We badly need to win the toss and retain possession for 60 seconds or we're down.

Not for me, but I can imagine that certain sections of our support will be planning some kind of mutiny if we don’t win and more importantly win in a free flowing and exciting style whilst playing an attacking 433 formation.👍

Well, we've started in reverse gear the last two seasons and all was good in the end ..... so no it isn't. For me it's more important that we work hard with a clear style of play.

Although, I'm pretty sure Appleton will defo not want to lose as some fans will not need much of an excuse to get on his back.

It's not a must win

But as with every football club, winning your first game will give the club a massive lift

We've lost no players, added four and no doubt add more before the close of the transfer window

Critchley is a decent coach if you like that style of football ( I certainly didn't, but that's just my opinion )

Dont need to win more important is to get the team playing attractive forward playing game not boring tippy tappy across the back

Appleton will definitely not want to lose, so I don’t expect all out attacking, free flowing football. Both teams will be cautious in the first half, unless there’s an early goal and then things might well change.

100% a must win game . Any manager worth his salt will have targeted games to win at home and without doubt this is one of those games. If we are to be in a dogfight come the end of the season these are a big 3 points to play for today . Not only that it will breed confidence not negativity. COTP !!!!

definitely a must win . . . for Reading, as they're going to need every point they can get this season

Not a big game for us, apart from the sticking it to Pince aspect, but come the end of the season we may look back on it as 3 points that made the difference between being promoted automatically or via the Play-Offs

This is a little extreme but it really is all about getting on the front foot. Hopefully Apple will recognise this. He’s big into the weights now and hopefully that’s made him an aggressive thinker. The only way to turn the crowd on his side is with positive football. Otherwise we might see the sort of impromptu uprising witnessed at Derby several years ago. The main agitators of that uprising are still in the stands and they have influence.

I've heard that Sadler will have all fire alarms heavily guarded by stewards as a precaution

A must win no, however 3 pointers will be very hard to gain this season and this is definitely a fixture that gives us a great chance to earn that 1st win anything less will be a big disappointment

Absolutely amust win. If we don't win today then we are automatically relegated and the next 45 games are not even worth playing.

I'd go as far to say that if we are not 2-0 within 5 minutes we should be demanding the removal of Simon Sadler and having him replaced with someone more suitable such as a local estate agent.

Of course not, there are always weird and wonderful shorelines on the first day of the season.

It's a "I must keep the shirt" day

Important, but not must win. I'm intrigued to see how much more exciting it will be given that some have said Critchley was too cautious and boring.

I thought the consensus of the board was that Critchley played boring, negative football and it was a blessing he jumped ship, as he would have certainly took us down...

Much depends on whether Simon Sadler does his 5am walk this morning along the prom spying on caterers and hoteliers as they go about their busines, and whether he did the same route or not. One false turn and you can end up in a relegation cul-de-sac with only one way out.

Winning the first game can be a massive confidence boost for the club as a whole. Losing at home and then having to get something away in the next game is never a good thing.

Of course it isn't. But as much as I back MA and his appointment I feel much depends this season on how quickly he adapts to realising how to get the best out of his players by getting the right formation. Ftom what I've seen pre-season 4-3-3 with Madine as a static target man doesn't work and is pretty ineffective. . But we shall see. So today is not a must win game but it could certainly give us some clues.

Really don't get all the must win or some might turn.

Get a grip.

Appleton needs full support and all pool fans should give it.

Not with all these conditions, people like to claim how good a fans we are, let's see, you don't threaten to turn if you don't get what you want.

The reason we do well is unified support.

Luckily it's just some moaners on here the support I'm sure we'll be top notch.

Support Appleton and the team, a divided fanbase gets nowhere.

I used to say getting a draw on the opening day was acceptable. Just to get on the board. Today gives us a great chance of starting with a win. Hopefully that happens. But today is not a must win at all.

I was impressed with the way Burnley closed down Huddersfield, not allowing them time to settle on the ball.
Kompany learning from the master at City!
I would love us to play a similar way this season under Appleton
Last season when teams did similar to us we couldn’t string 3 passes together

Not a must win for me - we did the double over this lot last year so it will be interesting to see what the same group can do and how Reading have changed.

Not a must win but it would be great to get off to a good start. We've had a bit of a mare preseason with Critchleys unexpected departure and an indifferent transfer process (that's being kind!) to fly out of the blocks with a win and a half decent performance would settle the nerves and give Appleton a lift in the right direction with the doubters.
It's a tough league and the sooner we get points on the board the better.

The consensus is that this is a game that we need to win. If we do, then I’ll have every confidence that WhosApp is the man to lead us to promotion glory.
Lose and it’s a relegation dogfight without firm action from the board.

Not a must win but nice to get off the mark, especially at home and the first game for the new management. Forest lost their first game last season. Bournemouth and Fulham had draws. Only another 45 games to go.

FFS….. we have some right ‘Veruca salts’ as fans! Lip out, stamps feet because we haven’t landed a signing!
Entertaining anyway 😁

Did Forest get off to a good start last season . . . ? 🤔 Where are they now . . . ? Lose and it’s not the end of the World.
