Italy v England Match thread

Nervous about this and the Ukraine game. We need to start the group well otherwise the pressure will mount on Southgate.He was outcoached in the Euro final by Mancini and that can't happen again. Looks like Phillips will start in midfield and his lack of minutes on the pitch is worrying. Hoping for a decent result tonight and no crowd trouble 🤞

Not Rice and Bellingham or are they playing all 3.
 
Pressure will defo be on Southgate if they don’t get a positive start from these 2 tough games. I think a lot of us assumed he would have stood down after the World Cup and personally I would have liked to have seen a more progressive manager in charge of a very talented group of players.

2 teams qualifying form each group means we really should go through but Italy & Ukraine will not be easy games by any means.
 
A really tough start, I read Italy have not lost a home Euro qualifier for 25 years or so but also England's record of 17 wins from 18 games in Euro qualifying is one to be admired, Italy do have a few of really good players missing in Chiesa, Immobile and Di Marco who would all be nailed on starters if fit, right now I'd quite happily take a point all day long from this one.

We've won twice there since 1961, but not in 25 years.
 
As long as Southgate doesn't play 5 at the back & 2 holding mid's. Oh hang on this is the cream of England sorry I forgot, we'll piss it against the Spaghetti munchers. 😂

Can't believe Maguire and Phillips picked, 535 minutes of EPL between them. What's happened to picking players in form 🙄

Slim pickings at centre half Dier of Spurs or Guehi- Palace or at a push Walker to choose from in the squad.
Then Gareth wanted to play two holders so Phillips or Henderson who is in and out of the Liverpool side.
 
Kalvin Phillips starts? No game time, no match sharpness a typical clueless, negative selection for me.

Hope he proves me wrong and is MOM, but I have serious worries that a player with so little game time in the PL can be as sharp as he needs to be in a game of this magnitude.
 
Was just about to say I don’t like the look of the ref already. Then commend England for a great move & shot from Bellingham. Looked down & we scored 😃
