It's always Huddersfield!

I was sitting thinking about the goal/none goal, on Sunday, last night and realised that Huddersfield -Blackpool games are often different from the normal flow of things.

We were the last team to play them at their old Leeds Road Stadium, and yes I was there.

They were the first team to play us when the new stands were opened at Bloomfield Road. Yes I was there.

Bully scored a golden goal against them winning the tie for us. Yes I was there.

It was them we were playing when the match was abandoned at the start of the protests. Yes I was there.

and now, of course that goal. I was watching on TTV.

I'm sure there must be other incidents that have happened between the two teams, so the list is open for you to add to them.

I recall Mark Taylor picking up a very bad injury at the old Leeds Road ground.
And a long time before he played for us I remember Junior Bent running rings around one of our full backs (Ginge?)

Yeh the Mark Taylor game it was pissing it down and we got let into the covered bit. We were noisy that day.

We won 3-1 at Huddersfield in 1968 on the last day of the 67/68 season and missed out on promotion on goal average because Villa scored a late own goal at home to QPR who duly won 2-1 and were promoted in second place. Two automatic places only. My older brother went to te game iirc.

His name was Bradley. Never forget it.

Our record defeat was against Huddersfield: 10-1, 13th December 1930

Played Huddersfield last game of the season in 1967/68 when we won 3-1 expecting to be promoted back to Div 1 at the first attempt. Only to lose out to QPR by 0.21 goal average after QPR won away at Aston Villa, courtesy of a Villa own goal. Our total of 58 points was a record for a team not to gain promotion, prior to the introduction of 3 points for a win.

First team we played on our return to Div 1 in 1970

All this up in arms business from Huddersfield fans about Sunday, and before that the abandoned game from our fully justified protest. I don't see them apologising anywhere for kicking it bang off on the first game of the 94/95 season when they were in in the South and West Paddocks.

Hereford Utd ???
Only went to Hereford once on a bright Saturday afternoon so that's not the game I'm thinking of.

99% sure it was Huddersfield but maybe it was just really foggy and didn't get abandoned. We were sat in the stand near the old open away end and couldn't see the other goal. Think it was probably a midweek sherpa van game or similar and there was only about 50 Blackpool fans there.

I was there for the 1968 and we were on the pitch celebrating with players until the dreaded late own goal at Villa.

Was there when Cappleton saved and it didn’t cross the line! They were awarded the goal. Sweet revenge on Sunday.

Hereford was at home. Lasted about 30mins and we were 1 up. Ronson daisycutter bottom left of the goal at the South Paddock. We won the rearranged game 2-1.

Same day Blackpool Borough were playing Leigh in the Challenge Cup semi final at Borough Park. Live on TV and the game was completed.

We went to that. Drive home was both icy and foggy, but it didn't get abandoned.

Hereford was at home. Won 2 1 eventually

I was there when a game was abandoned for fog (I think....is my more correct?)
Yeah, at Leeds Road. Was really foggy, couldn't see either end of the pitch. We wer in teh stand at one end. Ball came out of the fog and they scored. Then the ref abandoned it. Don't think it was a league match.

That was an Autoglass game, 14 Jan 1992, abandoned at half time, losing 1-0. Lost the replay on pens.

I wasn't there for the the Autoglass game, but seem to remember a similar icy/foggy night for an FA Cup match, we won 2-0 there and got Spurs in the 3rd round.

In 1968 I was hitchhiking back to Lancaster University after the game when the Blackpool team coach came past me and the players looked as distraught as I felt.

It was at home.

Lots of happy memories of Huddersfield. Bullys golden goal, a rearranged FA cup game after the snow where Super Trevor Sinclair scored? Once bought Graham Berry a pint in a pub before an uddersfield game, top bloke. I was also at the last game at Leeds road where had the seats up in a corner as the ground was rammed.

Wasn't it also at Huddersfield that we won an FA Cup reply knowing a home tie awaited against Spurs with Lineker, Gazza, Paul Stewart et al. I remember hugging a complete stranger on the terraces when we scored/won. Or maybe that was somewhere else? :)

Yeah, I mentioned that FA Cup game above, that was a really cold foggy night.

Regarding the Hereford abandonment, best I can find is this, which suggests 11th December 1976, according to the club match records, that would be the first time we ever played them. Looks like it was replayed 14th Feb 1977.

Hereford abandoned game.
