Jake Daniels on 5 Live

At the risk of upsetting anyone (apologies in advance), the only news I now want to hear about Jake, is that his career has finally taken off and he's now a regular member of our first team squad.
I kind of agree and I kind of don't agree, there's still a lot to do in that space and by coming out he's made himself the face of it all. I might be wrong, but he's the only individual who has come out in male football since in the UK. And the statistics show factually he isn't the only homosexual male in England/GB. Thus the more he speaks about it, helps normalises and it will help other people.

But I do get what you mean.

I don't think you would offend anyone unless they are an absolute woke.
In life now, there are many gays, both men and women.
I work with two gay blokes, my wife works with two gay women. They work with straight people.

In the modern world, for the vast majority of people, a colleague, friend or a passer by being gay is not a thing that raises an eyebrow anymore.
They are and always will be just normal people doing their job or going around their general business.
We are all human beings at the end of the day.

I think the thing is that he inspired others to make that step and tell their parent and who knows might give someone the confidence to do the same. Of course he will be judged long term for his football abilities but his strength of courage to make that decision to come out so publicly was both brave and commendable. Plus am proud he's a Blackpool player.

Some bang on posts here and i dont think anyone is really wrong in what they've said. The chances of there being just one gay player in the Premier league let alone the whole 92 or wider pyramid are infinitesimally tiny. He did an amazing thing and he's looking to get his career on track. Proud of another Blackpool first and looking forward to seeing him get on with the football 🧡 👍

I've no problem with Jake's sexuality. It's his choice, but I do feel he's been used and exploited by those pursuing a certain agenda and other factors, which has probably been to the detriment of his career development

He should keep his private life private,I don’t wanna know he’s dating someone old enough to be his dad tbh

Whereas in the women's game it's the complete opposite. More likely to have one coming out as straight . In many ways sexuality has evened up hugely in the last few years...poles apart in the funny old world of football

It’s a sign of the times when you say apologies in advance, if Ralf who works for me came out and said he was gay then upped his game and became more productive I’d be over the moon, he’s not done either so it’s business as usual unfortunately

Which will never happen because he’s not good enough and never will be. The sooner he leaves and finds an appropriate level the better.

Really want to see how JD gets on over the 2nd half of this season and next season.
Before his injury, he was looking a real talent.
Tbh I think he’s got more chance of breaking into the 1st team under Bruce than he did under Critchley (who given his background, was very reluctant to integrate the younger players).
He has absolutely no chance of making it at this level.

I don't understand why none of the cohort of gay male players have come out since Jake. Dozens of women players don't seem to have a problem.
