With Bardsley, whom I think he reported was the fastest developing youth prospect, and the apparent giant, Spinelli; maybe bringing in the suitably experienced Jones makes a lot of sense. Working in tandem with Banks, a veteran ‘keeper will help keep Grimshaw focused and help improve the kids. It’s about time we had a budding duo like West & Waiters or Burridge & Wood on the books, and, by the way, Wrexham have just re-signed a 40 year old.

Maxwell was abysmal and the decision to drop Grimshaw and keep him out by Appleclownshoes cost us our championship status alone.
The north turning on Maxwell was justified as just about everyone could see he was having a mare for a long time.
To try and have a pop at the north is frankly a bit shit as MA and Dino are to blame for keeping a clearly inferior man in goal when the facts and stats showed the best keeper was warming the bench for most of the season.
It was inevitable people would turn on him as he was shocking in most games.

Simon, I agree with many of your opinions on here and undoubtedly will continue to do so.
While we pay our money, we are entitled to our opinion.
However, there's no excuse for the North turning on any of our players, regardless of how poorly they play.
It's the fault of the manager for picking the player, not the player himself.
And it certainly didn't make him play any better did it. Erm? No it didn't.
You wouldn't accept abuse if it was given to you, and neither would I.
But are opposing players fair game? I'll leave the North to decide that.

Not sure I agree with that - Grimmy still let in 8 goals in those 6 games even though he kept 3 clean sheets - I think the defence was the reason we conceded so many goals and not Maxwell (that said I agree I'd have played Grimshaw but not sure he'd have picked up six points alone in the time the Dinosaur was here).

I think the midfield was our biggest weak link, that and Appleton and McCarthy's selections/tactics. It comes as no surprise that we seem to be linked with a lot of holding midfielders. If we can sign Norburn and get him building a partnership with Trybull, I suspect our defence will look an awful lot better.

When Critch was last here, I had Grimmy on the list of players we would sell for decent money. A young English keeper ex Man City performing well in the Championship.

However once Critch went and out defence became woefully exposed by the lack of a combative midfield Grimmy ended up carrying the can inexplicably.

You can have the same answer I have done in the O’Donnell thread.

Although I prefered Grimshaw, there was not a great deal between them. However Grimmy is younger and will still improve more and I'm afraid Maxwell was not good in many of the games towards the end of the season.

The difference between them is Grimmy's clean sheet ratio at its worse was every 3rd game was a clean sheet and Maxwell's was every 10th game.
