January 2024 Transfer thread.

Ah u See — he is rated (but not necessarily by many of our ‘expert fans’ !)

That‘s the danger of the Window — it‘s not so much about whom u buy itsessential to keep your best
Rated🤣🤣🤣 by teams 4th and 2nd bottom of the championship.
10 and 12 places above Blackpool in the football ladder.
And he isn't the best at Blackpool by a long chalk.

I saw this article and I couldn't think of a better heading to share it under.

click bait nonsense, why would he want to be paying in L1 again next season with Huddersfield or QPR when he could be playing in the Championship with Blackpool

He's adapted very well to the wing back role. OK, he's not the best in the air or at tackling but his pace and willingness to track back are massive assets. He is such a confidence player though, he seems to have kicked on since our fans started getting behind him. Ultimately all players have a price and as he is in the last year of his contract it could easily be his agent spreading such rumours to get another deal out of us. I like CJ though, if the club can extend his deal I would be happy.

Sell, sell, sell…. £800k, or if Udders then £500k and we keep Rhodes.

TBF he has looked our main attacking threat this season but that says more about others and system we are playing than CJs footballing prowess!

These players so many seem to deride like CJ, Carey and Dougall were just fine in the Championship, not play off team material without a whole lot of luck but easily capable of keeping us there. Then Critchely did his quitting thing and a series of poor manager decisions were made resulting in relegation. This was not down to the players.

Are people serious with these half a million and up to 800k!! Valuations?

He's a L1 footballer with 6 months left on his contract, worth about 250k Max!!

Seriously you're in Dreamland if you think anyone would pay that kind of money for CJ or anyone else with same circumstances (contract, age etc)
Derby, Udders and QPR in bidding war in 2024, not 1994. And as I gather a 1 year extension option. So yeah completely serious.

We applied the one year etension this season, so he is out of contract next June and can go for nothing then.
Dougall, Ekpiteta, Virtue, Connolly, Husband, Lavery, Tharme and a couple of others also out of contract next summer and can leave for nothing

Only Hubby from that lot for me I would want to keep (and hope we keep). Ekpiteta’s best days are behind him and Casey is the natural (and better) upgrade. Lavery is to injury prone and not good enough, we need upgrades on Dougal and Virtue (Moxon at Carlisle is the one Critch seems to want as a replacement for one of them) and Connolly just needs to go full stop.

I said on another thread, it all depends which league we end up in next season. If it's League 1, which is very possible, we should be hanging on to Dougall, Husband and Marv. Lavery is one that depends on injuries, time to unload Connolly, Tharme and Virtue.

No there isn't a 1 year extension, he's in his +1 now so as I said he has 6 months left.

As for 2024 etc Player valuations have dropped since COVID, he's a decent L1 footballer with 6 months left on his contract, there are also very real and justifiable doubts about his ability at Championship level,

As for bidding wars, don't be silly, he's not the kind of player who people will pay over the odds for because of the aforementioned circumstances, they'd just move on to other targets if he was overpriced, not to mention the fact none of us have any idea if Any of those teams are in for him let alone all of them, it's a newspaper gossip column, not exactly famous for talking the gospel truth,

You're in cloud cuckoo land if you think he's worth even close to 500k, 250k absolute max!

No need to get giddy because you've had your first cocktail (starting a bit early aren't you? 😉)
Anyway Happy birthday 🎂.
Have you got that old Beatles classic on? 😁

What?! Ekpiteta and Dougall are two of our best players.

Completely different kind of players. We need to keep him. He's our main attacking threat in terms of assists.
Sure, but he could go for nowt at the end of the season. I think? Let's see what we get offered for him, if anything. And how he goes til January. Apter is playing on the right for Tranmere. Completely different seems an exagg when they are occupying the same part of the pitch, both crossing balls, both cutting in. And we have Gabriel too.

Can Apter defend? He's about a foot shorter.

If his league 1 standard (or better) goals, assists and the penalties he wins gets us into the Championship, he might not want to leave if we still want him, and we can afford to let him go for free with our blessing if not. IMHO.

Dougall was dreadful in the Chanp but granted has found his form in the last few games. Ekpiteta is the same, dreadful last season in the Champ and had a rocky start to this but has found his form in the last few games. Both have at least one big error per game in them and as good as they have been if we get promoted and want to at least consolidate in the Champ, we need upgrades.

Give over.
Dougall was very good under Critchley in the Championship. He was in the top 10 in the division for tackles won.
And Ekpiteta was the unanimous player of the year.
We can’t use last season as a stick with which to beat our best players.

I’d much rather sort out the contracts of players already at the club and secure their services such as. Cj Connolly lavery dale dougall ekpiteta virtue Tharme etc etc

It's down to CJ and the club whether he leaves or not.
And if he does go, he'll have been forgotten about in months.
Just like Yates, Thorniley and Bowler.

Any talk of standing still where the squad is concerned does worry me slightly. I’m not sure whether Critchley is trying to temper expectations, having perhaps done the opposite towards the end of the last transfer window.

If we are serious about promotion and survival in the Championship, then we must up the quality at every opportunity.

January doesn’t need to be about quantity fir us this time, but it would be naive to stand still imho.
