January 2025 transfer window.

Don’t like signalling players out,but we need 6-7 ( better than already at the club) to start with.
The club has collected too much dead wood, over previous windows.

Realistically cannot see very much happening in January it’s a very difficult and expensive window. Maybe 1 or 2 max (freebies or loans). Then at the end of the season a ruthless big cull is required, I would only look to retain a handful of this squad and look to rebuild. Then we can start to judge what SB is made of, this season is all about a reality check.

2 keepers, a Centre back, centre mid, 2 wingers and 2 strikers needed. All better than we have. Half can be loans.. let Tyrer and Baggot go back

A lot of outs and a lot of ins - the quality though might not be top notch.

Wingers are the priority for me. We’re too reliant on CJ and Apter and we have no cover. We could do with two really but that might be a bit of an ask.

I’d be happy with a Prem loan who can challenge and rotate with those two.

I’d also be looking at a centre half if we’re not going to get enough minutes out of Baggot.

With the keepers I’m hoping that Tyrer can prove himself to be the undisputed number one in the next few weeks. If he doesn’t we need to bring someone in.

Two or three decent signings is the minimum requirement.

A new keeper and at least one winger is the priority, given it's January anything after that is a bonus. This season is a write off, we aren't going down but the play offs seem out of reach. We're still getting outmuscled in midfield which is a worry but that could be due to formation. What is it with managers with rigid formations at the Pool?

Poor Marv - at Hibs I think, with his old boss NC heading the upside-down table, at Hearts.
With NC at the helm the words of Bill Shankly come to mind ... they're bottom and they'll take some shifting.

I hope we see some significant changes but the January window isn’t really the time to be rebuilding a squad (not that I trust the current recruitment team to be able to sign the right players anyway)

Personally think they’ll be little change, couple of loans in perhaps if we still have some. How are we going to shift Fletcher, Thompson etc. Do we have money available? Things ain’t gonna change in one window.
We are in a right mess due to not potting Critchley last season.
Prove me wrong Sadler!

Absolutely no ITK but I'll suggest that Tyrer goes back, Thompson goes out on loan and Gabriel is sold. Inwards, we'll get a new loan keeper, a permanent midfielder and an older, experienced, loan striker.

According to the Gazette, Steve Bruce has not yet discussed any incomings during the January window. With a fully fit quad he is happy with what he has got, plus cover on the wings!

Where's that story, couldn't find it whilst looking through they aids of a website.

Edit: They are looking at "1 or 2" but not talks to clubs underway.

A first/second choice to Tyrer.

Winger who can play both sides.

A right back.

A centre mid who has a good engine and can get around the park.

That's the bare minimum Kirt.
If we aspire to climb out of L1, we need a complete rebuild.
If due to costs & a lack of incoming finance, our club don't have that aspiration, then we need enough players to play SB's way and consolidate in L1.

We aren't climbing out of L1 this season.

We have real core issues at this club and a lack of direction being provided by the owner and his senior leadership team.

I could write a big long post about it but that'll detract the thread.

I agree we won't climb out of L1 this season Kirt.
I'm concerned that due to lack of finance, planning and forward thinking with regards to the playing squad, we might have to settle for being a L1 club period.
We're a million miles away from being able to sustain a position in the ever strengthening championship.

As I said earlier in the thread - I reckon lots of ins and outs but… there won’t be any significant investment. He’ll want frees and loans to be able to break even. He wants to sell up quickly so he won’t be spending money in January. Avoiding the drop will do fine for SS

The hope is that any new owner, if a deal is close, would fund the window. Belokon did this before actually signed a deal. I think he became a partner in the February after a bouncing January window.

Keeper, experienced defender (not bothered about position, just need a leader back there), and a winger for both sides are essential

Realistic transfer targets, all out of contract this summer:

GK. Joel Coleman - Bolton
CB. Lewis Monsamat- Lincoln
RB. Luke Matheson - Bolton
RW. Jordan Graham - Orient
CM. Callum Camps - Stockport
LM. Tarique Fosu - Northampton
