January Oncomings and Outgoings?

We certainly need a replacement for Wintle if we can't hold on to him although Critch might see Virtue as his replacement.
The need for a creative, goal-scoring mid-fielder has been discussed many times but if we play 4-4-2, with 2 holding mid-fielders I'm not sure where that player fits in unless you re-label him a winger but with the possible emergence of Dale, the return of a fully functioning CJ we might be fully stocked in that position.
If Simms is available it would be foolish not to go for him then we would look really strong up front with Lavery, Madine, Simms and Yates.
That's a mouth watering front four if we bag Simms.

I think Critchley clearly likes a big squad and options to counter injury, suspension, form and opposition. Those who have barely kicked a ball are likely to be offloaded, if possible, whether that be loan or permanently. Bez, Sarkic, Nuttall, Howe are some of those which need to find another chance somewhere else.

As for incomings, I'd be over the moon with Wintle permanent and Simms. I honestly think it is a mild tinker needed given how well Dale and Carey did at Reading.

There are many really good opinions on this thread 👍 with many posters hoping for a promotion push. IF we were to be in with a shout at the end of the season, that would be awesome in our first season in the Championship.
We will face many difficult teams, with excellent payers and we're bound to hit a tricky patch/not get the run of the green, where we'll drop points. My target for the season has always been to finish outside the bottom three and that remains, anything above that will be a bonus.

Antwi isn't up to it, Virtue is a question mark, Stewart hasn't managed more than 1 game in a run this year, Connelly is a defender.

That leaves Kenny as a first choice nailed on starter.

We've got loads of attacking mids and wingers and we rarely play a formation that demands an AMC.

We need Wintle or a replacement for Wintle.
In my view this is how it will play out. The club want Simms either on loan or preferably permanently....hence why we have left a spot in the 25 man squad. If we get Simms then TJJ goes back to Arsenal...freeing up another space. They will try for Wintle permanently and go in again for Cameron Brannigan at Oxford. If they get Wintle and Brannigan that's a 25 man squad which going forward for me spells the end for Ward who's contract is up in the summer. Also can't see how Vitrue gets in the squad never mind the side. For me we have extended Virtue's contract to look after him...get fit by the end if the season loan him out next year and them he goes on a free with football under his belt. As for Sarkic, Lubala, Nuttall and Howe...no one wanted them in the summer so why would they be wanted in January when they have not played for at least 6 months!

That's how I'm thinking. Sign Ellis if possible, make Dale permanent, hold on to Wintle, and sign another midfielder to rotate with Dougall and Wintle, given that Ward and Virtue are long term recoveries and Stewart never stays fit for more than one game.

The club are long term admirers of Simms and its maybe no coincidence that he has not signed a new contract at Everton (not aware he has anyway...happy to be corrected if I'm wrong). For me he is the not target in January. Dale is a done deal so that is not an issue with Branigsn and Wintle the other priorities for me....do all that and we hVe am even stronger squad than we do now which is really strong.

Would love Wintle, but it could be a costly one considering he has a 3-year contract at Cardiff.

I did hear that he prefers to be closer to home than at Cardiff though.

It´s really awesome to be able to say this: We are in a position where we can bring 2 or 3 interesting players that can help and try for a play off push or promotion next year (given the youth in the squad) and to be able to not buy "in a hurry" the odd outcast player is a relief and a statement of intent.
Having said that, i think as those who stated above, that we should try and bring ellis on a perm deal, and a ball winning/box to box mildfielder.
After those objetives are fullfiled it would be interesting if we can bring a Cameron Brannagan/KDH/Other wow singing, but nothing more (considering no one comes for our star players), but it's not really that necesary.
About outings, TJJ, Lubala, Sarkic, Howe, Nuttall off.
Really exciting times this

Jeez man. Listen to sign this fella, sign that fella, get in Simms, Wintle and Brannghan on full time.deals

This positive talk unheard of for most Pool fans

Luke Garbutt is a midfielder by trade. I don’t think that he’s played there this season for Pool, maybe not last season either.

Has a 3-year contract with Cardiff but there has been stuff going around that he prefers to be closer to home than at Cardiff.
Cardiff picked him up on a free, making a quick profit for a player who wants to leave may help whoever their new manager is in January. I'd be delighted if Wintle stayed, he oozes class and is someone who rarely has an off day.

Why don't we just leave it to Critch?
He seems to be doing ok so far 🤷‍♂️
Because this is a footie discussion forum where Blackpool fans, on this particular thread, want to give their opinion on who they'd like to see in or out of the squad and what player in their opinion can provide cover in different positions. I don't believe that anybody is actually under the illusion that what they say is going to influence the people that make these decisions but as supporters we like to say what we think. I can only assume that you never give an opinion on anything that's not under you direct control? 🙂

Just as an aside, would your drop Marv or Keogh for Ballard?

I think we will get another couple of exciting loan players in Jan who are not currently on our radar. No offence to TJJ but our league position and quality will mean better youngsters available to us in Jan

Didn't Connelly come on for Dougall for the Preston game?
Briefly, yeah. I still can't see him being selected from the start to play centre mind regularly. Coming on as a midfield spoiler for 10 minutes when ahead, yeah, grand!

A ball-winning, incisive passing, goal scoring midfielder. Like Bryan Robson or Graeme Souness. Not thick on the ground admittedly!

Wintle is desperate to stay, doesn’t want to return to Cardiff as he wants to be back in the NW. Dale to be made permanent. Back in for Branagan hopefully and possibly a move for the midfielder at Dundee ??? Name escapes me !!!

Howe Sarkic and Nuttall - god knows. Lubala - complicated

He definitely wasn't firing at the start of the season. I wouldn't write him off yet but he's got work to do to get back in. A Matty Phillips month somewhere might do him a lot of good, but is that even possible with the way loans work now?
I don't know. I know some of the kids have gone on month long loans outside the league, but within it, I have no idea.

If Ballard was ours, yeah, I probably would because obviously, he'd have capacity to develop into an absolute monster with more games and more challenges but as a loan, no chance because Keogh has outplayed him this year and I'm not leaving him out to develop a player for another club.

AFAIK players are allowed to move to non-league clubs on loan, but anywhere in the league is only allowed during the transfer windows.

It's a big problem for injured players, they struggle to get the game time to properly regain fitness at their parent club, but can't drop down a league unless they're willing to be there for 4 months or so.

I think it's part of the reason why we ended up getting Dougall, he was well liked at Barnsley, at least by the fans, but he had a bad injury towards the tail end of the 2018/19 season then struggled to get back into the team, possibly with some other injury problems as well.

There's a second keeper getting on the bench ahead of Simms at Everton. What does the man need to do?

I saw suggestions on one of the Everton forums that he was injured again, seen with his foot in a cast/boot, he hasn't been playing for the U23's either which would seem to support that.

Are you thinking of Jeando Fuchs from Dundee united?
Apparently the lads a bit special according to Dundee United fans and they’ve had their fair share of talented youngsters over the years. Would be an exciting signing if we got him in. Has a good pedigree too and a current international.

What I'd like to see is us sign Wintle and Dale permanently, and bring in another striker and centre mid. Simms would be perfect - league one defenders had absolutely no answer to him last season and I really could see him being exceptional if he had another year under Critchley. Then we're rumoured to be after Fuchs, and actually bid for Brannagan so it wouldn't surprise me if we went back in for him.
We definitely need another centre mid if only because we constantly have injury problems with the ones we have, as good as they are.

I'd forget Simms now, he is struggling with injury. I think we need one more up top though. And cover in midfield, ideally someone who can play across the line.

I think that so far it looks like recruitment has been very good indeed.

Cheers, I thought that was the case.

No doubt the new system has fixed a massive problem that definitely existed but no one can tell you. Young players getting too much experience?

Dale I think is already agreed, he only came on loan because we couldn't sort the paperwork out in time.

Brannegan I think has a release clause in his contract, so as long as we meet that we can sign him if we want.

Wintle, I guess it depends on Cardiff's plans for him, they might be happy to simply take a quick profit on him, although I can see them asking silly money for him, hopefully we can hang onto him for the second half of the season but if not I'm sure there are other options out there.

Re. Wintle - read somewhere (I think) that he hasn’t settled down in Cardiff and asked for the move. Hopefully if the player speaks to Cardiff and we can put a sensible and fair offer to them it could happen in January. Whoever ends up managing them likely doesn’t know the lad, won’t have had chance to work with him and likely wants to bring their own players in come January. It could work in our favour
