Jerry replacement

So now the inevitable seems like its about to happen any day now who could we realistically get to replace him? Surely we want someone of a similar mould to jerry when we first bought him. Young, energetic, bit of pace and knows where the goal is.

Any serious suggestions? Let say we have around £4mil budget from jerry sale/transfer budget?

The only one I can think of is Aaron Collins from Bristol Rovers, he is young and scored goals for Newport and did well for Bristol Rovers last season, also can play LW as well where he played a few games for Bristol Rovers last season.

We will not be spending £4m on a replacement- my guess it will be someone from a Prem academy we can buy and develop or the lad from Ireland we were linked with.

Wether it’s £3m or £4m I’d be shocked if we spent it all on one player.

I think we’d be looking for 3 or 4 players for that amount.

Even then I’m not convinced we’d spend the whole Jerry fee like we didn’t when Bowler and Critchley (compo) both went.

SS is a very shrewd owner and keeps hold of the purse strings. 😮🫣

We've been linked with Mark Harris by a couple of people this week. Was let go by Cardiff last season. Not exactly inspiring if that's true.

We’ve proven by buying Jerry himself that you don’t necessarily have to go out and spend millions for the replacement, however it would be nice to see this money reinvested via transfers unlike Bowler and Critch money.

My guess is we'll be spreading this money on 3 or 4 players of £500k-£750k each, all young (23 or lower I'd guess) with resale potential in a couple of years. It's the model we're following and it's probably the one that gives us the best chance of us progressing, as long as we can source the right players. That's the big 'if', and is very likely the main reason Sadler brought back the man responsible for recruiting the player we're about to make a multi-million pound profit on.

That worked out so well last season.

Do you mean shrewd as in tight as cramp?

We could be bringing in somone from Ireland, we obviously have scouts out over there and could use the training trip for critch to speak to someone in person.

Blow it all on Bowler. Offer Forest their money back. A fit happy Bowler playing for a coach who believes in him would piss League 1.

Don't know who will be brought in, but I have full faith in the club to do it.

The narrative that we didn't spend the Bowler and Critchley money is nonsense.

We brought in Lyons, Thompson, and Callum Wright for fees last year.

Two of those players didn't turn out great (Lyons will and we will more than make our money back in the future), but people have to account for the fact that 1) We didn't receive all of the Bowler money up front. 2) Spending that money in January was always going to be difficult and some of it was undoubtedly spent bringing in McCarthy and the loans.

The spending of that money was done poorly, but we are in far more capable hands now.

Firstly we sold Wright for a fee. So drop that one.

Secondly if a club pays in instalments, then obviously a club buys in instalments. So drop that one too.

I agree about the poor spending. Idiots.

If we're buying in installments then is it not also fair to judge the club on its business over the span of when it receives those installments?

Harris will be his replacement - reads very similar to Jerry from Cardiff fans “always works his socks off” etc…

Maybe uninspiring? But horses for courses, Yates didn’t set the world alight until he arrived here.

It’s his personality and energy that will be the biggest loss.

Harris is favourite to go to Oxford isn’t he.

You have to remember that we have signed Pennington and Norburn, who are really good signings, Jerry was always going to go, it's up to Sadler to make amends for his fuck up last season and sign a few more decent players like these two. We also don't know how good Morgan is yet either.

I'm not angry about Yates leaving, he deserves to stay in the Championship. I'll be pretty cheesed off if the fee is only £2.5M but even more so if he isn't replaced and replaced soon. I dont want a loan, I don't want some untried 18yr old. This is a massive test for Sadler, if he wants to take positivity into the season we cannot be relying on Beesley and Lavery.

Yates was always going to go – proven at Championship level. Fee could be seen as low but if a decent player is coming to us as part of the deal (hopefully Kyle Joseph) then not too disappointed - quality finisher. Joseph and Lavery would be a real handful in L1

When Peter Clarke was sold I was gutted and thought we'd go straight down. We replaced him with Shaun Barker, and four months later with Ian Evatt.
Since then, even though it's always disappointing to lose good players, I never think of it as the end of the world because there are always equally good players out there available that just need a chance.

Very disappointing to lose JY, but we knew it was coming. Better to happen now than bang on the deadline day.
The fee looks disappointing, but we don’t really know the details.
Here’s hoping we get some decent signings in pretty quickly to compensate and steady nerves and get us ready for a good campaign.

I’ve still not recovered from hearing the news we’d sold Colin Morris.
