Jerry to the Tractor Boys

It was mentioned in the Rumours thread (page 16)
Feeling is that it's a BS story on a dodgy twitter account, I really hope so anyway.
Might well be a rubbish story but at the start of the week the club tweeted that there would be extensive content from the Scotland trip - yet we have only had Monday nights ‘episode’ . Could the lack of content be linked to Jerry’s move? Could Jerry’s move be where the Bashiru money has come from?

cannot see us looking to release more players whilst we haven’t got any incomings confirmed. Also hasn’t he been in Scotland making such a deal difficult 🤔

Can't see it. Ipswich are a big club but probably not what our board had in mind when they put him on a new longer contract last summer. Rotherham may also be due add-ons or a sell on % as well.

Would think the first priority would be to hope Appleton can make something of him and try to get him back in the shop window for a couple of mil net profit on having had him here. The Critchley way was good for points and staying in the championship but there wasn't a massive amount of attacking player development going on. Apart from sending everything through Bowler, who's on the shortest deal out of the lot.

Well its on one of their forums wether it’s bull shit or not.

This has to be bullshit. Why would we want to get rid of our best striker? He was fucked about by Quitchley all last season, he should have been a regular starter but he didn't suit Quitchleys dull tactics and you get the impression he's going to be now Appleton is here, so I just can't see it.

If there is something in it and it did happen then WTF?? We are hoping for new players to improve the squad, you don't get rid of your best striker especially as we can't seem to get a player in for love nor money. There are some players we could do with shipping out, he isn't one of them.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens between now and the end of the transfer window. Once we get to that stage we may be able to see better what is going on and if there are questions to be asked or not.

Yeh, who Yates formed a great partnership with last time Simms
Yes but IMO Simms and Lavery would be a GREATER partnership.⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽

You do have to ask in these situations "who would make it up?" unless it's a PNE fan on the wind up, or a Blackpool fan doing some subterfuge for some unknown reason. I wouldn't see an Ipswich fan randomly linking them with Jerry Yates (he's a star in our world but to Ipswich just a decent signing) .

Unless it's from one of those "throw out 50 random rumours a day" Twitter accounts, then I could see it being based on nothing.

I do get the feeling we're going to see some unexpected changes in the next few weeks but I hope this isn't one, still have faith in Jerry in the right system, that goal against Hudders away and the assist to Bowler at Stoke amongst a few other moments show he has the football ability to do well in this league.

Rotation doesn’t suit Jerry. That’s what’s held him back.
Clappers, for most of the season (when he has been in the starting XI ) he has either played up front as a lone striker or with a striking partner, so you can’t really class that as rotation. And if he can’t adapt to that then that is a sad indictment for a professional footballer.
I have said many times that you cannot fault the lads efforts but to cut it at this level he does need to improve.

No they wouldn’t, as Lavery has demonstrated repeatedly that he struggles to partner another striker. His link play is poor.

Isn't it refreshing nowadays how we buy good players and then other clubs want to buy them for much more a year or two later, as opposed to picking up freebies who don't do much with us and get freed again by us?
It would be if that was actually going on. There's only Critchley they've sold for money but he's not a player and they didn't actually want to.

They put Yates on a new contract after a career year and it's stagnated at best. There's got to be some envy looking at the deal Hull have just done with Brentford for Keane Lewis Potter, considering both came up together.

He’s a classic old style player who needs to play lots of games in a settled team in a settled position to get the best out him ie) sharp and dangerous. We saw that when he was ever present in the promotion campaign. He can do things with the ball at his feet in tight situations that no one else in the team can do. I think Switcherly rotated him myself.

He was literally rotated in and out constantly?

He is. Critchley wanted everyone playing to the same level, reading Ian Brunskill ghost writing his leaving speech. That worked for league points, but it didn't work for Jerry. One goal in 2022. A sympathy penalty when the game was won v Birmingham and he looked like he was about to burst into tears.

Not a great look for your big hope for a big sale coming off the back of the previous season and a new longer contract is it.

At best a loan this one, to try and put him in the shop window again for Jan. But it'd be better if he was doing it in the championship with the service. The lad can finish, just not when he's back to goal, on the bench or waiting for the 70th minute sub board to go up.

Have Ipswich honestly got £2m to spend on a player?

Plus he’s hardly going to accept a wage cut when he’s on a long contract so he’s going to want at least £10k or what’s the point of moving on from a Champ club where he just needs one good season under a new manager and he might get a move higher not lower…

Total bollux.

Still reckon that Sadler is having money problems
Not sure about that. He has committed to the training ground and the East stand.
Prior to the story about his problems with American banks he wasn't throwing money around on transfers and he hasn't done since.
Seems to me that he wants the club to generate its own income with him funding infrastructure and maybe throwing a bit of his own money into the transfer pot.
That would be sustainable and sensible, incoming players are taking longer to sign because they are in demand and on better contracts. Its relatively easy to sign Husband, Nuttall and Kaikai, the names we are now linked with are harder to get over the line when the club shows financial discipline.

Still reckon that Sadler is having money problems
I quite sure he’s not investing £30 million of his own money out of the goodness of his heart, he’s looking to get a return on his investment, which means being at least in the championship and probably in the playoffs to generate extra income. Even if he intended to sell the club, it would have to be as high as possible in the league to recover what he’s spent. So I expect he’ll do everything in his power to keep us in the championship. If we were relegated, it would probably be very difficult to get back.

Everyone has a price and I'm pretty damn sure that Jez would only be allowed to leave for a ridiculously large dollop of£££

I'd be surprised and a little disappointed if we sell Yates, but the manager has to do his thing and if he doesn't fancy him and has a replacement in mind, why not?

Yates struggled to impact games last year, no doubt. It doesn't mean he isn't good enough and he might thrive in a new system, but he's not indispensable.

2 million for a striker that's only delivered in league 1 and couldn't cut it in the championship? What world are you in?
Probably the same one as whoever it was at the club who decided to put him on a longer contract to play in the championship considering he can't cut it.

It would be absolute madness to sell Yates.

He and the Likes of Lavery and CJ should be given chance to show what they can do playing in positions they play best. I reckon all 3 will prosper.
Sorry but I genuinely struggle with CJ.

Zero strength.
Can't pass.
Positionally poor.
Can't head the ball.
Finishing he looks like a world beater one second and hits the corner flag the next.

He has pace and is pretty much a one trick pony with his cut backs. Sometimes people like Bowler, who have close control etc can be taught things.

We need far far far better than CJ. You can't be weak as shit in the Championship.

He had a big falling out with Mansford before the Preston away game last season so wouldn’t be shocked to see him leave.
Really? He's not exactly let his football do the talking when has had the chance (he's had plenty). Goes out on the piss a lot and (if true) is having interpersonal tiffs with the backroom staff. I wouldn't be bothered if he went.
