Jerry Yates in Walkabout after the Hull game

We know how Guardiola dealt with clubbers Grealish and Foden who may or may not have been the worse for wear as Jerry clearly was.Perhaps he knows he`s not needed this weekend but that would surprise me.

Hopefully he's enjoying a week off.

I'm caught in two minds about this, one is that he seems to like a drink and our fans encourage it when maybe they shouldn't.

Second mind is that players are entitled to enjoy themselves and I've only seen two videos in 18 months, which is hardly indicating he's the next Paul Merson.

Jamie Vardy seemed to like a night out in the area, didn't hold him back. 😆

The issue is lots of top pros will gain advantages by not putting alcohol into their bodies.

It does have an effect. So if you want to be the best you can be, you should cut this out certainly mid season.

However from another angle it is going on the piss with Jerry Yates....

Yep a confusion with the song and chant.

Done it myself before, but yeah its heavens gate chant thats correct.

Seeing as the chant is going up to the spirit in the sky, it would be weird to go there before you die and be at heaven's gates before you die. That would maybe imply that god killed you at the gates and not sure thats the message I wan to be involved in.... 👎

I must admit you nearly had me there... But think about it...

You're basically saying that

You'd like to go up to the Spirit in the Sky when you die (i.e. You're not dead yet)

but

Before you die and end up at 'Heaven's Gates' you want to go on the piss with Jerry Yates (i.e. You are going on the piss before you've died (and gone to heavens gates) and not that you have not died, but are still at heavens gates and then going on the piss with Jerry who is down on earth anyway)...

If that makes sense...

Just to be clear... the before bit applies to both the dieing bit and also the subsequent being at heavens gates bit... essentially meaning that you want to go on the piss with him before any of it happens...

Glad that's settled
 
TBH it's a weird chant. They've taken a chant referring to a dead person and made it about someone living. it doesn't really work, and the whole sentiment is wrong, unless it get's reworded to "before I die..."

The original chant is Georgie Best, who is dead. Therefore originally it's about a fan being brown bread, going to heaven and going on the lash with the aforementioned star.
 
I remember regular in my Sunday League career turning up half pissed from the weekend partying and still played better than if (rarely) I had an early Saturday night with no alcohol.

To be honest I'm not keen on these videos of Jerry like this and our supporters encouraging him. Yes it's his spare time but a) it's a bit unprofessional and unbecoming of a modern pro b) he's still representing our club in his downtime.

Maybe I'm just getting old but Jez appears not to need much encouragement.
 
In this day n age its a very English thing to go out on the piss.
Bet none of the top continental boys do it. The fitness levels between the 70s footballers on fags, beer n bacon butties compared to the top players these days wouldn't even be comparable. Plus if Jerry then tested positive and the squad went down with it it would be a far different scenario.
That said I've never been able to walk straight after a couple of pints so what do I know? 😜

I can't pretend to disagree with you regarding the lyrics but let's prioritise and address the really important issues first.

Let the lad have a beer but singing the right lyrics to a song so it makes sense is of huge importance. Thousands of folk singing about how when they're dead, they're gonna get pissed up with a guy who's alive should bring us all great shame.

But it's before you're at heaven's gates as well. The word "before" applies both to the being dead and the being at heaven's gates. It's a stretch but it's the only way the song makes any sense.
 
Nothing wrong with players having a drink especially after games (or as we non players would say after work)

The fall down is not putting yourself in a position where you are filmed and it’s loaded on to social media.
