Jerry Yates , is he human ?

Hands up, Jerry Yates is my favourite player. But last night, we watched with amazement at the workload he got through. How many 30 yard spints to close the opposition down ? I wish we could find out how many Kilometres he ran during the game. Also , check out Yates' celebration of Bowlers equaliser.

Jerry is a superb example to all young players. In every game he gives his all for the team.
However, as a striker, his job is to score goals and they dried up weeks ago - this will be frustrating him.
His lack of goals is down the fact that he's being played out of position, we've been playing front to back high hoofball, and due to our formation & tactics, we don't have creative players supporting him.
Get it sorted quickly MM. If you give Jerry the service he'll score goals and then we may start winning games & pull away from relegation.

Can't ask for much more. True workhorse performance last night. Plenty of games left for him to rediscover his goalscoring form, hopefully starting on Saturday.

Too good to be played right wing. Very sad seeing that again last night. Thought those days were over with Appleton going.
You'll get your wish now with Madine's suspension. I actually don't mind him on a wing, scored plenty from there and has more influence on the game, can get a bit isolated up front on his own.

Sad that we are celebrating a suspension but if it means playing Yates upfront and not on the wing, then so be it. Absolute wasted on the wing. We lose out a natural finisher upfront and at the same time we lose any creativity out wide.

His purple patch of goals came when he started wide left or right so he can be effective there.

It'll help with Madine being out for a few games

Simply put, Yates is worth his place in any Championship side. He was scoring well for us when we were buzzing with confidence. That was no accident.

A player that does give a dam.

At least now I am not dreading the teamshet for a few games knowing the miss machine won't be on it .

nope, he didn't play as an orthodox winge/wide man when he had his purple patch. He scored his goals by getting in and around the box. A striker being forced to play wide and getting up and down the touchline to help the defence isn't getting the best out of Jerrys natural ability as a striker. And that's why he hasn't scored for a while or even had many opportunities to score too.

Nice attempt at putting words in my mouth.

I didn't say that he played as an orthodox winger, or that he didn't score his goals by getting in and around the box, did I?

He started those games wide and scored in those games, he did also help out defensively and still scored. To me, that proves he can be effective from a wide position which is the point I am making.

Except he wasn't 'forced to play wide' last night. Our width in the first half came from CJ. with Yates playing alongside albeit slightly wider than Madine. Nothing went down Yates' side so he was able to get closer to the box. He wasn't the central striker, but he wasn't far off. Second half he was obviously right down the middle, but wandered all over the place.

Phenomenal stamina on the lad for a late night boozy stop-out according to the puritans on here.

my point is that going back to his purple patch he was playing much closer to Madine than to be classed as playing out wide. It went wrong when Appleton had to pick Ward at full back and Jerry had to cover for him which then became a role he had to play negating his ability to get in the box so much. Last night every hoofball first half was pretty much focused out to the left and Jerry was pretty anonymous in terms of trying to do something positive on the ball. As said second half he pretty much ploughed a lone furrow up front and his work rate was phenomenal. But now with Madine suspended for a few games the onus is gonna be on him and we need to utilise what he was brought to the club to do. And that is to get in and around the box and hope he can get a few chances to score.
