Jerry Yates

I know he's not our player anymore, but after seeing a negative comment from a Swansea journalist last night, I had a look at the Swansea fans reaction to him on twitter. Is a shame it's not worked out for him.

It’s not just Swansea fans to be fair. From what I’ve heard from various podcasts completely unaffiliated with Swansea, he’s been absolutely dreadful for them. A lot of people thought it was a strange move from them in the first place.

Hopefully he finds his feet at another club sometime soon.

I think Jerry is a championship player but only if all his ducks are in a row. He needs to be playing in the right team, with the right formation and the right players around him but also with the right manager and fans too. He isn't a prolific goalscorer but he will work his socks off for you and if you appreciate that and have goals in the team from elsewhere he will benefit you. If not then I can see aswell why some fans might think he's a bit sh1t.

As a South Yorkshire lad Barnsley or a return to Rotherham would be ideal,
Thinking about it the probably couldn't afford him.

Both Yates and Patino warming the bench again last night granted Yates got the last 30 minutes.
If these two are struggling to hold down a starting place in a very poor championship team it tells you all you need to know really about the void between a championship and a league one team.

It's not exactly breaking news that Jerry doesn't thrive in a formation where he's on his own up top, and I believe Swansea often play that way?

They didn't do enough due diligence on a player they were buying , it's their own fault.
They sacked the manager who signed him.

To understand Jerrys value then you have to look at that second half against Burnley when we went out ten yards further forward in defence and went manic on the press. All the forwards and midfielders went full press and Jerry was awesome at that.

This season we are always one of not two men light on the press. The front 3 go but that leaves a fourth or five defender still free and a holding midfield so teams always escape us.

Jerry needs either a big man with him or needs to be part of an aggressive front / midfield press where stamina and speed count.

The gap between Champ and League 1 is getting wider all the time.

Jerry was always unlikely to fit in well at a Club where “the Swansea way” (notions or what!) is that the team should dominate possession. He may well do better in the Champ elsewhere

Whereas if Patino can’t thrive in a team like that you would have to wonder what his future is….

Good post.
I’m not entirely convinced he is a championship standard striker.
I’d take him back in a heartbeat but the problem we have is the Boltons, Portsmouth’s and Derby’s of this world who might show an interest.

Sometimes players just suit a club. It was an ambitious move for Jerry and one you don't turn down. However, I am not surprised as I don't think he is a Championship quality footballer.
League1 /Lower half championship at a push.
He was right for us and we were right for him. He's like a fish out of water anywhere else.

Strange really when a player leaves us and people understand the reason they leave and don’t blame them, and would also welcome them back with open arms, yet when a manager leaves................

Yep, he’s a bottom half championship player in the right circumstances. He works his arse off to be as good as he can be.

Well if you're happy with a career to date record of 1 goal in 5 then good for you!
I don't see him becoming prolific.
I’m not saying I’m happy I’m saying I think he’ll come good from what I’ve seen so far, let’s face it Jerry wasn’t prolific at first and he turned out to be pretty good for us,anyway we all have a different opinion, that’s mine and as far as I’m concerned with more service he could become a fantastic player for us

Hopefully, but I see him as a second striker rather than the main man / leading goalscorer.

I love Jerry and as I've said before on here, I dont think Swansea knew what they were buying. They wanted an striker that can play upfront on their own and that's not Jerry. He needs to go somewhere that plays with 2 upfront, preferably big man little man dynamic and he will be back scoring in no time. You don't get 18 goal/assist in one Championship season if you aren't a Championship player.

I'd have him back in a heartbeat, I wish some of the current crop had half the ability, passion and work ethic that Jerry has.
I don't think Critchley would, or that Yates would play for him. In one interview Jerry said very sarcastically 'Neil Critchley....tactical genius'. No love lost there I'd sat.
