Just back

I also noticed that with the first pump as I was watching him

Think he spoke to a couple of players but looked very eager to please the North
I was watching on TTV and he shook hands with every player on the pitch. I can't see what is wrong with acknowledging the fans on the Kop it really is no big deal. There is a lot of pressure on both him and the team so this was a way of releasing it. The main thing that I took from the game is what a difference it was to watch a team that is well coached with every player knowing their role. The first 30 mins we were on a different level and the main criticism is we got a bit sloppy and left them off the hook.

It’s very like Gareth Southgate isn’t it…

Steady away, picks his faves… but will get “the group” together and do well.
That's true. The "group" sounds inclusive but somehow I don't think it is in reality. He's clearly been given a massive vote of confidence smby Simon Sadler. Let's hope he delivers and, hopefully, gives us something decent to watch along the way. I thought yesterday was a good start, but it was a lopsided affair in more ways than one. Inverted wing backs and all.

The fist pumps were done because the North Stand was asking for them, he probably felt a bit uncomfortable himself doing them.

That’s the problem for me, that when things got tough and we lost he didn’t even acknowledge fans. He’s only ever done it after a win. I remember games at Preston, Birmingham and Derby where he was conspicuous by his absence at the end. There were plenty of other games.

The great Billy was genuine and consistent with the fans after a win, loss or draw.
It was that long ago I can’t really remember tbh. More interested in the future than dwelling on the past 👍

Better to applaud all the fans, rather than fist pump one stand, are the west and the south less important supporters?

Well not quite, but it was a late one due to the rail service that we have in this country

Infact all day the trains were awful, overcrowded with delays and cancellations all over the place

Queues to get in were also shite but to be expected

Didn't even have time for a proper pre match pint in a pub, had to make do with a flyer in the concourse,

Cruzcampo is a vast improvement, didn't try one of the Preston pies but my lad did and said they were too small

Enjoyed the new surroundings in the West, had tickets near the front in one of the end blocks towards the North and it was decent,

Spoke to a few people I knew and had some decent football chat

What a start !!

From the first minute we looked really up for it and a bit unlucky with the disallowed goal as the flag was really late, I actually thought the midfield three were all good and don't understand the grief Carey has been getting on this site, we dominated possession and created chances. It was a really good watch

The only thing that disappointed me a little was Connolly on the right and CJ on the left, surely it would have made more sense to have them on the opposite sides. Lyons and Trybull not playing just reinforced my view on Critchley only liking players he signs

Second half was as dull as it comes but to be expected I suppose given how in control we were, I would have liked us to have a go at them as we probably could have scored 3 or 4 more as they were dog shit, it was very Critchley like to be honest keeping what we have approach that he's famed for

Good three 3 points though

Norburn looks a great signing and Lavery is going to score a bucket load in this league if we play to his strengths

Great new song for Lavery as well, how long will it be before folk pick up and moan the fact that tune has been copied from a loyalist Rangers song 🎵

Love it.....

What the fuck was the fist pumps all about, I can't be the only person who felt a bit uncomfortable watching that at the end, especially given how dull the second half was

Walk back into town and another queue for an over crowded train, the shop/bar at Blackpool North wasn't even open, bizarre giving how busy the station was

Few fans milling about at Preson station, Walsall, Fleetwood, West Brom and Burton all visible but very little trouble or even noise

Over 4 and a half hours later we were home, ridiculous really given it should only be about 2 hours 30

Long day all in all and to be honest I'm glad I've decided not to have the burden of having a season ticket given a home game is now about a 12 hour shift

West stand was decent will definitely get the same seats again, will probably do the Morretti one week and the Heineken another week, it was nice to have the option to walk to the North as well and if my youngest comes to a match might even do the family stand again

It's the way forward ....

Promotion beckons if we can play like that first half

Utmp
New pies from Preston’s cheaper for the club to buy so more profit and less quality.

Don't know what Phil was watching but Carey wasn't good yesterday .He wasn't as dreadfull as quite a few games last season but he didn't play well

In terms of the fist pump… For me, I think that was the crowds way of letting Critchley know that he’s welcome back and there’s no hard feelings.

It was the right thing to do… It’s out of the way and we can all move on. If it felt a bit cringy for some, then that’s not a bad thing…. They’ll be over that now … So they can move on too.👍

Decent game, great to see a few faces that I haven’t seen for a while. I had two pies (one free, one purchased)… Far better standard than last seasons and no noticeable size difference (Maybe your lads hands are bigger 😂)… Tge Pork Shop ‘high end’ sausage rolls will be a big miss, but their meat & potato pies were a disaster, so glad to have a pieman who can actually make a pie… (though a shame he’s a knobber… ).

Critchley is a shrewd operator, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he has something up his sleeve when it comes to players who haven’t featured… It’s also possible that we may see a bit of a shift around in terms of incomings / outgoings m..

On the whole (Lower division accepted) it was a much better looking set up. Well organised team that seemed to have all the necessary components doing the right thing.

I’m not sure we’ll get the luxury of so much time on the ball though with the better sides in this league and as the season moves on. The step down in class from the Championship was very noticeable, it was almost like watching in slow motion on occasion.
I could handle the fist pump, it was the fist against the badge that had me questioning if I had really forgiven him. “Oh go on then Critch but this is your last chance, anymore and you’re gone. Go get your stuff from the spare bedroom you’re back in here but remember what I said….”

Yeah one of the reasons, 2 of my boys play football on a Saturday morning as well so its just a massive rush

Will still probably do between 10 -15 home games I reckon but will just pick them instead of feeling I have to go because I have a ST
As an exile myself I get it. Every home game is an away game type of thing. And now with the new added time, Tuesday night games will be an even later finish.

The Fleetwood massive done well to get back from Carlisle into Preston that quick. Must have left their game early.

You can add Accy to the roll-call Phil. One wham shirt on view at 6.30 before I boarded the dosser express back to Lime Street 👍

Rather than plod into town, we got the 5.30 from Blackpool South, to then meet up with the Blackpool North to Leeds train at Preston. Gave us 40 minutes in the bar on Preston Station. Saves the hassle at North Station.

Agree with most of your game summary. I don't think the second half was what Critchley wanted, I think the players just slackened off the intensity because it was so easy. If the opposition had been better, I think the focus would have remained, less casual in attitude.

We're going up.

Quelle surprise but please never change Wiz.

Fair enough.... Each to their own and I get where you are coming from. 👍 Personally I think that relationship between Manager and Crowd plays a big part in carrying you through, when the going gets a bit tough. It's one part of a whole series of small things that add up and make the difference between where we found ourselves last season and the kind of cohesive unit we looked for most of the season before.

I think the North Stand showed that they appreciate the interaction and at the end of the day, they're the lads that get the atmosphere going and drive the team on etc..

I couldn't agree more.

No matter what anybody thinks about Critch and the fist pumps or Critch on the whole and/or the behaviour of some in the North, it would be ridiculous to suggest that the bond between Critch and the North was not a positive in our survival season back in the Championship.

Honestly he was just a manager for me first time around. I wasn’t overly pleased with his style of play or his selections, but he did well. When he left I wasn’t bothered in the slightest.

I’m fine with him being back, but I hated the fist pumps and badge touching first time around. I don’t like any manager doing that. Just wave and say thank you. It’s about the players for me.

Yes, reading thread back to front and I think it was you that x3 has already replied to.

Personally,I'd agree with your first paragraph but even if you don't like the fist pumps - and you don't have to - I think it's fair to say that they helped build a bond with the supporters in the North and had a positive effect on the season.

Maybe I'm over egging the contribution of the bond but surely it would be ridiculous to suggest it was a negative ?

He does clap all home stands, but clearly the north is a bit special, it's where the atmosphere is created, we're mostly there at the end.

It's literally the place with most the energy in the stadium and whoknows, maybe if the south called for fist pumps he'd do it there too. Those in the northern part of the west get the benefit anyway from being near the north.

It'll only take a group of a few determined individuals to alert him, with shaky hands and a monotone hum, to the fact that the south of the stadium wants some fisting time too...

Either that or raise it as one of those special questions at the next structured dialogue meeting. 😏

Thank God he didn’t try and fist pump the South. We were half asleep after that second half and the amount of injury time.

I don't wish to appear prudish but I really do think we need to be making a clear distinction between references to 'fist pumps' and 'fisting'. Because, believe you me, there is a marked difference between the two ...

Prude ......

It's a bit of fun calling it ' fisting'

A big chunk of the South are leaving on 85 minutes. Tricky to fist pump when the game is still going on.

Critchley picks his teams based on the opposition. Lyons, for all his attacking threat, has been known to be vulnerable defending so it might have just been that Connelly was the better option given their main threat was the big dangerous lump Carl Stockton.
Agree
Connolly is solid, Lyons better bet going forward.
But Hubbie was well protected so job done.
Connolly may be thought of as just a squad player, but he is a bloody good squad player worthy of another contract.

Yes I'll take your advice on this, as I believe you found that out the hard way...

Lesson learned 👍

Beesley Carey both not good enough. Need to give Dale a go on the left.
