Just back

Was he? I don't remember that so much. He was generally a well received appointment I thought
I think FY8 is overstating it a bit but there's no doubt for me that in those first few months after his appointment and the season had started and results weren't going too well he came in for a fair bit of criticism. I think a lot of it, like today, centred around his failure to adapt formations and not getting the best out of players because he wasn't playing them right. In fact i think there was a poll at that time as to whether he should be sacked or not.

My point is he's a find for us, filling an obvious gap in our midfield capabilities. I'd be pushing to sign him permanently - captain material and a player capable of making us tick if Critchley allows him to play the way he clearly can.
Very good against Bolton, culpable for goal at Orient but came back with a good performance yesterday. He is the natural Dougall replacement, and I would venture to say he is better than the current Kenny.
If he wants to come to seaside on a perm then I am sure he will soon be a fan favourite

No a cat in hells chance we will pay his wages

I was watching closely first half as he was down the right side where we were sitting. He looked like he had absolutely no idea what his role was or what he was supposed to do.
If you watch him in any game(even a reasonable one for him) he struggles to read the game and reacts rather than read the game.

This is where I have constantly said you either take all defensive duties off him or just don't start him as we then start with 10/ 10 & a half players if he starts.

Why are they massive?
He is out of contract I believe in summer, so he has some decisions to make, but there are worse places to be than Blackpool even under Critchley. The other thing that may sway him is he knows that he would get a starting position nearly every match here as it is a position we are short in. He is 3 years younger than Kenny so if we sold on Kenny and got a younger ready replacement it sounds like good business.

I thought Byers and Norburn worked very well together today. Norburn gets some stick on here but he creates space for others to prosper in
Norburn was terrible, vast majority of his passes go backwards. On the rare occasions he makes a forward pass he dithers on the ball so long our players are tightly marked and we usually lose possession.

I can't remember that at all, but I am old so it's no surprise!

Norburn improved as the game went on but needed to do so. I don't think being captain as well is helping his game or that of the team. He trys to get involved in every setpiece when the obvious thing to do is leave it to Dembele. Generally we need to up our tempo and take it to tge oppositionmore. It takes weeks to do a throw in or corner. Time is not on our side.

I just wish he wasn't so one footed. He has to do a mini pirouette to get the ball on his right foot facing in the right direction and it often results in him being closed down. Hence so many back passes. I do think there is a much better player in there though, the one we saw in his first few games. I would preferably see a three with Morgan in there too and blow out the three centre halves tactic.
It’s just opinion but Morgan is too light weight and Norburn gives some much needed grit

I'm not sure if people watch the same game as I do. Byers and Norburn are our best middle two, harsh on Morgan but fact.
Agreed. All the way through we were surrounded by people screaming get it forward, even when we were playing one twos around their players. Time and time again, when we did knock it forward, as demanded, we lost possession.

I just don't get the issue some people have with us keeping the ball and moving the opposition about. That's exactly how we scored both goals.

Peterborough did it to perfection in that cup game and everyone was saying how they were the best team to come to bloomers.

I never felt in any danger that we would lose but I was worried we wouldn't score until we did and I then thought we won comfortably. Certainly not a classic, the sort of game we have lost 1-0 this season so a welcome result. We will need to play better on Saturday and after that we actually have quite a friendly run in apart from Derby away, you never know, but it's Critchley's tactics so let's just hope.
You never felt in any danger that we would lose?
Then why, just before half time did you post that we were boring to watch and you just know what’s going to happen?

What are you basing this on?
Most fans are frustrated by Critchleys tactics I don’t know one fan personally who is happy with him. Not saying they all want him sacked or to leave. But they all think he’s stubborn and rigid and dislike his style of play.

Hooleys, if you read this forum regularly then you will know that there are quite a lot who think he can take us to the next level (me included)
Sadly we have the anti - Critch brigade (in fact anti- every manager we ever have) who berate managers regardless of the result. And they call themselves supporters.
You don’t know one fan personally who is happy with Critch?
Oh dear, you must have a very limited circle of friends and lead a very lonely life.

Me too, but it’s an unhealthy obsession with some, like he'd strangled their cat.

Woulld Critch have a dog or a cat? Personally, I don't think he'd have either because of the shedding of fur and the mess.

Discuss.

Because that is what has happened so many times away from home, or haven't you noticed. ``Done with your stalking for today?

Thought it was a thoroughly professional performance today, Grimmy looked assured and his kicking and throw outs on form, CJ lacking confidence but did nothing wrong and tracked back well, Can see the sense it starting with his pace against the likes of Shrewsbury, would expect Gabriel the best RWB in the league to start against Pompey. Pennington/Marv/Hubby look our best three and should remain unchanged on the run in, Coulson now looking match fitness was pushing for MOM. Byers best game yet another getting his match sharpness back in time for the run in, Norburn our latest AVFTT whipping boy played well yesterday and covers all the space in the middle of the park left by the others trying to get forwards, he does a lot of unsung work an important role in the team, Dembele is the best footballer in league 1 and has been brought to the boil by Critch slowly but surely he can carry this team to promotion, Rhodes back is a joy to see his movement off the ball is top drawer his goals will start flowing again in time for the run in, Beesley 11 goals is impressive from a stop start season can see his sharpness returning and banging a few more in, Joseph and Lavery are both great options for this level. All in all we are looking strong for the run in, here’s to a trip to Bloomfield South. 🍊UTMP

It’s called entertainment Wiz. Unfortunately we’re sadly lacking even if we do win

Absolutely the opposite,
lots of different circles of friends and not one who is happy with things currently.
In fact I’m not anti Critch but I do think he is too rigid.
Which is the complete opposite of his first successful stint when he often changed his tactics. Now his plan B is plan A with a slight change of personal.

Not sure why you had to get so personal with your last sentence.

I know there are people on this forum that still like him, but I find it strange that no-one I know or discus football with, has a different view of the current tactics and most find watching currently stale, turgid and unexciting both home and away, however the home form is vastly contrasting to the away form which seems to infer that it’s better than most people actually appreciate, but a few games apart Ive not enjoyed the football the Bolton game was enjoyable even though for large parts of the game it could of gone either way.

You are telling me that you and your plethora of friends are all happy with Critchley and his choices this year? That you applauded when he played players out of position, in formations they were ill-suited for? In my entire life I can’t recall a season where we have missed opportunities due to the intransigence of our manager.

Not stalking at all. Just wondering why you said you had no doubt we would win (after the result) but before that you said we were boring and knew what was going to happen
Just very contrary that’s all and strange that you seem to be back pedalling when I asked you the question.

I'm not back peddling at all, I thought we wouldn't lose but history tells us that we do lose those games and at half time I was worried that that would happen again. We weren't good yesterday, we were boring, we were average and they were terrible, we are going to have to play a lot better than that on the run in away from home or we won't be picking up many points.

Don’t twist things to suit your own agenda.
I said there were a lot of people who feel that Critch can take us to the next level.
He has stuck with the same “formation” all season and when we win he gets all the plaudits but lose or draw then he’s a useless manager.
All this about players playing in the wrong positions is just an excuse to have a dig at the manager when we lose because when we win (with players out of position) that fact isn’t even mentioned.
At the end of the day they are professionals and should have some degree of versatility.
A pitch is approximately 105 x 68 metres and it is a sad indictment to say an outfield player can’t adapt to a bit of a change when required

Apart from last season when the manager insisted on 4 3 3 despite having a midfield of kids made of tissue paper.

Just that you can feel the mood change, he wasn't a lot of supporters first choice and you can see and hear the breakdown between manager and supporters even after an away win today. I would love him to succeed and ram my words down my throat, I will be the first to say I got it wrong, but I just can't warm to him or his tactics.
I could not agree with you morehertford you raise the same views as my self.what pisses me of more than any thing is with the Squad that we have we should be competing for automatic promotion not just settling for the play offs.because I know as well as you know that we a experienced Coach I think we would have been pushing for automatic promotion or there or there about.

The Radio Shropshire matchday team were very clear that our squad is light years ahead of the Shrews. Their manager said it too in a brutally honest post match interview. Everybody knows the truth. There's no question we've underperformed this season with the players we have. Now is the time to live up to the hype. 10 games, we need seven or eight wins.

Grow up I don’t have an agenda. I want my club to do the best it can. Our league position reflects our managers choices and that position is not good enough. As for versatility- these are third division players let’s identify their strengths, play to those qualities and when confidence is high add another string to their bows. You don’t tinker each week and learn nothing from your results. That’s not an agenda. That’s just common sense and good management.

4 3 1 2 probably gets our best players on the pitch from the off and allows for tweaks in formation.
Norburn, Byers and Morgan in the 3 with Dembele ahead of them.
Problem is this would confine Hamilton to the subs bench😉

This is how I would set up, but with Gabriel at right back despite his defensive shortcomings and Hubby at left back despite his having a poor second half of the season so far with the ball. The key is to control midfield and get our best player on the ball. It feels obvious really.

Prior to his unfortunate injury this would also have given us Lyons and Coulson to bring on some energy out wide later in the game if needed.

Yep

Yep Lyons gets no luck at all. I just think we've been playing the wrong shape all season and it's done us no favours at all. He won't be for changing now though 😗

Why do you think that is when promotion is so important to the club?
I think it's down to the coach having no experienced sounding board. Anyone else would have at least tried the alternative or switched to it after a hopeless 45 minutes. We need to be more adaptable in game.

You forgot to mention his film star good looks. What a stud! 😂
He'd be good in those rubbish Steven Seagal films as third hoodlum, the one who doesn't make the second reel.

Meh I really enjoyed Saturday so no idea what people want. We have been absolutely boring often but Saturday was a good solid 7/10 performance.
Most of it was tough going but when you get moments like those two or three from Dembele it reminds you why we love this game. I'm praying Pompey don't make a full on attempt to snuff his threat out on Saturday.
