Just Call Me Dave

Well they are going to get hardly any votes anyway, however, you have to hope Labour get their act together because they can be as inept in house too. They will take over an utter shit show too, it will take years to put right and they will make their own monumental fuck ups too. I would prefer a Labour/Lib dem coalition

There all a bit cringe to be honest.
They’re all as bad as one another and not worth voting for! Labour left us with no money last time and the Tories have been really shite since taking over. Not a decent politician between them all. Never mind w we ll be living under Sharia Law in 100 years time when the Muslims take over the asylum

That was really what I meant. The trouble with this country is that a majority of voters will always vote for the party they have always voted for, it is ingrained into their DNA and it is on all sides, particularly the main 2. Very few voters actually have the blinkers off and actually look at all parties and will vote according to what they think will be best for the country (I know, they're all a bit shit so it's like choosing one piece of poo over another piece of poo). I was bought up in a mixed household, my dad was Tory and mum just followed him, my sister was Labour because she always had to do the opposite of my dad and I started off as Tory but over the last 20 years have voted different parties or not voted at all because the poos are equally pooie! My dad was a socialist growing up and always had that going through him but as he became more successful he looked at what was best for the country and also for him and the family.

I will not be voting Tory in the next election and I won't be voting Labour either, we are in an area where the Lib Dems could easily win so my vote will probably go there to help stop either of the other 2.

They all really are a shit show and it would be great if everyone just didn't vote, send a message that they're all out of touch with reality and that they need to realise and change. Of course that will never happen, but I worry about the strength of right wing politics and right wing extremism being a real danger to not just this country but all over the world. Humans are horrible and always looking to hate someone or something, what sort of ideology is that? With that and global warming (which unbelievably some thing is a myth) Trump likely to be elected for a 4 year term, Putin being Putin, Israel being Israel and Muslim terrorists being Muslim Terrorists. Throw Kim Jong into the mix and China, particularly against Taiwan and it is probably best to just stay in bed!! 🙈😂

He’s an experienced operator, but this is a poisoned chalice. Ukraine, Israel, Putin, Taiwan, Iran, North Korea, NATO. If he navigates that lot, full marks.

Well, Suella had to go, particularly once the honourable leader of the opposition had joined the calls for her sacking, she was obviously too truthful and had more balls than the rest of the commons put together, to be in the position she was in. However, I wonder what he and his party have to say about 'just call me Dave' coming back into office? The mind boggles! 🥴

Not being anti for the sake of it One, and at one time I might have agreed with you. However, democracy is increasingly grabbing the headlines for being a weak form of government, with populists on the front foot, challenging election results and looking further right-wing for strong, autocratic government. We don't need to give it a hand by appointing an unelected bloke off the street to one of the senior offices of State.
Off the street... Loved that! Huge farmhouse in the Cotswold, the Chipping Norton set!

It's nice to see an old Etonian back at the heart of cabinet, they have made such a good job of running the country I was beginning to worry that an oink might be promoted. Hurrah for Eton !

Oh i forgot a Bullingdon boy too . Double hurrah top hats off to him!

More balls and too truthful?
I'm lost for words, I've read it all on AVFTT now. Unless you're being sarcastic and I'll apologise

Unelected bureaucrat (oh, thought that was an EU thing ! ). Wont appear in the Commons.
Huge blunder with Brexit referendum.
Responsible with Osborne for the Austerity policies that so damaged our public services.
Big contribution to the disastrous intervention in Libya.
Still Questions about involvement in the Greensill affair.
Plus involvement with China.
Known for having a £12k Shepherd' s hut.

It's worth remembering that Dodgy Dave was in disgrace approx. 2.5 years ago. There are lots of questions about the Greensill matter that he didn't answer very fully, perhaps the most pertinent was how much did he earn from his rather desperate lobbying?

He is now back in the heart of government, it's beyond belief.

It would be beyond belief in normal times, but unfortunately nothing surprises me where this bunch of crooks are concerned.

Metaphorically it presents better than multi-millionaire pig botherer. It's true though, why bother with democracy when you can make any old dodgy git a life peer in order to run a Department of State. Today the Bullingdon pig shagger, tomorrow.....Lord Matt the Secretary shagger Hancock?

As prime minister, Gordon Brown pledged to form a ‘government of all the talents' and appointed numerous ministers of state, such as Baroness Vadera, directly to the House of Lords. Brown also appointed Lord Adonis as secretary of state for transport, and elevated ex-MP Peter Mandelson to the Lords, so that he could serve as secretary of state for business, innovation and skills.

I'm sure there are many others also.

So despite all the jumping up and down on this thread, it's not the first or the only time that someone from the Lords has served in the Government of the day.

Absolutely, Brown did that a number of times but never in one of the top offices of State: Chancellor, Home Secretary and Foreign Secretary. Of course, constitutionally the Chancellor of the Exchequer has to sit in the Commons whereas the others don't. I think the point is - as I noted in an earlier post - democracy is being examined under a microscope like never before and, especially post -Brexit, it behoves our rulers to remember Tony Benn's maxim: if you cannot get rid of the people who govern you, you do not live in a democratic system.

Yes indeed! Democracy, eh?!

Labour didn't leave us with no money last time, it was mainly Tory bankers gambling on the stock exchange and losing billions causing a world wide recession.

As for your Sharia law nonsense. Let's just leave that.

Alex Douglas Home was PM of course, from the Lords

Suella went for calling homelessness a lifestyle choice and trying to foment a race riot on the streets.

I know you don't agree with either of those, so it's not balls, it's a naked grab for power.

How do you know they were Tory bankers?Thought it started in the USA
Tongue in cheek comment about Sharia Law although still worrying for the future of the UK

He was a useless PM, claimed to be a "compassionate" conservative but bought in policies that that severely curtailed programmes. Had neither the support of the majority of his party or the Tory press hence the referendum and policies to placate the various RWNJ's.

Was listening to LBC yesterday, someone interviewed saying he was an experienced political operator who would shore up Sunaks regime. If Call me Dave is the answer then fuck knows how bad the problem is!!!!

never mind a lack of basic competence - think about the opportunities!

Trebles all round!
And a pigs head on the side ...

I'm pretty sure the Tories are still blaming Labour.

No she wasn't. She was talking about the streets of London in particular.
Suella Braverman: "Listen, the British people are a compassionate nation and of course we must do everything necessary to support those who are genuinely homeless.

"But at the same time, we must make sure we don't go down the same route as some cities in the US, like San Francisco or Seattle where living in a tent has become a lifestyle choice, and with it has brought drug use, criminality and antisocial behaviour."

Ali Fortescue: "You talk about a lifestyle choice... surely this is something people do out of desperation, not a lifestyle choice?

Suella Braverman: "As I said, we will help those who are genuinely homeless.

"There is no need to use tents for accommodation in 21st century Britain. It brings criminality, it brings drug use, it brings in many instances violence to communities."

No mention of London?

I stand corrected if you can show me otherwise.

Pretty sound logic spoken by her in my book. Again with your background on 'Benefits"?, I was led to believe Social Services are obliged to find said accommodation?

That is the council's responsibility and the caring Tories have slashed the budget.

To make savings, the criteria for accommodation has been adjusted to very specific groups which don't include single men for starters.

The caring Rishi said veterans shouldn't get support because they were specifically trained to live off the land.
