Just watched the game back

A few observations which I know have been covered but sod it.

Husband was absolutely outstanding 1st half. He was left isolated down their right for pretty much the whole of the 1st half and he defended remarkably.

Richard Keogh. What. A. Block. He undoubtably denied them a goal with a last ditch block. I also think he may have got a little touch on the shot that hit the bar too. He is becoming a real cult hero is Uncle Dickie.

That save by Grimshaw was exceptional. Low down to his right when he was moving in the opposite direction.

Gabriel was like a man posessed. Particularly in the 2nd half. He was denied a certain goal at the back post by their defender cutting out Demi's pass.

Madine ran himself into the ground. He is a quality target man and is only getting better with the more minutes he gets under his belt.

A quiet day for Bowler where things just didn't quite come off for him. That's what you are going to get with Josh though. He can be inconsistent but on his day he's unplayable.

Keshi. Timed his run to perfection and scores an absolute worldie after I thought he might have blown the chance. Great composure.

Sonny Carey. Only a cameo role for him but he oozes class. I can see him going a long way in the game. Especially under the guidance of Critch over the next couple of years.

Critchley. What can I say. He rallied the troops. Came with a game plan to frustrate them and see out the initial pressure (60 mins or so). Then he makes the changes and a change to the system and the whole dynamic of the game changes. He looked to be pretty emotional at the end too after rejoicing with the pool faithful. What a top man he really is.

To sum it up. We witheld some pretty intense pressure for around an hour. We rode our luck at times and at other times defended admirably. We weathered the storm and played with heart and guts and got the result we dreamed of. Yes Sheff U could count themselves slightly unfortunate but we have had some bad luck ourselves over the course of the first 15 games. Swings and roundabouts.

So proud of this team and very excited of what they can achieve. Bring on Stoke. UTMP!

I've watched it back too. In my opinion the intense pressure was about ten minutes in the first half, around the half hour mark, and ten minutes immediately after half time. The game wasn't one sided. They had chances and should have scored but we had chances too. It was 4 shots on target to two, and one of ours was put away superbly. We played ok. They were pretty but toothless! We were resilient and got on top in the last 35 minutes. We actually improved before Sonny came on. I actually think Sheff ran out of steam, or ideas, or belief. And we capitalised and saw it out comfortably.

It seemed pretty one sided to me for an hour or so but that's just my opinion. On another day they could have had at least two goals if the shot that hits the bar goes in and Grimshaw doesn't make that top save. But like you say we were resiliant for the most part and then completed the perfect away performance with a quality goal.

Better side maybe, in some ways, but not one sided in my opinion. And we wore them down and got on top.

That goal from them that was ruled out for offside, was possibly `fortunate' for us, when they showed the replay on tv.
A brave, eagle-eyed linesman👍

And that 2nd half save by Grimshaw was outstanding as was that block from Keogh..

Over the years though, we've dominated dozens of games far more than Sheffield did, and came away with nothing.

The only thing I would say is that it definitely wasn’t 60 minutes of intense pressure. More like 15-20 mins of pressure (during the first 60 minutes)… in that time we also had spells where we put them under pressure too and could, probably should, have scored.

First half was evenly balanced although they put us under some pressure for the last 5-10. Second half probably favoured us but they put us under quite a lot of pressure early on.

And lets not forget their keeper made a couple of very good saves, especially the one in the first half that he tipped round the post.

Going to watch it this morning in full after an epic weekend at Tangerine 🍊 Hotels.

It felt pretty intense in real time. That said I think they offered nothing of note after we scored. That i can remember anyway.

Jerry had 12 touches in 63 minutes, struggled to get involved. Sonny had 10 touches in 27 minutes. The last half hour was a much better period for us obviously. Madine 48 touches in 90. We don't seem to be getting the ball to our main goal threat enough?

I watched it back last night and the pressure was nowhere near as intense as I thought it was after watching it live.
Yes, it's funny how the game can seem quite different when you watch it back. Of course, when we are watching live, we don't know what's going to happen so it's bound to feel more intense.
More stripes to strip off on Wednesday. Bring on Delilah.

Their 'goal' was definitely offside. Quite a few of their supporters on their fans forum were level with the play and they have all said their player was clearly offside when the ball was played.
