Kenny Dougall

The current system doesn't suit him unless plays the holding midfielder until Critch realises that the hapless one-footed Norburn is simply not up to playing the holding role by himself nothing is going to change. Hopefully, we will revert to playing the same system that got us promoted from league 1, and ditch the current formation.

I agreed this time last season, get shut of a few and bring in a few.

Dougall
Dale
CJ
Virtue
Beesley

and replace with 5 plus an extra 2 and keep Trybull. I know that won't happen but it is what I would do.

So just the 7 in by the end of the window! 😂
I've been saying this since he joined but when he puts the shirt on I'll back him.

It's not his fault managers pick him, put him on set pieces etc. Very thankful for his service because he tries, but he's never been good enough on the ball or without it.

The current system doesn't suit any of the Blackpool players.

He has been a very good servant for us and consistently underrated in my opinion. However, I do wonder if he's reached the end of the road with us. His best football was played in a two man midfield where his energy was a real asset because his job was to break up play and move it quickly to one of our more attack minded players. He's struggled since Appleton came in a butchered our midfield. I know wonder if it's the right time for a fresh start for the player and for us.

He's nowhere near as bad as some people make out and was a key part in the best couple of teams we've had for a few years.

Would agree something not right . He was never brilliant rather steady but now just seems slow on and off the ball and lacking energy
for me matty virtue is a better league 1 player

Exactly. It's hard to know the true form and capabilities of most of our starters as they are being forced into a ridiculous, ponderous, regimented system. We need to take the handbrake off before even the chance of automatic promotion goes completely up in smoke.

It was trying to make him a "holding midfielder" that's messed him up! Dougall was is and always will be best played right in the middle, he breaks up play, wins headers, muscles others off the ball & brings other players in to the game with simple passes.

Unfortunately our game plan currently seems to be to avoid the middle of the pitch at all costs which just doesn't play to Dougall's strengths.

Kenny is a good guy to come off the bench and defend a lead by trying to win and retain possession.
CJ (& Lavery) should be used as subs to run at tired defenders. None should start unless we're woefully short.
Something isn't right - our players are not showing for each other and the simple forward pass is never on - so we hoof it long.
It's a coaching issue that lies squarely with NC and his team. Along with their shite team selections.

Totally agree. Keith Southern did the same. Vaughan was anchor midfield because he could not only tackle but technique was excellent. It’s about balance.

Good test of knowledge is if you can appreciate what Kenny does. He's never been the issue in midfield, you know what you'll get for him. He can't do it all in his own though and too often with his partner or partners, it's those who haven't been good enough.

Well just as a little guide. Our best runs of results coincided with Kenny in the team in a partnership

Kenny and Kev. Promotion winners
Kenny and Wintle. Rise up to just outside playoffs in the Championship
Kenny and Norburn - two wins in a row.

Kenny is now approaching his twilight seasons and I think a trip to Wembley or better would be a massive achievement and source of pride to him. Rock on Kenny!!!

I'm not a Kenny fan but here's my simple thoughts on him.
I think we need better than Kenny in midfield but at the moment I dont think we have better so whilst I don't hugely rate him, he's better than the others presently.

Dougall and Virtue( missed his energy today) will be the 2 mainstays of our midfield this season. And they are more than good enough.
