Keshi / CJ appreciation thread

I've been sitting on the fence with CJ for many games this season, is he good enough for the Championship etc, but have we always got the ball to him enough? Today when we did, he gave us that platform to remain on the front foot and keep pressing. He'll have more difficult opponents but in deep positions today running at his full back he was immense.
Keshi orchestrated things today sitting in a deeper role often but was so comfortable in possession he kept the ball moving and did it quickly making them have to do a lot of off the ball running. A great squad effort today, Kirk too had a big game 😜, his deliveries are exquisite. He needed that. Ok so it started as a CJ / Keshi appreciation post...... Connolly had a .......

Hope this makes sense, but today, especially first half, I thought CJ looked like a genuine winger rather than just a fast attacker.

We got him into several positions in the first where he could run at the LB, instead of just trying to outpace them. And he turned their lad inside out.

I can also think of three occasions in the second where he got the ball in a good spot and chose to play a safe pass instead of getting a going again. Don't know if that's just a confidence thing or he didn't fully realise what was on.

But he had a great game today and deserved his goal.

One thing I did notice today as a slight negative, is that Charlie Kirk isn’t yet fit enough.
He was blowing around the 35 min mark and struggled to track back at pace after running forward, to stop the counter attack.

The coaching staff will know that and it’s probably influenced his non selection at times rather than his ability. It’s also the sort of thing that can be resolved pre season.

CJ did brilliant early on to create an goal going on the outside then scoring by going on the inside. He really should have kicked on from there as his marker had no idea how to deal with him.

Really needs to believe in himself, in the way Bowlers head doesn't go down no matter if things come off for him for not. It's a mentality thing which needs working on.

The big difference for CJ today was that he only had one player marking him.
It makes you wonder if Bowler would have been afforded the same luxury and if so would he have delivered as well as CJ did.

think that's spot on. CJ in the the first 20 minutes or so had his best time in a tangerine shirt. Couldn't believe what I was seeing, cutting in cutting out and for the first goal doing both. Did really well and laid the foundation for a great win.

CJ did great, and Keshi is a lovely footballer and did well too; only thing I thought was, if I was picking a team to play against us yesterday, I’d have had three hard workers in the middle against Keshi and Dougall, try to overrun them, as Keshi for me was almost asked to be kev Stewart, and for all his fine qualities, he’s not the physical presence of Stewart (although that saving tackle in our box first half looked like Stewart!). I think a better team might have caused us big problems with that line up. Not a criticism, just an observation. I also think Dougall could have had a shout for MOTM with an assist and goal added to immense work in the middle.

Why did CJ have a good game
Look at the passes that put him in
Forward in front of him not behind him
He was able to receive the ball at pace
A great right footed pass for the first goal
This is the CJ we saw when he first arrived

I'm one who's been behind CJ, there's a good player in there. He was electric early doors and set the benchmark for the game. I still say he's better suited to be on the left, but accept that's down to who he's against and who's on the right. Sometimes the game has just not been there for him (marked by 2 ball at feet), but yesterday the stars aligned.

Anderson has been great all season and looked back to fitness. I've always said his best position is not wide but should be inside- never envisaged him playing that deep!

The first goal summed up everything we haven't been doing all season. Thorniley wins the ball outside the box, finds a good pass to Lavery who knows where Hamilton is and then he drives turning his man whilst Beesley is looking for the space, and finds it brilliantly making CJ's mind up for him. All done with pace and behind them.
