This might be a bit of a strange post, but this has bothered me for a few years now.

I’ve notice through a few social media posts remembering fallen soldiers, that a young lad from Blackpool Kevin Johnson was killed in Northern Ireland on this day in 1978. He was 20 at the time of his death making me a similar age to him.

I could have sworn In My youth I palled around with him somewhat at snooker halls. But to my shame my memory isn’t what it used to be and I wish I could remember for certain. I’m fairly convinced I hung around with Kevin in our school days.

I was just wondering if any of the older posters knew him or had any info on his family.

I think I’ve attached the description of him and his picture.

Either way a young Blackpool lad that gave his life for our country, who barely gets a mention now. RIP Kevin.

Edit to add won’t let me upload the photo will keep trying.

Think the files were all too big to go in one. But there’s the brief description and his picture.

Any help to jog my memory would be appreciated.

I remember on the old board a post by someone about a soldier from Blackpool killed in NI.He had found the grave in a Blackpool cemetery and if I remember rightly he said it was in poor condition. It might possibly be the grave of Kevin.

A search on the internet says he’s buried at Carleton Cemetery.

RIP.

Thanks both, yes I’d done a search Mex and found Carleton.

Really sad to hear it’s in a bad way if it’s the same grave.

If I’m remembering correctly he was an only child and there’s a high chance his parents are now long dead themselves.

I’m up visiting family over the Christmas Nee year week. I might take a trip up to Carleton and see if it’s a mess and see what I can do to help it.

Yes I had the same thought about the possibility of him being an only child.

I worked in Bedfordshire with a guy who became a very good friend, Got a card from him & family yesterday.
He was in the Royal Signals in NI. He would never talk about his job there, said he wasn't allowed to, even now.
Don't know what his expertise was.

As we near Christmas, RIP Kevin & all those brave soldiers who've given their lives in service ✝️ We shall never forget.
To those who've survived - thank you for your service.
My uncle, who obviously I never met, was killed in WW1.
He had been in France 2 weeks and near the front line for 4 days.
Apparently shot by a sniper.
We have visited his grave in Northern France a few times.
The graveyards are beautifully kept.
