King Kenny

I agree that he had a good game but his free kicks and corners are woeful. Aimless floating balls into the box are so easy to defend. We had two really good opportunities at the end and both saw rubbish delivery.
Mostly agree, although he can get some right, like against PKE.

But the fact he's on freekicks etc tells it's own tale, he must be the best person for them, otherwise successive managers would have someone else taking them. The others must really be shite.

Fact is if some were any better they'd take them.

.........and he regularly evades challenges
I think the accolade “King” Kenny is just a bit OTT
'Good for League One but maybe a bit out of his depth at this level but still one of our better players just wish he was a bit better in some areas Kenny' doesn't roll off the tongue as well though

He had an excellent game, won possession lots of times, and created the chance for Carey in the first half when he got fouled. My only criticism is that there was an opportunity for him when he let Gabriel take over which he missed, at times he isn't greedy enough or maybe too nice. As for his free kicks, he was demanding movement from the players at the set piece, unfortunately, they all seem happy to gather together near the front post. The first free-kick really needed someone to take a chance and come in at that far post, which is something Ekpiteta used to do when he played. He was also running with the ball when a pass wasn't available which was causing them problems and should have got their player sent off. The main advantage Kenny has over the other midfielders is that he is two-footed, and when you watch Garbutt, Connolly, and even Patino they are all heavily one-footed.

I was hoping Connolly would have had a crack at the first free kick

King Kenny reminds me of Southern. We are better with him in there as long as he’s doing what he is good at, high energy pressuring. Making opposition flair players struggle to do their thing.

Don’t ask him to take set pieces. Surely our full backs or wingers can cross a ball? Don’t expect him to hit searching passes, give him a short pass to play. KS learnt that. Win it, give it Charlie or Vaughan

Not sure that King Kenny will be with us next season.
I think he's on his option year next season so will we exercise it and look for a fee or will we just let him go?
That decision should be down to who will be in charge next season and that's why we should be looking to have that person on a pre-contract agreement now.

I for one would be sorry to see him go. One of my favourite players and a great team man, not forgetting his two goals at Wembley!

What about Garbutt and his wand of a left foot?
I personally like the look Lyon's dead ball delivery.

Anyone watching Garbutt yesterday? Not having a go and he was played out of position, but he was just wandering around aimlessly not sure what to do.
We’d have been better having Gaz goals on up front supporting Jerry instead

When they're on yes, Lyons was for the late ones from Dougall but still it was KD to take, the manager must agree or it wouldn't be happening....

Makes me laugh that Dougall gets grief for his free kicks but the same people who slag him off don't say who else should be taking them because deep down they know that probably if they did mention another player to take them they would probably be just as shit at taking them as well.We only have Garbutt who's any good at delivering a decent set piece and that's another debate if he should be in the starting line up at all

That's the stick to beat him with but he shouldn't be on them
That's the managers call
You can only assume he’s a set piece master in training the way he’s constantly picked to take them.
Has he ever even scored one? He just wastes them time after time after time.
Plenty of times we have been undone by a set piece yet we never manage it.

Either that or they want him on free kicks because he can't contribute in any other way

I don't want to bash any of our own players, but for some perspective compared to all the loving, Kenny is a below average championship player. If he leaves us next season he will not be at a championship club, unless its a newly promoted one imo. Ignoring his diabolical set pieces, as he shouldn't be allowed to take them, he is a liability when facing our own goal as he has very limited awareness, poor technical skill and can't take the ball on the half turn. He often ambles back and we have conceded goals where he has not tracked back. He never shows for the ball off the defence, but some of that may be tactical. He does try and tackle but often gives aware fouls in dangerous areas, but I do accept that will occasionally happen, just slightly too often for my liking.

In summary, he effectively stands in the middle of the pitch, only wants the ball facing the opposition goal, sometimes hits a decent pass forward and often prefers to head the ball aimlessly instead of trying to control it and find a pass. If the aim is to clog the pitch and stop the opposition he will do ok, he just prevents us from building anything going forward through the centre of thr pitch and forces us to rely on dribbling to be creative elsewhere. He is not the only one by any stretch of the imagination, and its the reason we are likely to go down.

Connolly?

I'm just going to cut and paste this here again - last season Dougall was 15th in the championship for successful tackles per game, that's out of every player in every squad in the whole division. He completed almost double the amount tackles resulting in us regaining possession (61) than the next best in our squad (Ekpo 32) and was our top assister as well. For me though, it's his work out of possession that is his major strength. Against Burnley he was outstanding and I personally am in no doubt we would have lost the game without him.

Agree, but as we've seen, those on here aren't fond of experts giving data 😉

Could not agree more!

Put in a decent display yesterday. We are definitely IMO a better team with Kenny in than without.
Kenny is one of the best three midfielders on the books and by that reasoning should be playing. Are any of our midfield players Championship level? Some proved they were last season. Nobody has this year. Just a mixture of crocks and lightweights.
