Kyle Joseph

Being involved in a couple of big wins and feeling more a part of the team is a huge boost. Although it's only 20 / 25 mins, his confidence in his body(knee) will also be improving. Clearly not only a talented player but one who works puts a shift. I often thought with Jerry this was one of the main attributes that we loved about hit. I'm looking forward to seeing him continue to grow in our team.

His return from a long injury recovery and number of match minutes is obviously being carefully managed. He has played 10 then 22 and 24 minutes on Saturdays only. Not played Saturday Tuesday. No idea what the return timetable is but just based on how much he has featured so far I cannot see him getting much time Tuesday.

On Saturday, as those names above, plus O’Donnell, Gabriel, Thompson, Virtue , Oakley-Booth and Weir. Pool have strength in depth

I'd be even tempted to rest Dembele. Something might have to gamble at home to 'weak' opposition and I wouldn't blame Critchley for considering that. Perhaps Morgan, Carey and Dougall as a three.

I'd keep the front two the same and gradually get Joseph up to speed.

I'd keep Rhodes and Bees upfront tomorrow.

I'm excited to see what Joseph can do from the start but I think it makes sense to start him on Saturday personally.

I don't get why you'd rest our most creative player and key to how we play. He's not done a full 90 yet, he can be rested on Saturday.

You're literally asking for what caused us major issues? We don't need 3 central midfielders, they all get in each others way.

Only change I'd make is Joseph for Rhodes. Feel Rhodes hasn't looked as mobile last couple of weeks.
Give Joseph 60 mins and try and blow them away first half.

I just think because it's Northampton at home, we could take an educated risk. With Dembele we might win 7-0, without him, it might only be 3-0.

Norburn for Carey once back fit and Joseph for Beesley once fully fit and there you have our strongest XI (IMO)

We struggled to beat anybody without Dembele behind the front two. So unless there's another player that can link the midfield and attack like Dembele, dropping him significantly impacts the way we play.

My argument for having Norburn and Dougall together in place of Carey is the further licence that is grants Dembele to be roaming and creative.

Carey has really improved in recent games so it would seem harsh to drop him for Norburn, but Norburn provides far more defensive stability and calmness on the ball (whereas Sonny can be careless and erratic at times).

It'd also help us retain possession a lot more which has been a definite issue at times this season.

Happy with either, but my preference would be for Kenny and Norbs together. The partnership they were beginning to form pre Norburn's injury was very promising.

Completely disagree. Dembele covers a lot of ground. He tackles, covers back. Carey playing deeper is good for him, he has to do less box-to-box running, but can still arrive late into the box etc. But he's less of a "headless chicken" with Dembele in front of him, whilst still giving us an attacking threat and creativity that Norburn doesn't. And Dembele's pressing and harrassing gives Dougall and Carey space ant time to control the game.

The run of games coming up do not ask for a more defensive midfield, quite the opposite. Use Norburn to shore things up in the closing stages or give Kenny a rest.

We need the 7-0 to keep our goal difference good .
I entirely agree with the thoughts on Joseph, he looks to be the real deal and a young player. He looked really up for it at Portsmouth and freshens up the front attacking threat when he comes on. He could replace Rhodes tomorrow say for 60 mins, then bring Rhodes on. Beez was lucky with the goal deflection, but he was in the right place. Anyway, all looking very promising , confidence and belief must be good.

I'm more or less happy with either as I say but I'd still slightly favour Dougall and Norburn together for a bit more balance and fortitude

No way. I'd drop Rhodes to give his weary old legs a rest. He looks buggered.
Totally agree with this. I do a physical job and I'm getting on a bit, that bit of rest makes so much difference when you are getting older.
Much like Rhodes im as good as anyone on my day but 6 days a week and overtime too much for the old bones, starting on a Tuesday after a demanding game and a long trip should mean he starts on the bench.

Carey has started to play v well and playing him plus Dembele seems to be giving us the attacking impetus to take the game to the opposition.
