Kylian Kouassi

Tho
Watched the game on TV last week, just like 99% of people on here that have only seen him once. I go off his record in the league and its a good one. That's all any of us can really go off unless we're watching players week in and week out.
Those of us who were at the game don't seem to rate him too much. There is better out there for that kind of money imo.

Stats are largely irrelevant. If the lad has the attributes we’re missing (power and pace) as well as a great engine and work ethic then he’ll be a welcome addition to the squad. Especially at just 20.

At the end of the day, Critchley must see something in him. I'll back anyone that wears the shirt as long as they try their hardest. If he does come here, then I hope he smashes it.
I think the concern here is that if he does come here, then that’s Critch saying we’ve got another striker in to challenge.

If this is his answer, then we can’t wait to see if he’ll come good. We need players in who can actually score on a regular basis.
Lavery creating a chance out of nothing, and Beesley tapping in from an open goal is not the expected outcome!
The tactics need to change, however surely getting someone with a proven track record would mean that they would be worth a lot more in resale value, plus they might also create goals out of nothing.
That seems to be the Critch way atm.
Fans are just v concerned, and I’m one.

He's clearly one for the future and will play more mins in the Development squad than the first team for the foreseeable.
From that perspective he's exactly the kind of player we should be chasing,
Low risk due to relatively low cost, but with potential to kick on with the right coaching and at his age a potentially high ceiling and a decent resale opportunity as well.
Given the club's MO is to sign young, hungry players relatively cheaply, develop them and sell on, then reinvest I think it's fair to say we can expect several of this ilk.
He will not play for the dvt squad and will be in the first team squad.

I agree with all this right now. Im hoping he's one that's either for the development squad or goes right back out kn loan. All I'm saying is that I will get behind him regardless. Its not his fault our recruitment seems all over the place right now.

He won’t take up a squad place. Given our injury crisis last season I think it is probably a good idea to have three or four who can be available for selection in addition to the 22 on the squad list.
We need a solid 22 on that list by the end of the window though.

How many players have we signed for the development squad that have gone on to play for the 1st team ?

Im struggling to think of any.

Good question, what happened to the lad from Celtic that we signed. He was meant to only be a season or so away from first team football but he seems to have been forgotten about.

Mentioned this on the main transfer thread but Kouassi has been on trial with us for ages, I can't understand if he was that impressive why its took us so long? Same thoughts around Tashan Oakley Boothe tbh.

That's not me saying that they aren't decent for clarity. I just don't understand why we didn't get them signed up sooner if we knew we wanted them?

Owen Moffat. Not sure if he’s still with us or not. Either way possibly not as good as they thought he was?

Kouassi turned down a contract offer at Sutton, so, because of his age, they were still entitled to a fee for him and the club presumably wanted to negotiate that rather than go to a tribunal.

TOB, the first mention of him was exactly a month ago, there were questions about his attitude at Lincoln last year, so presumably the club wanted a good look at him first.

He wouldn't take a place. Too young.

I’m hoping this is true. Have been chatting to a Sutton fan in our Chiswick office today and whilst they admit the lad is raw they say he has a real tenacity and tirelessness to him. Also very very strong on the ball and a nice first touch. A bit surprised Blackpool are in for him as they reckon he’s yet to prove himself just yet.

Sounds to be a little like when QPR took Bright Samuel off of us. It seemed a bit premature but he flourished with the step up.

That’s great if he is one for the future. People are concerned, understandably, that he’s todays answer. We desperately need a proper striker.

Still a week left I suppose.

I suppose it’s a bit of a gamble. Imagine if we hold off and the lad scored 8/9 goals between now and January - instead of £200k there’d be much bigger clubs happily paying £700k. I think it’s a risk worth taking. Not too many players at 19/20 have nearly 40 league appearances. And surrounded by better players and with better coaches he could flourish

I haven't seen him of late and I'm not sure I've ever seen more than a short cameo from him but I've read that he's struggled to make any great impact overall and apparently wants out to play senior football at a lower level, I think Scottish third tier was mentioned. He (or someone who thinks for him) thinks that will develop him more than development football.

That's interesting.

We need someone to fight for the ball and keep the ball back to goal.

I'm not convinced they have to score many, just be a handful and good enough to lay off to others who get forward (and obviously Lavs)

It's obviously not a wow signing but when people say shit like 'get a Madine replacement who can run and finish' then yr looking at £15m+ players if they seriously mean someone as strong and adept at link work as Madine but with raw pace and Jerry's finishing prowess.

The lad looked absolutely huge (i.e. like tank) when he warmed up with squad at Barrow. It's a different option to what we have at very least,

Noticed he came on as a sub for Fenerbahce tonight and got an assist in a 5-1 win over Twente Enschede. Team mates included Fred, Dzeko, Batshuayi, Tadic. And a bunch of Turks!

He's on the verge of a loan move back to Scotland, let's be honest if he was good enough Dobbie would have given him a chance when he was running things
